Chapter 3: The Old Duck’s Mouth Is Harder Than His Bottom

Chen Shuo’s smile was mocking. “You’re the pervert. You’re a pervert who likes being played by men!”

Lu Shangyan raised his fist, but before it could fall, Pei Yumin grabbed him firmly.

It wasn’t that he wouldn’t let him hit Chen Shuo, but he was afraid that continuing to beat him would result in a death.

Furthermore, Chen Shuo didn’t look like a good person. If Lu Shangyan didn’t kill him and he ended up biting back, Lu Shangyan would only get into more trouble.

Chen Shuo clearly thought the same thing, and not receiving the punch made him even more provocative. “Why did you stop? Putting on a weak act, are you? So your husband came to back you up.”

Lu Shangyan struggled to get up and continue hitting him, but Pei Yumin held him tightly in his arms.

It was only then that he realized Lu Shangyan was shaking violently, his hands and back constantly breaking out in sweat, yet his skin felt cold to the touch.

With this realization, nothing Chen Shuo said mattered anymore.

He pulled Lu Shangyan up, gripped his wrist tightly, and prepared to take him to the hospital.

Lu Shangyan was clearly starting to lose his mind; his breathing was becoming erratic. If this continued, something bad would happen.

But Chen Shuo sat up from the ground. “You think you can just leave after hitting someone?”

Pei Yumin didn’t want to waste time. He warned him with a dark expression, “I advise you to be quiet now. You won’t like the consequences if you anger me.”

Chen Shuo had been publicly beaten, losing face without gaining anything, and now he was being threatened. He immediately pointed his finger and started swearing back. “What are you?! Can you die if you don’t show off? As expected of a little duck selling himself, your mouth is so hard!”

His voice grew louder and louder, forcing Pei Yumin to temporarily cover Lu Shangyan’s ears.

But this didn’t have any substantial effect.

Lu Shangyan lifted his eyelids and stared intently at him. “Whatever you have, bring it to me.”

Chen Shuo deliberately baited him. “He’s your boyfriend, is that why you’re protecting him so much?”

Lu Shangyan couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words with him and raised his hand to teach him a lesson again. Chen Shuo, however, became smug and thrust his face forward. “I’ll give you a discount. I’ll only charge you twenty thousand for this punch.”

Lu Shangyan’s pupils dilated. Mentioning money sobered him up considerably. He dropped his raised hand heavily and, looking at Chen Shuo’s injuries, silently calculated the cost in his mind.

Then he took a deep breath and said, feigning composure, “You fought back too, and you took a lot of photos of me on your phone. By that measure, you’re the one who went too far.”

Upon hearing this, Pei Yumin kicked Chen Shuo’s already broken phone several more times, then picked it up and tucked it into his pocket. “Confiscated!”

If Chen Shuo tried to cause trouble in the future, these would be evidence.

He then helped Lu Shangyan toward the hospital, but Chen Shuo tried to block them.

Pei Yumin’s expression worsened. “Don’t worry, this isn’t over. There will be plenty of opportunities to talk about this properly later.”

Chen Shuo sneered. “Showing off again. Look at your sickly face. In your line of work, you must be an old duck by now. Your mouth is harder than your bottom.”

Pei Yumin frowned imperceptibly but didn’t react further.

It wasn’t until he had taken Lu Shangyan to the hospital for a check-up and confirmed he was fine that he suddenly lowered his gaze.

He grabbed Lu Shangyan’s wrist and whispered, “I’m not sickly at all. You definitely know that, right?”

Hearing the aggrieved tone, Lu Shangyan thought he had misheard.

He looked back and saw that the man who had just been acting like a raging, arrogant god was now less focused on raging and more focused on proving his ability to be a god in bed.

Lu Shangyan only considered him a near-stranger he had met a few times, someone he had accidentally had intimate contact with, but was still half-unfamiliar.

He didn’t want to discuss such matters in public.

So he lowered his head, pretending he hadn’t heard anything. Just then, he received a text message.

The contact was saved as: [Ran too fast after giving me a drink, didn’t have time to pay (Female, owes 5 yuan)]

The sender told him: [I heard Chen Shuo was the one who posted those photos. Do you need my help?]

Lu Shangyan thought for a moment before realizing this was the “goddess” Chen Shuo had mentioned.

If she spoke up, Chen Shuo might listen, but he wouldn’t necessarily let Lu Shangyan off the hook.

Xia Li was just an excuse for Chen Shuo to cause trouble, allowing him to frame his actions as being for the sake of a beautiful woman, making him seem less petty and inexplicable.

But in reality, the feud between them had started even before Chen Shuo spoke to Xia Li—more accurately, right at the beginning of the semester.

It was because Chen Shuo had made vulgar remarks in the dorm, saying he had a girlfriend who was a small model and that he would bring her back to sleep in the dorm in a couple of days.

He said he hadn’t tried it in a university dorm before and wanted some excitement, asking them all to go out that night and come back later.

He even offered them cigarettes and bought them drinks, saying if they cooperated, he would film some videos for them to watch.

Lu Shangyan was instantly disgusted. He picked up the drink on the desk and violently smashed it against Chen Shuo’s head.

The two started fighting in the dorm, neither willing to back down, until their roommates finally reacted and pulled them apart.

Chen Shuo was indignant and took the opportunity to kick Lu Shangyan’s thigh. Lu Shangyan didn’t fight back, knowing long ago that he couldn’t afford the compensation.

Afterward, Chen Shuo never mentioned such things in the dorm again, but he continued to cause trouble for Lu Shangyan both overtly and covertly.

Lu Shangyan frowned. He couldn’t tell Xia Li about the disgusting things Chen Shuo had done and said.

He simply replied: [No need. I’ll handle it myself. This has nothing to do with you. Chen Shuo is just going crazy because he purely dislikes me.]

Moreover, even if it were entirely because of Xia Li, he couldn’t ask her to go talk to Chen Shuo.

That bastard Chen Shuo might take the opportunity to make unreasonable demands of Xia Li.

Chen Shuo’s methods were dirty, and if Xia Li wasn’t careful, she would be ruined.

After replying, Lu Shangyan transferred five yuan to her.

But Xia Li, like many times before, didn’t accept the money and didn’t reply to his message again.

Lu Shangyan left the hospital and thanked Pei Yumin.

Seeing that Lu Shangyan’s complexion was still poor, Pei Yumin offered to drive him back.

Lu Shangyan pursed his lips and shook his head, refusing. “It’s still early, and I don’t have class this afternoon. I plan to look for a place. I need to move out of the dorm as soon as possible.”

Pei Yumin frowned tightly. “I really can solve this. You don’t need to waste that money.”

Besides, he felt partly responsible for the situation.

Lu Shangyan replied, “I understand what you mean, but even if Chen Shuo could genuinely coexist peacefully with me in the future, I still can’t stay in the dorm.”

“Although I was a bit out of it last night, I vaguely remember feeling quite comfortable when we were doing it.”

“I always thought I didn’t like humans. Now it seems I might be gay.”

He spoke candidly, as if he wasn’t talking about himself but recounting an irrelevant story.

Pei Yumin’s eyes widened, and he suddenly blurted out, “No!”

He regretted it immediately and desperately tried to explain. “Maybe it’s because I was the person that night, which is why you felt comfortable?”

He was practically screaming, “You don’t like men, you just like me, this man,” without actually saying it.

Pei Yumin felt his face flush after speaking.

But Lu Shangyan seriously pondered the statement, failing to grasp any deeper meaning. He just said, “That makes sense. I really shouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

Pei Yumin straightened his chest, offering himself up.

Lu Shangyan didn’t even look at him, turning to say, “But I still need to move out first.”

After all, he had other plans.

Pei Yumin’s mouth moved faster than his brain. “Perfect! We can share an apartment! If we split the rent, we might even be able to rent a bigger place for less money.”

Lu Shangyan looked at him, full of doubt. Pei Yumin quickly explained, “I work nearby, and I still can’t afford to buy a house. I want to save more money too.”

Lu Shangyan was also poor, having lived under someone else’s roof for over ten years, so he understood the heartache of not having a real home better than anyone.

Thinking that Pei Yumin had indeed helped him a lot, he felt he couldn’t refuse even a small matter like sharing an apartment to save money.

After a brief internal struggle, he nodded and agreed.

However, finding a suitable apartment wasn’t easy. Lu Shangyan had to stay in a hotel near the school for the time being.

As soon as Pei Yumin got home, he instructed his assistant to set up a temporary team to evaluate the properties near Z University.

They needed to find a highly cost-effective apartment that Lu Shangyan could rent at a low price without becoming suspicious.

Two hours later, the assistant sent him information on six apartments.

Pei Yumin didn’t hesitate. To prevent any complications during the viewing, he simply purchased all of them at a high price, planning to take Lu Shangyan out tomorrow, see which one he liked, and then rent it out to him at an ultra-low price.

After Lu Shangyan finished showering, he received a message from Xia Li.

Xia Li told him that all the photos and videos related to him had disappeared from the school network. Furthermore, the counselors of various colleges had held an emergency meeting today, ordering students not to post false information that smeared others, or they would face severe penalties.

[A Little Chestnut: The school has issued a death order this time. You don’t have to worry anymore.]

Lu Shangyan replied: [Thank you for your concern.]

[Why haven’t you accepted the money yet? It’s almost been 24 hours.]

    Xia Li didn’t reply again.

Lu Shangyan had no choice but to find five yuan in change and tuck it behind his phone case, planning to give it to her directly the next time they met.

Pei Yumin’s preparations certainly paid off.

The next day when they went apartment hunting, as soon as Lu Shangyan heard the price, he quickly pulled the “acting assistant” who was posing as the landlord to sign the contract.

The apartment was right next to the subway and bus stops outside the complex gate.

And if he walked quickly, it would only take half an hour to get to school. Commuting back and forth every day would allow him to exercise and save money.

After sending off the acting assistant, Lu Shangyan couldn’t stop smiling.

He had been pretending to be picky about the apartment earlier, afraid of being overcharged, and only agreed to rent it quickly because he felt he had no other choice.

But his acting was poor; his eyes were glued to the apartment when he spoke, making his words completely unconvincing.

After paying the rent and deposit, Lu Shangyan had very little money left in his pocket.

Pei Yumin seized the opportunity to tell him, “I know a hotel nearby that’s hiring part-time staff. From 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM, you can take four days off a month, and the salary is three thousand.”

    Lu Shangyan blinked. “That much?”

Pei Yumin nodded. “It’s a five-star hotel. The work isn’t much, but there are a lot of rules. If you encounter difficult or bad-tempered guests, you might have to endure a lot of frustration, especially as a part-timer.”

Lu Shangyan finally relaxed and felt relieved. So, this was compensation for emotional distress. In that case, the salary was actually a bit low.

Pei Yumin drove him to the interview. “However, if you meet generous guests, the tips can be substantial.”

Lu Shangyan immediately sat up straight.

In reality, Pei Yumin had arranged this job for him through connections, so he didn’t need to be nervous at all.

But clearly, Pei Yumin, who was living in a small rented apartment with Lu Shangyan, couldn’t tell him the truth while maintaining his persona as a low-level employee.

However, Pei Yumin quite enjoyed seeing Lu Shangyan’s display of “cleverness” in striving to achieve his goals.

    It was utterly adorable.

But who would have thought that they would almost be exposed right at the entrance?

The big-mouthed and malicious Tang Suichen actually came to interview the employees himself!
