    Chapter 35

Bai Zhi didn’t think much about it, nodding and saying, “It’s just a small wish. Of course, I can fulfill it for Brother Yuzhan. Tell me.”

As they spoke, they reached the car. Xie Yuzhan opened the passenger door for Bai Zhi and chuckled, “After the compensation money arrives, Zhizhi, bring me lunch one day. You can also take a look at the Xie Corporation.

“But you have to come up from the ground floor lobby.”

Bai Zhi was slightly surprised. Bring lunch? To the Xie Corporation? And start from the ground floor?

He got into the car, watched Xie Yuzhan close the door, walk around the front, and settle into the driver’s seat. He felt like he understood a little—coming through the ground floor meant letting everyone know that their relationship was very good, good enough for him to deliver lunch.

Showing affection, the little bunny understood.

He pulled out a small biscuit and replied seriously, “How about this: I’ll make the lunch myself and bring it over to you.”

Making it himself would show more sincerity in his gratitude.

Xie Yuzhan looked at the little bunny who was voluntarily raising the stakes, a hint of pleased amusement in the corner of his eye. This little bit of secret crush thinking was easy to understand; given the opportunity, one naturally wanted to get closer to him and do more.

His voice held a suppressed laugh as he said, “Then I look forward to Zhizhi’s cooking.”

    “Mhm, mhm.”

A few days later, Bai Enfan transferred the compensation payment. It wasn’t a large amount, but the symbolic significance was necessary. This whole incident subsided following the public release of the evidence, and it even brought a large wave of traffic to the online store.

It was a blessing in disguise.

With the matter concluded, Bai Zhi prepared to fulfill the small wish Xie Yuzhan had mentioned. CEO Xie had learned to phrase things so nicely and interestingly when asking for his cooperation now.

Of course, no problem. It was the little bunny’s duty.

After breakfast and seeing Xie Yuzhan off, he dove into the kitchen to get busy. After setting the soup to simmer, he started prepping the other dishes, spinning around like a little top, but thoroughly enjoying himself.

As usual, Zheng Feng drove him out. When the car stopped outside the ground floor lobby of the Xie Corporation, he looked at the employees coming and going, took a slow, deep breath, and stepped out!

He had contacted Xie Yuzhan earlier, who said his assistant would be waiting downstairs.

The moment he got out of the car, he felt the overt and covert scrutinizing gazes, but it didn’t matter. Let them look. If no one paid attention to him, wouldn’t he have come here for nothing today?

Spotting a sharp, capable-looking woman approaching, he quickly realized this was Xie Yuzhan’s assistant, Yu Fei—the same type as his second sister. He admired that kind of temperament.

He greeted her in a friendly and polite manner, not letting Yu Fei take the larger food container, but handing over the one holding the small stew pots. “Just take this one, thank you.”

Yu Fei subtly assessed Bai Zhi from head to toe. He was clearly a refined and polite little gentleman.

He wore a fluffy, soft, light-blue oversized sweater paired with off-white casual pants and small white leather shoes, topped with a small Pikachu-shaped backpack. He looked fresh and adorable.

Even his caramel-brown hair, gleaming in the sunlight, was perfectly styled without a single flaw.

Like a small sea salt cheesecake.

Thinking this, she quickly collected her thoughts and led Bai Zhi inside. “It’s rush hour for lunch. We’ll take the VIP elevator up.”

Bai Zhi nodded obediently, noticing Yu Fei’s glance at his backpack. He slightly turned and shook the small charm hanging from it, saying, “Isn’t the bag charm cute? Yuzhan gave it to me. I really like it.”

Yu Fei was usually serious and rarely smiled, but this time she genuinely couldn’t hold back a small laugh. Bai Zhi’s earnest explanation was truly well-behaved and adorable, very sincere, and made her feel favorably toward him.

She agreed, “It is very cute.”

After only a few minutes together, she was already starting to understand why Xie Yuzhan was so attentive to this little prince from his family.

    Yes, a little prince.

His eyes were clean and pure, like a precious little prince raised in a castle, yet, strangely, he also possessed the vigorous vitality of the wilderness—lively and fresh.

When these two qualities combined, being captivated was only natural.

She believed that before the end of the lunch break, everyone in the entire corporation would know that CEO Xie’s partner, who had never shown his face, came to deliver lunch to his husband today.

Who wouldn’t want to keep such an adorable little prince hidden away?

Leading him into CEO Xie’s office, she discreetly retreated, minding her own business. She wouldn’t interrupt the young couple’s moment of affection.

Bai Zhi carefully took out the lunch items and arranged them. When Xie Yuzhan walked over, he unfolded a wet wipe and handed it to him, saying, “This building is so tall. It’s my first time being this high up. Looking out, you can see a completely different view.”

Xie Yuzhan wiped his hands, his gaze on Bai Zhi gentle and calm. “How does the view from high up look?”

Bai Zhi looked out the floor-to-ceiling window again. “It’s a bit cold. If the sun wasn’t out today, it would feel even colder and sterile. It feels a bit suffocating, very oppressive.

“I still prefer the lawn at home, and the sunroom.”

Xie Yuzhan sat down and placed one of the small stew pots next to Bai Zhi’s hand. “The two floors above this are the offices of the Xie Corporation’s President and Chairman.

“Zhizhi, next year, when this office building returns to its rightful owner, I’ll give you the entire top floor. We can build a sky garden. Would you like to see it?

“Allowing the cold steel and concrete to breathe freely.”

Bai Zhi imagined it and smiled. “That sounds interesting. If you’re willing, I can give the designer some suggestions!”

“No problem, you call the shots. You have more authority than I do regarding greenery. You’ll definitely give the designer great ideas.”

Bai Zhi chuckled. “You trust me that much?”

    “Of course.”

Bai Zhi softly hummed, feeling a little proud and happy. The feeling of being trusted was wonderful, especially when the person saying it was so capable himself.

The two ate and chatted, and the mealtime passed quickly.

Putting down his chopsticks, Xie Yuzhan praised, “This seaweed tofu tastes excellent. I’ve had it at restaurants before, but it’s nowhere near as good as yours.”

Bai Zhi curved his eyes, eating the last red bean roll. “I just learned that one! As long as it tastes good!”

Who doesn’t like to be praised?

Lin Haiyan had already praised it, but what Xie Yuzhan said sounded different. He couldn’t figure out why, nor did he want to explore it. Perhaps it was just because of the other man’s unique voice and intonation.

They chatted for a while longer. Yu Fei came in holding several folders, saying there was work that needed attention, so Bai Zhi said goodbye, planning to leave first.

He followed Assistant Yu out, but paused at the doorway and turned back to look.

Xie Yuzhan was reviewing documents, his eyes slightly lowered, the gold-rimmed glasses reflecting a faint cold light. The entire person looked… how to describe it? There was one human word that perfectly suited the feeling he gave off right now:

    Charisma.

Extremely charismatic, making it impossible to look away, very reliable, and pleasing to the eye.

He asked Yu Fei to wait, then quickly jogged to the inner side of the desk, meeting the gaze of Xie Yuzhan, who had looked up upon sensing the movement.

He leaned in close, whispering softly into the other man’s ear, “Brother looks very handsome when he’s working seriously! I’m leaving now. I’ll wait for you to get off work so we can have dinner together!”

Having said that, he straightened up and ran.

He couldn’t always let the other person tease him!

    But he didn’t get away.

Xie Yuzhan quickly grasped Bai Zhi’s hand. As the other man looked over with flickering eyes, the corner of his lips curved into a slight smile, his lowered voice steeped in amusement. “Be good, Zhizhi. How about I buy you a small cake after I get off work?”

Bai Zhi pursed his lips and nodded. Xie Yuzhan’s voice was exactly what voice fetishists loved—a husky sound that drilled straight into the little bunny’s heart, making his cheeks suddenly feel hot.

His eyes darted around, and he only managed a brief, “Mhm, I’ll wait for you.”

    “Good.”

Xie Yuzhan released his hand, watching Bai Zhi’s retreating figure, and couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. Little mischief-maker. If the timing wasn’t inappropriate and the situation didn’t allow it, he wouldn’t have let go after just holding his hand.

    Just a little longer.

Outside the office, Bai Zhi’s face was still flushing intermittently. Hearing Yu Fei ask if he was feeling unwell, he shook his head vaguely, changing the subject. “How does Yuzhan usually get along with everyone?”

Since he was here, it would be a shame not to gather some information.

Yu Fei didn’t press the matter, her tone filled with relief. “CEO Xie treats people very thoughtfully, and his work ability is outstanding. There’s no project he can’t handle. With him around, no matter how difficult the task, everyone avoids feeling intimidated.

“He is our anchor, our backbone.

“Everyone recognizes him, admires him, and trusts him. Following him, we know we won’t go wrong.”

Bai Zhi nodded. His cheap husband was excellent. He could tell that Yu Fei wasn’t just humoring him but speaking from the heart.

It was deep respect and admiration.

Yu Fei paused for a moment, then continued, “However, CEO Xie maintains a certain distance from most people and things. Aside from his two close friends, he hasn’t been intimate with anyone. But now there’s an exception.

“Besides his friends and everyone else, he has a third standard for interacting with people.”

Bai Zhi asked curiously, “What third standard?”

Yu Fei recalled the scene just before leaving the office. The feeling was sweeter than chewing a handful of candy—she had gotten her dose of sweetness! This was the frontline benefit of being the CEO’s assistant.

She glanced at Bai Zhi, suppressing her smile, and said, “CEO Xie treats you differently than he treats anyone else.”

Treats him? Bai Zhi tilted his head. A unique standard just for him?

    It seemed to be true?

Perhaps because he was his cohabitant, he showed him some care? It must be that way. In the eyes of others, it might appear as Yu Fei described, which also proved their act was very successful.

He composed himself and followed up, “We are legally married partners, after all. How could he treat me the same as everyone else? I am unique!”

    A unique marriage partner.

Yu Fei’s smile was almost uncontrollable. She managed to hold it back, relying on her professional composure. The proud little prince was even more endearing; he should have that self-awareness.

She replied seriously, “Yes, that’s right. You are his only existence.”

    Bai Zhi nodded, deeply convinced.

Yu Fei saw Bai Zhi off, feeling quite emotional on the way up. She had initially thought this forcibly arranged marriage was just a smokescreen, but everything she had seen and heard told her otherwise.

By a strange twist of fate, things had worked out perfectly.

She wondered what Xie Minghong, who had orchestrated the marriage alliance, would think when he realized he had genuinely facilitated a good marriage. She looked forward to it.

On the way home, Bai Zhi unexpectedly, but perhaps predictably, received a message from Liu Ye. She said she didn’t know who to talk to about certain things and could only think of him.

    She wanted to meet him.

But he didn’t want to meet. A phone call, however, was acceptable.

He didn’t avoid Zheng Feng and made the call. Liu Ye started by talking about how Bai Enfan, after failing to target him, went home and picked fights with her and her son. She spoke of her hopelessness for the future and her worries about her child, finally breaking down into sobs.

He listened quietly until she finished crying, then spoke in a clear voice, “Actually, you know very well what to do. The only way to end your current predicament is divorce. Relying on Bai Enfan to change is less reliable than relying on yourself.”

    “…He won’t agree, and Dad won’t either.”

“Then, taking a step back, regardless of whether you divorce or not, you can go abroad, far away from them. Think more about yourself. Only when you are well can you have the capacity to love your child.”

Bai Zhi understood this clearly. Even in the animal world, if the mother couldn’t take care of herself, the cub’s fate was likely death.

    Either starvation or being eaten.

Liu Ye on the other end of the phone clearly hadn’t made up her mind yet.

“But I don’t know, I don’t know how my child and I would survive after leaving the Bai family.”

Bai Zhi played with the Pikachu charm, thinking for about ten seconds. “You can survive no matter how you live. I can give you some settlement funds. Your desserts are excellent. Opening a small shop wouldn’t be a problem. I won’t say you’d be rich, but you could support yourself and your child with it.

“You must really like baking, too. I can taste it.”

    “But, but…”

Bai Zhi didn’t rush Liu Ye to make a decision. “It’s not something that happens overnight. Take your time to think about it and let me know when you decide.”

“…But why are you helping me? What, what can I do for you?”

Hearing this, a hint of disgust and coldness flashed in Bai Zhi’s eyes. He said frankly, “I don’t need you to do anything for me. I’m not helping you to get anything in return.

“I don’t like Bai Enfan. I’m happy to do anything that makes him break down or feel annoyed. Being abandoned by the wife and child he thought he had complete control over—he definitely won’t be able to handle that.

“Don’t you want to see his reaction then?”

After his words, there was a long silence on the other end.

The car drove into the garage before he heard Liu Ye’s voice, hoarse from crying, saying she would consider it carefully.

He had said all he could. He wasn’t going to nag. He wasn’t a saint or a good person. If he could cause trouble for Bai Enfan and make the extremely image-conscious father and son lose face, it was worth doing.

Of course, since Liu Ye had shown him some care, helping her was a win-win.

The key, however, depended on her own decision.

That evening, Xie Yuzhan brought back a small cake as promised. It was reportedly a flavor recommended by Yu Fei—sea salt cheesecake, slightly savory, and delicious.

He let CEO Xie try a bite, too. Of course, he fed him, using the same dessert spoon. Good things could be shared.

Xie Yuzhan wholeheartedly agreed; it was double the sweetness.

The temperature dropped over the next few days. Besides small cakes, Bai Zhi became obsessed with hot cocoa. Whether topped with marshmallows or milk foam, it was fragrant and delicious. Holding a cup of cocoa in the sunroom, admiring his plants—the feeling was ineffably wonderful.

Xie Yuzhan knew Bai Zhi’s recent preferences. When he came home from work that day, he brought some cocoa cream cheese soft cookies and two cocoa lava puffs. Thinking of the other man’s happy and satisfied expression while eating the small treats, his steps became lighter.

Any bad mood could be magically cured.

    However.

When he got home, Lin Haiyan informed him of some less-than-ideal news.

Bai Zhi had worked up a sweat tending to his plants and then caught a chill when he left the sunroom. He had a slight cold but refused to take medicine and had locked himself in his room, forbidding them from using the spare key to open the door.

The standoff had lasted nearly an hour.
