Chapter Index

The warmth of the skin against his palm sent a shiver down Xie Jingshen’s spine, causing a layer of fine sweat to break out.

Xie Jingshen tried his best not to act like a young and inexperienced boy, staring calmly at Jiang Yifeng, using his hand to warm himself, while secretly tightening his grip on Jiang Yifeng’s palm.

“We…” Xie Jingshen, as a president who always planned meticulously, couldn’t utter a complete sentence at this moment.

All his calmness and composure vanished the moment he saw Jiang Yifeng. The pretense he put on, coupled with his stuttering tone, made the originally nervous Jiang Yifeng laugh instantly.

“So, you get nervous too,” Jiang Yifeng said, pursing his lips.

Seeing Xie Jingshen’s serious expression and feeling the sweaty palms intertwined, Jiang Yifeng felt something incredibly wonderful and novel in his heart.

Xie Jingshen didn’t seem as formidable as he had imagined.

He was just a mortal in front of him, one who would get sweaty palms from nervousness and be at a loss for words, his mind a complete mess.

“Let’s pack our things first. We’ll buy you some clothes on the street later, and then go home.”

Jiang Yifeng shook Xie Jingshen’s hand, seemingly asking for his opinion.

Xie Jingshen nodded solemnly, but his heart was in a complete turmoil, unable to think straight.

He held Jiang Yifeng’s hand the whole time. It was inconvenient to pack with only one hand, but neither of them mentioned letting go.

After packing the essentials, Jiang Yifeng put on a hat and mask to cover his excessively handsome face.

“Xie Jingshen, do you want to wear a mask and hat too?” Jiang Yifeng tilted his head to look at Xie Jingshen, smiling before he even spoke, “You’re too handsome.”

    “Okay,” Xie Jingshen nodded.

He felt like he looked a little dazed now, unable to take his eyes off Jiang Yifeng, letting him arrange everything.

He coughed, trying to salvage his image.

But before Xie Jingshen could speak, Jiang Yifeng became nervous first.

“Xie Jingshen, are you catching a cold?” He looked at Xie Jingshen’s clothes and then at his figure, immediately thinking of Guan Shaodong next door.

He let go of Xie Jingshen’s hand, told him to wait, and knocked on Guan Shaodong’s door.

“What?” Guan Shaodong poked his head out. “If you’re asking for a favor, you can come dressed in women’s clothes…”

    “I’m here to borrow clothes.”

“Huh? My clothes probably won’t fit you, right? And don’t you have a lot of clothes?” Guan Shaodong was full of question marks.

Jiang Yifeng pointed to the location of the room.

“My boyfriend came over and didn’t bring any clothes.”

    Guan Shaodong: “…”

An inappropriate image of a naked man flashed into Guan Shaodong’s mind.

He tried hard to shake the image out of his head, looking at Jiang Yifeng with a shocked expression.

Then, Guan Shaodong slammed the door shut.

Jiang Yifeng thought that Guan Shaodong, a straight man, might not be able to accept seeing two men together for the time being—or maybe he just didn’t want to lend clothes.

He turned back a little helplessly, but the door opened again after only two steps.

Guan Shaodong grabbed a jacket and pants and handed them out, lowering his voice to ask, “Do you want underwear?”

    Jiang Yifeng: “???”

Jiang Yifeng: “It’s not that bad.”

He took Guan Shaodong’s clothes, thanked him, and went back to the room.

Xie Jingshen had recovered while sitting on the chair. Seeing Jiang Yifeng holding a pile of clothes, he asked gently where they came from.

“Borrowed them from Guan Shaodong next door. I think his figure is similar to yours.”

Xie Jingshen frowned, but he still took the jacket and put it on.

It fit, and the zipper worked, but the sleeves were a bit short.

    Xie Jingshen compared the pants.

“These are also a little short.”

Xie Jingshen commented silently, “And I’m wearing pants.”

Jiang Yifeng saw Xie Jingshen zip up the coat. The thick clothes were windproof and warm.

He breathed a sigh of relief and turned back to put the pants on the back of the chair. “I’ll return them when we get back.”

After speaking, Jiang Yifeng smiled again. “Perfect, I have a forty-eight-hour vacation.”

“I can spend all of it with you.” Xie Jingshen’s eyes were gentle and kind, as if filled with a pool of water.

Jiang Yifeng’s cheeks were flushed. He nodded and handed the hat and mask to Xie Jingshen.

Xie Jingshen also dressed himself up like a big star, covering himself up tightly, with only his overly long legs sticking out a long way from the hem of the coat.

“Let’s go eat first, then go to the cinema…” Jiang Yifeng’s eyes sparkled as he carefully planned their two days together.

Xie Jingshen was thinking about the feeling of Jiang Yifeng’s waist, how slender it was, and how his fingers would sink into it.

However, as Jiang Yifeng talked about the everyday things that couples do, he simply nodded. “We can do a lot of things in two days… let’s do all the things we want to do.”

Besides that kind of thing, they had many other things they could do.

Xie Jingshen suppressed the unhealthy thoughts of an adult in his heart. He placed his palm on Jiang Yifeng’s wrist, and as they held hands, his heart settled down.

“But what I want most is to hug you more.”

To feel the touch that he had never felt before.

“Go ahead and hug…” Jiang Yifeng looked away silently.

Xie Jingshen opened his arms, and just as Jiang Yifeng was about to hug him, his phone rang suddenly.

He glanced at it; it was the landlady’s call.

Jiang Yifeng answered the phone strangely, only to hear the landlady’s trembling voice: “Come back quickly, something happened, something happened!”

    Jiang Yifeng’s pupils shrank suddenly.

He hung up the phone and grabbed Xie Jingshen’s hand to run outside.

    “What’s wrong?”

“The landlady said something happened.” Jiang Yifeng’s expression was serious. “She’s out of town and received a call from the neighbor… she can’t explain it clearly, we have to go back quickly.”

Jiang Yifeng didn’t even have time to find his electric scooter, so he took a taxi home from the edge of Hengdian.

But Hengdian was very far from his home, and the hour-long drive left Jiang Yifeng exhausted. As soon as the elevator doors opened when they arrived at the apartment complex, he saw a chaotic mess of a room.

The small room had been smashed all over by something, and several people were casually sitting on his small sofa.

His uncle was watching TV with his arms crossed. Hearing the footsteps, he cursed and mumbled. Only when his muddled gaze fell on the door did he chuckle.

“Jiang Yifeng, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”

    Jiang Yifeng said nothing.

He directly rolled up his sleeves and started walking forward.

Xie Jingshen grabbed Jiang Yifeng’s arm.

    “You’re a celebrity, after all.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Kairu followed with a laugh, “That’s right, a celebrity.”

    “So, I’ll help you.”

    Xie Jingshen unbuttoned his coat.

He didn’t look like a violent person, but when he raised his fist and punched, none of the people in the room could stop him.

Three or four young people were knocked down by him in a few blows, and Xie Jingshen didn’t hold back even against the two women among them.

When Xie Jingshen hit the other people, he only hit their bodies, but only Jiang Kairu’s face was bruised.

Watching Xie Jingshen roll up his sleeves, they finally understood that the man in front of them was not as peaceful and calm as he seemed.

Jiang Yifeng had already called the police. He waited for Xie Jingshen to take care of the people in the room before entering to check the situation.

The room had been completely trashed. Even the wallpaper had been torn off in several places, there were footprints on the fluffy sofa, the floor was dirty, the decorations were smashed to pieces, and further inside, the sheets and bedding had been pulled onto the floor. Perhaps to vent their anger, even the pillows were covered in dirty prints, it was unclear what caused them.

A few years ago, Jiang Kairu was still a respectable person. When asking him for money, he would at most just disappear or righteously declare that he had no money.

“Your father’s illness used up all the money, there’s nothing left at all. Besides, you don’t have to pay it back anyway, why are you in such a hurry?”

Jiang Yifeng only felt that Jiang Kairu was extremely hypocritical, pointing his finger at him and scolding him. Jiang Kairu also looked like, “If that’s what you think, I can’t help it,” which made Jiang Yifeng tremble with anger, but Jiang Kairu still looked gentle.

He even tried to persuade Jiang Yifeng not to be so extreme.

But now that Jiang Kairu couldn’t get any money, he could only think of the most extreme methods.

Jiang Yifeng was surprisingly quiet after coming out.

He looked down at Jiang Kairu, “I’ve already called the police.”

“You’re a celebrity, you’re still filming, right?” The only little girl, Wen Wen, asked while crying, “You’re filming, if something happens, don’t even think about being a celebrity anymore. You wait, I’ll expose you then…”

“Wen Wen?” Jiang Yifeng called out her name after recognizing her for a while.

    Wen Wen nodded.

Jiang Yifeng laughed. “Was it you who told him that I’m a celebrity, that I can film and earn money?”

    Wen Wen hesitated and nodded.

“I remember you’re still in school?” Jiang Yifeng crouched down halfway, and Xie Jingshen stood behind him. “I’ve called the police, you wait for a record to be made.”

Disbelief appeared on Wen Wen’s face.

Jiang Kairu didn’t expect Jiang Yifeng to be so ruthless, not even willing to let go when threatened with his career.

The other tall man stood so quietly behind Jiang Yifeng, silently protecting him, making everyone present afraid to even think about laying a hand on Jiang Yifeng.

Jiang Kairu’s emotions became increasingly worse. He glared at Jiang Yifeng angrily, wanting to scold him, but he was afraid of being beaten, so he could only try to make his words sound better: “We don’t plan to ask you for much money anyway, celebrities make money so easily, what’s wrong with giving me some?”

“…” Jiang Yifeng looked at Jiang Kairu, saying word by word, “I would rather donate the money than give it to you.”

“When the police come, I’ll have to make you give me money, you hit me so hard.”

    Jiang Kairu said confidently.

Jiang Yifeng ignored him. He turned on the TV, pulled Xie Jingshen to sit on the chair, and waited for the police to handle the situation.

The others were also helped up to sit down.

However, Xie Jingshen was in pain everywhere from the beating. Jiang Kairu clutched his stomach and grimaced, and the others were not feeling well either.

Xie Jingshen leaned against Jiang Yifeng’s side, watching TV.

Jiang Yifeng sat with his back to the others, but Xie Jingshen saw Jiang Yifeng crying.

    His heart softened at once.

He grabbed Jiang Yifeng’s hand tightly, but said nothing.

The police arrived quickly. Those people were taken away first, while another police officer assisted Jiang Yifeng in taking photos and recording the situation inside the room, to facilitate later damage assessment.

Since there were more people than expected, the police only took those people back and asked Jiang Yifeng to take a taxi over.

Before leaving home, only Jiang Yifeng and Xie Jingshen were left in the messy house.

“I’ve lived here for more than six years. In those six years…” Jiang Yifeng’s fingers touched the wallpaper and furniture, and a hint of sadness appeared in his eyes. “I spent a long time and saved money for a long time. I even did a lot of research to save money… decorating the house like this bit by bit.”

Jiang Yifeng told Xie Jingshen about the things from his past.

A long story, but it was simple to tell.

He came from an ordinary family. His mother died in a car accident when he was in high school. When he was in college, his father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Jiang Yifeng felt that the conditions in Yan City were better, so he brought his father to Yan City for treatment.

He initially rented this room. After hearing about their situation, the landlady specifically asked for very low rent and provided them with various conveniences.

They sold the house in their hometown and used the money for treatment. His uncle also came to help.

Jiang Yifeng had been spoiled by his parents since he was a child and didn’t know anything. He followed his uncle to learn how to register, get forms, pay fees, tried to communicate with doctors, and tried to recognize medicine.

Later, his father’s condition worsened, and there was not enough money. With the help of his uncle, he raised money from society and successfully raised two million yuan, and had two successful operations.

However, before the third operation could begin, his father passed away.

“Actually, I’m pretty lucky. Even when my family members were sick, I went smoothly all the way. I could meet kind people when renting a house, the doctors tried their best to help when I was seeing a doctor, and everyone helped a lot when I was raising money. It seems like I haven’t encountered anything bad all along.”

When Jiang Yifeng spoke, his eyes were full of smiles.

He really didn’t think it was too miserable. Instead, every time he was sliding down, someone helped him.

Even the original Jiang Kairu was helping him.

Jiang Kairu really ran around and helped him a lot back then, and taught him a lot of things.

“But after my dad passed away, I found that the money wasn’t right. The third operation wasn’t performed, and there was no money spent on postoperative recovery. Logically, there should have been some money left… I was very confused at the time and couldn’t figure out exactly how much was left, but I knew that at least there was money for the third operation. I wanted to return it or donate that money, but he told me it was gone.”

“I didn’t dare to ask him, until I found out that he bought a car, went out to travel, and all the messages he sent were about eating and drinking outside.”
