Chapter 2: My Shang Shang Baby

Lu Shangyan silently retrieved his two hundred yuan, lowering his eyelashes, feeling a little defeated: “If you really think it’s not enough, could you wait a bit? I’ll give it to you immediately once I get paid from my part-time job.”

“But my part-time wages aren’t much, so I might have to pay you in installments. If you don’t trust me, I can write you an IOU.”

Paying for a man in installments—Lu Shangyan figured he was probably the only one doing this.

Pei Yumin, who was hugging his leg and had been feeling frisky, secretly wanting to rub against him a few times, felt a pang of sadness upon hearing this. He immediately entered ‘enlightenment mode.’

He said with even greater conviction, “I don’t want money. I just want you to take responsibility for me.”

As long as Lu Shangyan took responsibility for him and stayed with him, he wouldn’t have to live such a hard life.

Lu Shangyan frowned slightly, a little helpless: “You are very strange.”

Pei Yumin hugged his leg and started to push upward, nearly flipping him back onto the bed.

He looked exactly like a large dog, the kind that couldn’t understand human language.

Annoyed by the pushing, Lu Shangyan pressed down on his head and asked sincerely, “When you had a fever as a child, did you secretly go to see a vet?”

Pei Yumin actually started thinking about it.

Seeing his reaction, Lu Shangyan couldn’t help but say, “How much is it, exactly? If worst comes to worst, I’ll give you fifty more so you can buy two bottles of brain tonic.”

Pei Yumin sensed his patience was limited: “Let’s add each other as friends first. We can discuss this matter in detail later.”

Lu Shangyan thought he wanted to discuss the money, so he agreed and turned around to fish out his ‘bomb’ phone.

The screen and back cover were each shattered in their own unique way, and just pressing the button to light up the screen caused it to flicker twice.

Even so, Lu Shangyan treasured the phone, wrapping it in a pretty phone case, and pressing the keys with extreme caution.

Pei Yumin leaned over for a look; the QR code was completely illegible.

So he had to say, “Never mind, why don’t you scan mine?”

Lu Shangyan replied flatly, “The camera is broken.”

Pei Yumin paused for a few seconds before saying, without changing his expression, “Then just tell me your number.”

In the end, they managed to add each other as friends.

While Lu Shangyan was getting dressed, Pei Yumin quickly screenshotted the ‘Friend Added Successfully’ notification in the chat box and sent it to Tang Suichen.

[m: Chenzi, I’ve truly fallen in love this time.]

[m: You’re good at reeling in men. I’m serious this time, you absolutely must teach me how to pursue my wife!]

    The reply came quickly.

[c overturns the entire world: One of you is an S and the other is an M. The attributes of these couple usernames are very clear.]

Pei Yumin was in the middle of changing Lu Shangyan’s contact name. Seeing that message, he immediately deleted the typed “Shang Shang Baby / Heart” and changed it to “S Baby.”

At that moment, Lu Shangyan had just finished changing clothes and happened to see his screen.

He said in a low voice, “I am not a ‘Sāo’ (flirty/slutty) Baby.”

    Pei Yumin: “…”

Pei Yumin inexplicably felt guilty and put away his phone. Lu Shangyan once again noticed his shiny phone case and a certain fruit logo.

He thought of the phone in his own pocket, wrapped in several layers and still threatening to fall apart.

He couldn’t help but ask, “Do people in your line of work all earn this much?”

It took Pei Yumin a while to understand: “I’m really not selling myself. I accidentally got caught up in that mess with you yesterday.”

He was also afraid Lu Shangyan still wouldn’t believe him. Seeing how desperately Lu Shangyan needed money, Pei Yumin worried he might actually end up going down that path one day.

After all, with a face like Lu Shangyan’s, if he just stood there and offered a passionate kiss for money, there would probably be a long queue.

He gritted his teeth inwardly and finally said, “I can help you find a part-time job.”

He guaranteed, “It’s absolutely legitimate work!”

Lu Shangyan’s deeply probing gaze instantly changed.

His eyes brightened as he moved closer to Pei Yumin: “Thank you so much! I’ll treat you to a meal! A very expensive meal!”

Until he left, Lu Shangyan kept praising him with a cold face, calling him a “Great Samaritan” and “Beautiful and Kind-hearted,” and although his voice was mechanical and devoid of emotion, it still made Pei Yumin blush.

Before returning to school, Lu Shangyan went for a full medical check-up at the hospital. He walked quite a distance, and by the time he reached the dorm, his waist and legs were sore and numb.

He tried several times, but couldn’t successfully sit down on the chair.

The back wasn’t wet anymore, but it was extremely swollen.

He vaguely remembered the size of Pei Yumin in his palm, and even when both parties had lost their minds, there was still no blood.

He didn’t know whether to say Pei Yumin had good technique or if he himself was naturally gifted.

While he was thinking, Chen Shuo kicked his chair.

He hadn’t been sitting steadily, and the kick sent him straight to the floor, causing him to frown and gasp in pain.

This was a six-person mixed dorm. Two roommates were out for afternoon classes.

Another roommate usually had a very low presence and would immediately hide in the corner whenever Chen Shuo caused trouble.

The remaining people were Chen Shuo, his lackey Liu Tong, and someone from another dorm named Shi Qing.

Lu Shangyan swept his eyes over them, propped himself up, and stood.

He didn’t get along with these people, but they had maintained a superficial civility.

However, what happened last night clearly showed Chen Shuo was leading the effort to mess with him.

He wasn’t stupid. He knew Chen Shuo had malicious intentions, and what happened yesterday had crossed his bottom line.

Lu Shangyan wasn’t planning on tolerating it anymore. His tone was unfriendly: “If you don’t have eyes, go to the ophthalmologist and get dog eyes installed.”

Chen Shuo, who had been laughing mockingly, instantly became enraged upon hearing this.

He stepped forward, grabbed Lu Shangyan’s collar, and slammed him hard against the wardrobe behind him: “Say that again if you dare!”

Lu Shangyan looked him straight in the eye: “A useless coward who only dares to use underhanded tricks.”

Chen Shuo gnashed his teeth: “That’s only because you’re a poor bastard! You get so happy over two hundred yuan. I bet if someone paid you to eat shit, you’d excitedly eat two piles!”

Lu Shangyan didn’t hesitate, hitting him hard with a punch. Chen Shuo stumbled back a few steps and crashed into the desk.

Half his face was numb and aching, and being beaten in front of his subordinates made him feel so humiliated that his face flushed red.

Lu Shangyan rolled his eyes at him, grabbed his clothes, and planned to go to the bathroom to shower and secretly rub his aching waist, just in case he needed to fight again later.

Chen Shuo blocked him first: “You queer. What if you bring back some dirty disease? You don’t deserve to live here anymore.”

The lackey standing next to him finally reacted, snatching the bath towel from Lu Shangyan’s hand and throwing it on the floor.

“Don’t use the bathroom. Who knows what indecent things you might do in there?”

“We are all decent straight men. You’re truly disgusting. It’s best if you get out early.”

Lu Shangyan scanned them: “I paid the accommodation fee. If you don’t want to live here, you can move out yourselves.”

He had thrown a punch and felt the anger subside somewhat.

More importantly, he was afraid Chen Shuo would hold the punch against him and demand compensation if they truly fought, which he couldn’t afford.

He lowered his head, intending to walk around them.

Seeing his reaction, and having just lost face, Chen Shuo grabbed his collar and shoved him directly out of the dorm room.

Lu Shangyan’s back hit the wall, jarring the sore spots on his body. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor, kneeling.

Shi Qing grabbed Chen Shuo, who was about to kick him: “Shuo Ge, is he trying to extort money?”

Chen Shuo’s heart tightened when he saw Lu Shangyan fall to the ground.

But he quickly pulled out his phone and started recording a video: “He’s not too injured to stand up; he’s just exhausted from hooking up with a man last night!”

“Look at the marks on his body! You can imagine how wild he played last night!”

Lu Shangyan raised his head and saw Chen Shuo standing in front of him with his phone.

He was filming his face so openly.

Chen Shuo continued to curse: “You can’t live without men, do you have to beg them to top you?”

Lu Shangyan clutched his collar tightly and shoved him.

The fear of being forced to face a camera many years ago rushed back. Cold sweat broke out on his body, his vision blurred, and with trembling hands and red eyes, he pushed the person away: “Get lost!”

At this time, many people were resting in their dorms.

Hearing the commotion outside, they all rushed out. Many people came to watch the excitement, and seeing Chen Shuo filming with his phone, they started filming too.

Lu Shangyan’s breathing became increasingly rapid. He braced himself, trying to hide.

But Chen Shuo grabbed his shoulder first: “I wondered why I always found you unpleasant. Turns out you carry that disgusting aura!”

On the other side, Pei Yumin was still immersed in the happiness of having spent an intimate night with Lu Shangyan and then exchanging contact information.

Not long after Lu Shangyan left, he immediately called Tang Suichen.

He subtly and overtly bragged about how gentle Lu Shangyan was, and how he was willing to spend money on his medical treatment even though he was poor.

Tang Suichen mocked him: “He probably genuinely thinks you have a brain disease.”

But Pei Yumin kept saying he didn’t understand, and then, for the umpteenth time, he boasted that he and Lu Shangyan had couple usernames: “Isn’t that fate?”

Tang Suichen was utterly speechless and annoyed. In less than an hour, he already regretted telling Pei Yumin about the discovery.

But he quickly remembered something else and asked with a cold laugh, “You’re happy, but your little Shang Shang might not be.”

“Do you know that the videos and photos of you and Lu Shangyan hugging, and you playing the hero—or rather, not the hero—saving the handsome guy, are now going viral at Z University?”

His phone vibrated a few times.

Pei Yumin saw the photos and videos Tang Suichen forwarded.

But after looking at them, he couldn’t help but laugh: “Don’t you think Shang Shang looks adorable clinging to me in my arms?”

“And this photo of our backs—don’t you think that just from the back, Shang Shang and I look like a match made in heaven?”

    Tang Suichen was exasperated.

He snorted: “I don’t know if Lu Shangyan is a good match for you, but I know that if you don’t handle this, his reputation will be ruined, and he’ll be waiting to be expelled from school.”

Pei Yumin paused, his hand freezing over the save button: “What do you mean by that?”

Tang Suichen said, “I hooked up with a young guy a while ago, and he and Lu Shangyan are both from Z University. We were about to break things off, but he keeps texting me and looking for topics.”

“I was filmed for a few seconds in that video, so he sent it to me asking what was going on. He also said that Lu Shangyan has provoked someone he shouldn’t have. The troublemaker is named Chen Shuo, who has a relative at Z University. He relies on that backing and practically walks sideways every day.”

“Chen Shuo is the one who posted these photos and videos, and the insults are terrible. If you don’t help, Lu Shangyan definitely won’t be able to stay. I heard he’s quite poor, and it wasn’t easy for him to get into Z University. If he gets expelled because of you, you probably won’t be able to leave a good impression on him for the rest of your life.”

Before he finished speaking, Pei Yumin hung up the phone, grabbed his wrinkled jacket, and ran out.

On the way, he called the principal, asking him to help deal with the messages on the school’s official website and forum.

Principal Guo was still confused, but since it was Pei Yumin’s “request,” the order was issued before anything was clarified.

After arriving at the school, Pei Yumin rushed up to the fifth floor, following the dorm number Tang Suichen had coaxed out of his date.

Turning the corner from the stairs onto the hallway, he saw a large crowd of people craning their necks to look outside.

Then, Lu Shangyan kicked Chen Shuo, sending him sliding several meters across the floor.

Shi Qing and Liu Tong rushed forward to intervene, but after taking two steps, they stopped, afraid to go further.

Pei Yumin breathed a sigh of relief and slowed his pace, walking forward. He thought that this fiery little pepper didn’t need his protection at all; he wouldn’t suffer any losses.

Lu Shangyan squatted next to Chen Shuo and pried the phone from his hand.

He originally intended to delete the videos taken last night and just now, but unexpectedly, he found other videos on the phone.

Just one glance made his eyes turn red with rage. He punched Chen Shuo again, gritting his teeth as he said, “When did you sneak into the bathroom to film!? Are you a pervert or what!”
