Doctor Lu Always Wants To Steal My Baby! Chapter 17
byChapter 17 The Sirius Tribe (Part 2)
Seeing Rupert put away his hand gesture and look at the communicator on his wrist, He Chen raised an eyebrow: “Two extra ‘ants,’ are you scared?”
“I don’t fall for provocation, Pasni.” Rupert beckoned. Behind him, a Mistorian with upright gray wolf ears stepped forward, holding an outdated optical computer. He reported in the Mistorian language, “Locked on. The signal is coming from here!”
The Mistorian’s wolf claw pointed at a small red dot centrally highlighted on the screen.
“Who are they? Someone who can make you roar, and who is being heavily protected?” Rupert narrowed his eyes again. “Pasni, tell me—”
He made a show of wanting to converse with He Chen, but the hand behind his back signaled his subordinate.
The subordinate immediately moved a finger, and a cannon shell shot out from the Mistorian warship without warning.
“Ning Tian!” He Chen shouted simultaneously!
“Five and six, cast the net. Seven and nine, prepare to intercept. The rest of the formation, mobile defense!”
Ning Tian in the starship responded immediately.
The order was executed without a moment’s delay. A massive burst of fireworks exploded in space, dazzling Chu Yunqi’s eyes and startling him into a cold sweat. A cannon shell? Aimed at him?!
“They really are just little ants.” Rupert licked his sharp teeth. “Pasni, you dare talk tough to me with just them.”
“They are enough.” He Chen raised his hand, summoning a virtual panel. A red box flashed on it, containing text in Blue Star script: Attack target locked. Effective destruction probability 98%.
He Chen kindly translated the message for the illiterate Rupert, complete with a technical explanation.
Rupert’s face twisted slightly: “Who knows if what you’re saying is true or false? Even if it is, I have enough weapons to blast that ship to pieces before your cannon arrives!”
“Then blast away. An annoying superior. I’d be happy to trade him for you being unable to return to the Sirius Tribe,” He Chen said.
Rupert stared at him, as if judging the truth of his words.
He Chen didn’t give him time to decide, speaking leisurely: “You have ten seconds to consider.”
With that, he raised the virtual panel on his right wrist high, his finger resting on the attack command: “Five, four…”
Rupert: ?
“Roar!” Rupert showed no change, but one of the Sirius Tribesmen behind him was clearly enraged. He arched his back, and his body, which had previously resembled a Blue Star human, suddenly swelled in a frenzy of transformation. Two wolf claws lunged rapidly toward He Chen!
He Chen’s expression remained unchanged. His right hand was still raised, but his left hand unclipped his lightsword and threw it as if casually. With a sharp “thud,” the scabbard struck the attacker right between the eyebrows!
The man was forced to cross his wolf claws in defense, but the immense force still slammed him backward. He Chen, neither too early nor too late, drew his lightsword and fluidly slashed at another Sirius Tribesman who was pouncing from the other side.
“Pfft!” The sound of the lightsword entering flesh rang out. He continued counting: “Three.”
Two more people surged forward and were struck down… “Two.”
“Enough!” Rupert suddenly shouted, stopping his subordinates. He looked darkly at He Chen, who had counted to “two.” “You fight me, and I’ll leave!”
“You won’t leave if I don’t fight you?” He Chen asked provocatively.
His answer was a ferocious, crimson giant wolf that lunged at him—it was Rupert, who had instantly transformed completely into his wolf form.
The moment the crimson giant wolf closed in, a wolf also surged forth from within He Chen—a white giant wolf covered in frost and treading on ice, carrying shattered snow.
The two wolves collided, silent, without howls or displays of dominance, but grappling fiercely in a muffled struggle.
Their speed was extreme, so fast that all movements blurred into afterimages, difficult for the naked eye to distinguish.
He Leyan’s eyes were wide, so nervous he forgot to breathe.
He didn’t understand the gibberish words, but he understood the scene before him: those bad wolves failed to sneak attack the big monster, so they switched to this more powerful, flame-like Mistorian wolf!
“Big Wolf and that Mi, Mimi Wolf, who is stronger?” He Leyan clutched his safety harness and asked.
Mimi Wolf? Ning Tian paused for a moment before answering: “The Commander is stronger.”
He wasn’t actually sure, but he couldn’t show weakness, and neither could the Commander.
If they showed weakness, who knew if these Mistorians would retreat? If they didn’t, even if they managed to destroy the enemy warship, the Mistorians might unleash all their firepower in a desperate move, resulting in heavy losses for them.
Ning Tian stared at the two wolves locked in combat and at He Chen, who remained composed in the center of the bridge. His finger rested on the attack button that would actually take effect, and he watched breathlessly.
If the Commander was in danger, even if it meant a desperate, all-or-nothing fight, he would create an opportunity for him to escape!
Fortunately, the grappling ended after a few breaths.
The crimson giant wolf, blood flowing from its neck, panted and reverted to Rupert’s form. The snow wolf stood guard beside He Chen, staring menacingly at Rupert, its figure slowly fading as if retreating into the void.
He Chen curved his lips into a bright smile: “Satisfied?”
“Satisfied.” Rupert’s breathing stabilized. He stared intently at a trace of deep blue in He Chen’s pupils and smiled too. “See you next time, Brother Pasni. I give you five seconds to return to your ant nest, otherwise, stay here forever and become my—human pet.”
The words “human pet” landed, and he suddenly closed the distance to He Chen with lightning speed. He Chen frowned, delivering an elbow strike to the wound on Rupert’s chest. Rupert grunted, spitting blood, but still managed to grab He Chen’s ear and whisper: “The gifts of the Sirius God all come with a price, human pet. Look closely at your eyes. You will need me.”
He retreated, clutching his chest and staring at He Chen, his eyes filled with an indistinguishable desire.
What the hell was that? He Chen frowned, pondering the words, but halfway through, he gave up: the warship beneath his feet was vibrating, meaning the Mistorians were activating their charged engines.
He Chen certainly didn’t want to take a trip to Mistor with them.
He immediately activated the gravity switch on his battle armor, and like metal drawn to a magnetic pole, he retreated toward his own starship.
“Are you injured?” The moment they pulled him into the starship using the external escape pod, Ning Tian asked.
He Chen shook his head and looked at the monitoring panel displaying the star map: “Did they retreat?”
Ning Tian nodded: “They have already jumped out of Imperial Star Territory.”
He Chen sighed in relief and turned to He Leyan, a sincere smile plastered on his handsome face: “Good boy, are you awake?”
He Leyan looked at him without speaking.
He Chen suddenly felt uncertain. He looked at Ning Tian and whispered, “How long has he been awake? What’s wrong, did you scare him?”
…Ning Tian was silent for a moment, then spoke: “What about ‘Pasni’?”
“What ‘Pasni’?” He Chen’s face stiffened for an instant.
“That name. I would like the Commander to explain it,” Ning Tian said meticulously.
“Explain what? Are you the superior or am I the superior?”
He Chen looked at Ning Tian with a hint of threat. Pasni, it just means ‘cheat you to death’… what’s there to explain?
“Fine, I’ll change the question.” Ning Tian’s expression was cold and stubborn. “You disappeared for a period three years ago. You said you were recovering from injuries, but actually, you—”
“Actually, I was recovering from injuries.” This time, He Chen’s expression was much more serious. Ning Tian subconsciously closed his mouth, but couldn’t help glancing at He Leyan with an unusually complex look.
The cub had rosy lips and white teeth, a healthy complexion, soft hair, tender skin, chubby cheeks, and clear, bright eyes… He was as beautiful as an angel, capable of purifying the heart just by looking at him. However—
Such an “angel” should theoretically be difficult to keep alive.
Among the Awakened, the healing type was precious because they were inherently difficult to be born and difficult to raise afterward: their physique was weaker than ordinary people, they were highly prone to early death in childhood, and the higher their talent, the more likely they were to die young.
In the ancient era of priests, there was a saying that “priests change the fate of warriors against the heavens, thus bearing heavenly punishment.” In the interstellar era, people were more scientific, discovering that the healing type’s spiritual domain was too strong, and the potential mental energy consumption was too great, making it easy for the physical body to collapse under the strain.
Since the collapse was due to mental energy consumption, naturally, the higher the talent, the easier the collapse. That’s why high-level healing types were extremely rare—most died young before maturing.
And He Leyan, he did have some issues and stayed in the Medical Academy for three years, but it was never a physical problem, only a spiritual domain instability issue.
Before his three-year-old potential test, people guessed his talent wouldn’t be low, because spiritual domain instability was also the exclusive trait of high-level healing cubs, but no one expected him to have dual S-rank talent.
Previously, Ning Tian hadn’t thought much of it, assuming the cub was lucky and naturally had a better physique, just like Lu Changqing—which was what the world also believed.
But now, Ning Tian couldn’t help but think more deeply.
Why was He Chen so certain that He Leyan’s “physique is no worse than anyone else’s”?
Who was the “little wolf cub” the Sirius Tribesman mentioned?
“Infiltrating the Holy Land, deceiving the favor”—rumor had it that the top Mistorian clans had their own secret lands that could enhance the physique of their clansmen…
Too much evidence pointed Ning Tian toward the direction he dared not believe.
“What did you do?” Ning Tian’s face was pale, but he still considered He Leyan, suppressing his anger and asking in a low voice, “Infiltrating the Sirius Tribe’s forbidden area, are you crazy?”
“You’re the one who’s crazy.” He Chen pushed him. “Why are you standing there dumbfounded? Notify everyone to stand down from combat readiness, return to your posts, and rejoin the patrol fleet.”
He certainly wasn’t crazy; he went only after making preparations.
A fool traded his life for He Chen’s, so He Chen had to fulfill that fool’s dying wish and ensure Leyan’s lifelong health and safety, no matter what.
He Chen pushed Ning Tian again. Ning Tian shot a look at the lunatic, his chest full of an unidentifiable mix of anger and other emotions. He coldly sat back in the pilot’s seat to relay the commands.
He Chen crouched down in front of He Leyan, looking at his tightly clenched little hands, then scanning back to his face: “Scared? I’m sorry.”
He Leyan pursed his lips, shook his head, and scanned He Chen up and down with his eyes.
Was this what fighting was like?
Was that hand injured like this? He Leyan looked at He Chen’s alloy right hand.
He Chen hid the hand that had just held the sword.
He had somewhat figured out He Leyan’s temperament: the child was very concerned with saving face, liked to act like a little adult, and would likely refuse to admit he was scared.
How should he handle this situation, should he counsel him, or should he ask that “Dad-bi”?
As He Chen was thinking this and about to speak, He Leyan reached out and pointed to He Chen’s ear: “Here, it’s bleeding.”
Bleeding? He Chen touched his ear, felt a foreign object, and simply pulled it off.
“What is it?” Ning Tian looked at the object with some tension.
He Leyan looked at He Chen’s ear nervously: How could he just pull it off? It’s bleeding even more!
He Chen didn’t pay attention to his own blood. He picked up the small white object, looked at it twice, and his expression suddenly became stiff: “Nothing, just trash.”
He stood up and, as if it were burning his hand, swiftly tossed the object into the trash can.
“What was it? Aren’t you going to test it?” Ning Tian was a little anxious.
“No need.” A wolf tooth, what’s there to test?
He Chen pulled out a tissue, wiped his ear clean, and quickly threw the tissue into the trash can too.
He Leyan frowned watching this scene. After He Chen told him two stories and returned to his seat to rest with his eyes closed, He Leyan sent a message to Lu Changqing:
Dad-bi, the big monster’s ear is hurt. The thing that hurt it seems to be a tooth. Will he be okay?
Far from the base, there was no signal in the starship, so the message couldn’t be sent yet.
He Leyan knew this and wasn’t too worried. Based on his limited knowledge, he could deduce that an ear injury shouldn’t be a big problem.
But two Blue Star hours later, he wasn’t so sure:
The starship, moving forward, jolted slightly. The jolt wasn’t severe, He Leyan barely felt it, but the big monster, resting with his eyes closed, suddenly coughed and spat out a mouthful of bloody foam!
