    Chapter 47

Outside the window, the sky had cleared after the snow, and the cold, white sunlight streaming into the warm, spring-like room was tinged with a bit of warmth.

Xie Yuzhan gazed at Bai Zhi. The person before him was breathing softly, and they were close enough that he could see his tiny reflection in the other’s eyes. These eyes, catching the sunlight and the snow’s reflection, shone brightly, like flowing honey.

    Radiant and lustrous.

The corners of his lips had initially curved into a slight downturn, but under the frank gaze of those eyes, they slowly curled back up.

After a long moment, he sighed softly and gave the still-dazed person a kiss on the eyes. The other’s eyelashes brushed against his lips, soft and carrying a noticeable tingling sensation.

It quenched the thirst and itch in his heart.

The red apple was certainly tempting, but it wasn’t time to pick it yet. The more delicious the fruit, the more patience was required, and coincidentally, patience was the one thing he didn’t lack.

He rubbed Bai Zhi’s messy, sleep-tousled hair with a little force. “Get up, lazy bunny. Didn’t we say we were going to build a snowman?”

Bai Zhi rubbed against the pillow, mumbled a few sounds, and closed his eyes again. Perhaps it was Xie Yuzhan’s overly gentle expression, or maybe he was still groggy from sleeping in the snow, or perhaps it was the instinct of a small animal acting up.

He hugged the arm of the person beside him, rolled over, and mumbled softly, “Pat-pat, pat my back too…”

It would be best if the patting went all the way from his head, down his spine, to the base of his tail.

In the warm, cozy bed, his sleep-addled brain absolutely refused to work right now. All he wanted was this—pat-pat~

Xie Yuzhan watched the large expanse of fair shoulder Bai Zhi exposed from rolling over. The smooth curve of the collarbone was delicate and beautiful. He sighed in resignation.

The other person truly resembled a cute, fluffy creature, just like a small animal.

Was this perhaps some deity rewarding him for not seizing the red apple too early?

    Who cared.

In any case, he didn’t want to refuse this invitation. Even if pleasure and restraint coexisted, and satisfaction and torment were intertwined, it was worth it.

Drinking poison to quench thirst, yet finding it sweet.

He rubbed Bai Zhi’s hair and continued down the back, tracing the spine all the way to the tailbone. Even through the pajamas, he could clearly feel the tight, smooth curve of the other’s back, more beautiful than the arc of a crescent moon.

It made him reluctant to let go.

Bai Zhi squinted his eyes, feeling lazy and sleepy, yet being thoroughly rubbed and patted like this. He stretched contentedly, feeling every strand of hair relax.

He snuggled even closer into the palm of the person beside him.

Xie Yuzhan looked at the section of Bai Zhi’s waist exposed by the stretching motion. The young man’s skin was delicate and resilient, white as silver, with a thin layer of muscle that was very attractive, especially the inward curve of the side waist…

It inevitably led to certain thoughts.

His hand paused. He should stop here; he couldn’t continue.

He gently rubbed Bai Zhi’s side, causing the other to shiver and let out a soft hum, yet he didn’t pull away. He truly looked like a satisfied little rabbit.

The qualities of cuteness and seductiveness were not contradictory; in this person, they were blended with exquisite skill.

He pulled Bai Zhi’s shirt down, adjusted the messy collar, tucked in the blanket, and finally kissed the forehead of the person who was drifting back to sleep.

    Let him sleep in, then.

Bai Zhi curled up in the fluffy, soft, and warm bed, sleeping soundly until the sun was high in the sky before slowly waking up.

He sat up sluggishly, holding Pikachu, and stared blankly for a long time. As his consciousness gradually returned, he clearly recalled everything that had happened when he was fooling around with Xie Yuzhan.

He covered his face with both hands, rubbing and rubbing again. He was doomed.

How could he have done that?!

What kind of foolish rabbit delivers itself right into the claws of its natural predator! It was a good thing Mr. Wolf still needed him, otherwise…

He couldn’t think about it anymore. He shivered, threw off the blanket, and jumped out of bed. After washing up, he changed into a fluffy sweater. Winter was perfect for all sorts of soft fluff!

He ambled downstairs. It was almost noon, so he hadn’t missed lunchtime.

    However.

Lin Haiyan asked him if he wanted to eat lunch now or wait and eat with Xie Yuzhan.

He asked what CEO Xie was doing, and Aunt Lin said he could go to the backyard and see for himself.

Naturally, he chose to eat lunch with Xie Yuzhan. Lin Haiyan handed him a soft European-style bread and a glass of milk. He chewed happily on the soft, sweet, and fragrant taro paste, salted egg yolk, and pork floss bread, enjoying it thoroughly with the milk.

When he wandered to the backyard and saw the figure through the glass door, he forgot to chew his bread and swallowed it whole, choking. He quickly drank several large gulps of milk to clear his throat.

Was he still dreaming? Why was Xie Yuzhan building a snowman?! And it was almost finished.

This, this seemed so unlike something the other person would do!

CEO Xie, busy building the snowman, didn’t even notice him. Bai Zhi quietly stood by the door, eating his bread and staring intently.

The entire backyard was a blanket of white, covered in frosting, turning the world into a giant cake. Sunlight poured down like honey, scattering soft, translucent golden light across the snow, like fine gold leaf.

Xie Yuzhan stood in the sunlight, which was even brighter after the snow, more eye-catching than the winter sun.

    His entire being was radiant.

After finishing his bread, he thought for a moment and turned to go upstairs. When he returned carrying a pile of things, Xie Yuzhan had just finished shaping the snowman.

He pulled open the door and walked over, raising his voice with a laugh. “Why did you decide to build a snowman alone? You didn’t even wait for me!”

Xie Yuzhan took off his gloves and adjusted the collar of Bai Zhi’s coat, bundling him up so he wouldn’t catch a cold.

His tone was normal. “A certain lazy bunny insisted on sleeping in and is very good at acting spoiled. I truly had no choice, so… this is just to calm down. There’s enough snow; if you want to build one after lunch, you can.”

Bai Zhi was momentarily confused. Calm down?

Why did he need to calm down?

He asked, “Are you mad that I slept in?”

“No, don’t overthink it.” Xie Yuzhan took the items from Bai Zhi’s arms—scarves, hats, carrots, and other vegetables, clearly meant for decorating the snowman.

He continued, “Do you want to finish the rest?”

Since Xie Yuzhan explicitly said no, Bai Zhi didn’t press the issue. It was fine as long as he wasn’t angry. Perhaps the reserved CEO Xie also wanted to play in the snow and just made up some excuse.

He nodded. “Okay, I’ll do it!”

He examined the snowman closely. It reached his shoulder, and the surface was smoothly shaped, typical of something made by the perfectionist CEO Xie—very meticulous.

As he decorated the snowman, he praised, “This snow sphere is so well made. If I did it, it wouldn’t be this detailed.”

Xie Yuzhan handed things to Bai Zhi. Being praised always lifted his mood. He said, “The most important thing about building a snowman is having fun; everything else is secondary. Even if it’s a bit rough, it’s still worthwhile.”

Bai Zhi nodded. That was true.

After finishing the decorations, he put his hands on his hips, looking satisfied from every angle. He lightly nudged Xie Yuzhan’s arm and smiled. “This counts as something we made together!”

Xie Yuzhan looked at the snowman with its bright smile and replied, “Of course. Decorating is a very important step.”

Bai Zhi couldn’t help but chuckle. CEO Xie was quite the smooth talker!

He brought over the snow rabbit he had made last night and placed it on top of the snowman’s hat, taking a picture for posterity.

He looked at the snowman, the snow rabbit, and then at Xie Yuzhan beside him. Although the air was cold, stinging his nasal passages with every breath, his heart felt full and expansive, as if stuffed with soft clouds and cotton candy.

    Sweet and delightful.

When Xie Yuzhan looked over, he shook his phone. “I will always remember this day.”

Even if they were natural enemies, the happiness of this moment was genuine.

Xie Yuzhan put an arm around Bai Zhi’s shoulder as they walked back. He replied, “Then you might have quite a few days to remember.”

Bai Zhi tilted his head. “That’s okay! My memory is pretty good. I can remember as many happy days as there are!”

Xie Yuzhan smiled without speaking. Today? Today was just a tiny pearl in the vast ocean of memories. What Bai Zhi didn’t have before at the Bai family, he would receive more of, and better, in the future.

After lunch, the well-rested Bai Zhi didn’t take a nap. He only posted a notice on the shop’s live stream saying, “The shopkeeper went to play in the snow,” and then dashed off to the backyard.

Beside the snowman, he built a three-dimensional rabbit, half a meter tall, and put a scarf on it too.

Only then did he feel completely satisfied.

The only downside was that the snowman and snow rabbit couldn’t last long. They would slowly melt away in a few days, which was a little disappointing.

    But!

Xie Yuzhan gave him three small felted wool ornaments: two snow rabbits and one snowman, identical to the ones they had built with snow! They were custom-made based on the photos, so they could be kept forever.

    It was very thoughtful.

He was so happy that he couldn’t resist giving Xie Yuzhan a big hug and a huge kiss on the cheek. Only after the kiss did he realize he might have gotten a bit carried away with happiness, but CEO Xie was good-natured and only asked where he planned to put the ornaments.

On the bedside table, of course!

Things he liked should be right where he could see them.

By the time he snapped out of the excitement of the heavy snow, the atmosphere of the Spring Festival was already very strong.

Lin Haiyan said that since the family had a new member this year, she wanted to decorate a little and make it lively. After Xie Yuzhan gave his tacit approval, Bai Zhi spent two days helping Aunt Lin and Uncle Zheng with the decorations. Seeing the slightly surprised expression on CEO Xie’s face when he walked in made it all worthwhile!

He didn’t have any particular attachment or expectations for the Spring Festival, but he was happy to experience what humanity’s most important holiday was like.

It was an experience, after all.

Although he had agreed with Xie Yuzhan that they would go their separate ways on New Year’s Eve, he actually didn’t plan to go back to the Bai family—he wasn’t going to seek out unhappiness. So, he had dinner with Bai Enyan two days early, counting it as an early New Year’s Eve.

Xie Yuzhan invited him to spend New Year’s Eve at his grandparents’ house, but since he was already going there on New Year’s Day, he declined. Spending the night with Aunt Lin and Uncle Zheng was also nice.

In terms of emotional closeness, he was closer to the two people at home.

Xie Yuzhan didn’t insist, only reminding him not to eat too many snacks after dinner. He readily agreed. He wasn’t a child anymore; there was no need for such detailed instructions.

However, the way things unfolded made him feel like he had spoken too soon.

The Spring Festival was the holiday most associated with reunion. Who did he want to be with the most?

After the New Year’s Eve dinner, he watched the Spring Festival Gala with Lin Haiyan and Zheng Feng for a while before they dispersed. He wanted to give the couple some time alone; he didn’t want to be a blinding third wheel.

Back in his room, he turned on the TV to continue watching the Gala.

Although netizens complained it was boring, everything was new to a little rabbit who had never experienced the Spring Festival or watched the Gala. Most of the programs were still watchable.

But as he watched, his attention was drawn by the sounds of fireworks, near and far, outside the window. Lively and noisy, the thought of them alone suggested something grand and dazzling. The Gala programs suddenly became very dull.

He wanted to see the fireworks.

But the sound of fireworks was too loud and unfriendly to a little rabbit.

He stood in front of the glass sliding door, hesitating for a moment. Ultimately, the desire to see the fireworks from a more open vantage point overcame his unease about the noise.

He put on a coat and pulled the door open. The noise immediately increased severalfold, like tiny hammers pounding his eardrums.

He frowned slightly and walked onto the balcony. The closer it got to midnight, the clearer and louder the sounds of fireworks and firecrackers became, as if they were trying to blast the dark night into bright daylight.

He covered his ears, gazing at the night sky in the distance.

It was loud, but the fireworks were indeed beautiful.

Vibrant colors splattered across the dark canvas like paint, blooming into one magnificent flower after another. Though brief, the moment of their blossoming was eternal.

He watched quietly. For some reason, he suddenly thought of Xie Yuzhan, who was far away at his grandparents’ house. He was probably chatting and staying up late with his elders right now.

Those were the family members he was truly meant to be reunited with.

He was just an insignificant little rabbit, a fake lover based on an exchange of benefits.

Standing outside, thinking this, he felt increasingly cold all over. He slowly lowered his hands from his ears. The noise rushed in, making his head feel a little fuzzy. And the next second—

A pair of hands covered his ears.

Warm, dry, and firmly placed, they blocked out the deafening explosions.

His eyes suddenly trembled, his throat tightened, and his vision immediately blurred…
