    Chapter 51

Bai Zhi and Xie Yuzhan stared at each other in silence. Neither spoke.

It was Meng Tong across from them who sensed the strange atmosphere and proactively broke the silence, asking, “Who is this? I saw him hugging you earlier; he seems very concerned about you. Is he your boyfriend?”

Boyfriend? Bai Zhi was still dazed, but Xie Yuzhan’s eyes suddenly lit up.

This had absolutely nothing to do with being gloomy or profound.

Bai Zhi had a slightly ominous premonition…

Xie Yuzhan naturally took the somewhat heavy gold trophy from Bai Zhi’s hand, pulled him closer into his embrace, and said with a curve of his lips that displayed his pleasure, “Not a boyfriend, a husband.”

    Whoa!

Bai Zhi raised an eyebrow. He felt like he was seeing a peacock’s tail—gorgeous, colorful, and highly ostentatious!

Meng Tong’s gaze swept back and forth between the two people before him. He realized they had been chatting too enthusiastically, and then there was that hug.

This person was probably very possessive.

He chuckled knowingly. “So you’re already married! My mistake. You two are a very handsome couple, and your relationship is clearly strong. Winning an award today is definitely worth celebrating. I won’t stand here being a third wheel. We can chat on WeChat later. Bye-bye.”

Bai Zhi said goodbye. Only after Meng Tong left did Xie Yuzhan slowly release his arm. Bai Zhi stared blankly at Mr. Wolf for a while before finally realizing what had happened.

    He was jealous!

He smiled, pressing himself close to Xie Yuzhan’s arm. “Meng Tong and I really hit it off when talking about cooking, but he doesn’t affect us at all. Brother Yuzhan is the best of the best!”

As he spoke, he lightly hooked Xie Yuzhan’s free hand and swung it, the smile in his eyes bright and cheerful.

Xie Yuzhan looked at the exceptionally well-behaved and sweet-talking Bai Zhi and sighed silently. The other party was indeed very sensitive to emotions, and the feedback he gave accurately hit the sweet spot in his heart.

It was delightful to hear, and one hundred percent satisfying.

He rubbed Bai Zhi’s palm and led him outside. “Meng Tong is right; today is absolutely worth celebrating. Aunt Lin has everything ready. Let’s go home.”

    “Okay!”

Bai Zhi looked at Xie Yuzhan, who was deliberately slowing his pace, and then down at his own bunny flip-flops. The light flowing in his eyes was brilliant and bright.

He truly hadn’t seen the other man care about anyone this much before.

Given Bai Zhi’s foot injury, Xie Yuzhan decided to hold the celebration in the second-floor lounge area, very close to his bedroom.

Bai Zhi didn’t let him carry him or help him walk. He hopped up to the second floor and gasped softly when he saw the spread on the table. It was late; was supper really this lavish?

Besides cookies and cake, there were also fruit platters and barbecue!

He touched a plate; everything was still warm, very thoughtful.

He picked up a glass of sweet white wine and took a small sip. The fruit aroma was rich and fragrant, and the taste was quite good, even for a novice like him who didn’t drink much.

He looked at Xie Yuzhan and smiled, asking, “It’s delicious, but didn’t you dislike me drinking? What made you decide to prepare this?”

Xie Yuzhan swirled the wine, which was too sweet for him. “An occasional exception is fine. Besides, we are at home today, not in some messy public place outside.”

Bai Zhi nodded, taking a bite of a cookie. “Although I still don’t think a quiet bar is a ‘messy public place’ like you described, regardless—

“Thank you for everything this time.”

He wiggled his toes, his heart softer than the fluffiest rabbit fur, and continued, “You are clearly very busy, yet you were willing to accompany me the whole time, prepare these adorable and perfect slippers for me, and look after me everywhere…

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.”

Xie Yuzhan was being watched so intently and seriously by Bai Zhi’s shimmering eyes, and the words the other party spoke were full of recognition and gratitude. Well—the slight displeasure caused by his jealousy completely vanished.

Even the overly sweet wine tasted good.

He chuckled softly. “It’s all what I should do. Don’t mention it.”

Bai Zhi shook his head. There was no such thing as “should.” The fact that the other person was willing to be kind to him was a favor, and he couldn’t just accept it with a clear conscience without showing any appreciation. He needed to thank him properly.

As for how to thank him, he needed to think about that.

The two ate and chatted, and before they knew it, it was eleven o’clock. He really liked the sweet white wine and had quite a bit of it.

After finishing the last bite of cake, he slumped contentedly into the sofa, his voice carrying a lazy drawl. “I’ve been waking up early lately. Tomorrow, I’m sleeping in~”

Xie Yuzhan replied, “You should rest properly. You worked hard.”

Even though the experience was the main focus, a competition was still mentally exhausting.

Bai Zhi answered with a soft, muffled sound, then stood up, stretched, and yawned. He rubbed his slightly sore eyes. “Should we call it a night? Let’s go back to our rooms, shower, and sleep.”

Xie Yuzhan looked at Bai Zhi’s slightly flushed cheeks. He was clearly drowsy. Xie Yuzhan confirmed, “You want to shower?”

“Mhm! I only wiped down last night. I definitely need a nice soak today. It’s so comfortable.”

    “That won’t work.”

Xie Yuzhan stood up and took a step closer to Bai Zhi, explaining and coaxing. “The wound on your foot cannot touch water; it’s prone to infection. You need to bear with it until the blisters flatten and scab over before you can bathe.”

Bai Zhi blinked. Perhaps the low-alcohol content was still affecting his brain, as the words that slipped out didn’t pass through his mental filter.

He poked Xie Yuzhan’s chest and chuckled vaguely. “That doesn’t sound like something the germaphobic CEO Xie would say, oh~”

Xie Yuzhan’s breathing hitched. Bai Zhi’s eyes and cheeks were slightly flushed from the alcohol, and his eyes were somewhat hazy. He was clearly a little drunk.

This gave Xie Yuzhan a new understanding of the man’s alcohol tolerance limit.

He gripped Bai Zhi’s wrist and sighed slightly, cautioning himself not to kiss him right now. What if he scared him away?

He lowered his voice and coaxed, “Special circumstances require special handling. There is no habitual routine that cannot be broken. If it hasn’t been broken yet, it’s only because the person capable of breaking it hasn’t appeared.

“Alright, Zhi Zhi, be good. Let’s just wipe down simply today. If we’re lucky, it will scab over tomorrow.”

Bai Zhi frowned, his stubbornness kicking in. He insisted, “I want to wash today. I’ll wash whether you agree or not. If you have the guts, you can watch me all night.”

Hearing this, Xie Yuzhan tightened his grip on Bai Zhi’s wrist. He truly did have the guts, but it was unnecessary.

He thought for a moment and said, “If you absolutely must wash, you can take a bath, and I will help you. Is that acceptable? Don’t let the scalded area get wet; it’s not worth the risk.”

Bai Zhi stared at Xie Yuzhan for a while. His brain, soaked in alcohol for half a day, didn’t detect any danger. Since he was going to express his gratitude anyway, helping him bathe tonight wouldn’t hurt.

He lifted his foot and walked toward the bedroom, his voice light and airy. “Then I’ll trouble Brother Yuzhan to be a good person all the way through!”

Xie Yuzhan looked at Bai Zhi’s fluffy, messy back of the head. Was what followed likely going to be trouble?

The kind of trouble that was agonizing yet sweet.

Once in the bathroom, he squeezed toothpaste onto a toothbrush and handed it to Bai Zhi, turned on the bathtub faucet to run hot water, and took out a bubble bath bomb, intending to drop it in later. This way, it wouldn’t be a bathtub of completely exposed clear water.

For now, temporarily, it was better to observe propriety.

When he returned after fetching Bai Zhi’s Pikachu pajamas, he only saw a pile of messy clothes on the floor. Looking toward the bathtub, a small, brown head was sticking out.

He wasn’t completely drunk; he knew to toss the bath bomb into the tub and rest his bandaged foot on the edge of the tub.

Xie Yuzhan checked, confirming the gauze hadn’t gotten wet, then sat on the edge of the tub, looking at the person leaning back inside. His gaze deepened slightly.

Bai Zhi’s eyes were half-closed. The warm bathroom light reflected in the pool of honey, like stars wandering gracefully in the Milky Way—brilliant and lively.

His eyes and cheeks were already slightly red from drinking, and the steam from the hot water intensified the flush to a vibrant, watery red. And those slightly parted lips, more tempting than ripe fruit on a tree—

They made one want to pluck them and taste their flavor.

His gaze shifted down to Bai Zhi’s slender, pale neck. The Adam’s apple was small and delicate, curving in a round, lovely arc like a cherry. If one were to bite it, what kind of pleasant and sweet gasp would the other person make?

Further down was the hollow of his collarbone, holding a pool of shimmering water. Even the precious, beautiful springs in the desert couldn’t compare to such charm. The lines of his collarbone extended outward, smooth and graceful, like the arc of a mountain sparrow’s wings when it takes flight, as if a handsome little bird might fly out in the blink of an eye.

    And further down?

That was where the slightly rainbow-colored bubbles were. They were dense and continuous, completely covering the water surface, making it impossible to glimpse anything beneath.

This brought a certain disappointment, yet also a sigh of relief.

He subtly composed himself, curving his lips. The Creator was truly biased, giving Bai Zhi such outstanding looks and such a pure, clean soul, resulting in the unique person before him.

After a moment, he leaned closer to the hazy Bai Zhi, his voice slightly hoarse. He whispered, “Zhi Zhi, you were a little biased just now. A good person all the way through? No, I am not a good person. I haven’t been, from the beginning.”

Bai Zhi took a moment to process this. His low-speed brain slowly began to understand what the sentence meant.

He nodded, trying hard to open his sleepy eyes, and said slowly but very seriously, “Good and bad are relative. Xie Minghong definitely thinks you are not a good person, but your friends, Aunt Lin, Uncle Zheng, and your grandparents definitely believe you are a good person.”

“And you? Do you truly think I am?”

Bai Zhi thought about it, frowning slightly, and continued, “Sometimes I think you are very dangerous, and you really don’t seem like a good person. You’d eat the bunny without a second thought—ruthless and cruel. But sometimes… I think you are a good wolf.”

Xie Yuzhan chuckled softly. A single ‘good person’ card wouldn’t satisfy him.

His voice grew even more husky, and he gently led the conversation. “Since we’ve brought it up, let’s make a bold assumption, baby—

“If there comes a day when you can completely trust me, can I eat the bunny?

“I will be very gentle, very gentle.”

In vino veritas. It would be a shame to miss an opportunity delivered right to his hand. It was just an assumption. Bai Zhi usually spoke frankly, and now Xie Yuzhan wanted a direct answer—yes or no—to soothe or suppress the desires that grew stronger each day.

    He wanted possession.

    He wanted more touch.
