Chapter Index

Yao Jinglin was not the kind of person who gave up easily. To her, as long as Lu Ziming didn’t explicitly refuse, it meant that she still had a chance to achieve her wish. Moreover, in their past interactions, she had keenly sensed the complex emotions Lu Ziming held deep in her heart for her. It was just that Lu Ziming herself hadn’t realized it yet.

Whether before or after Lu Ziming lost her memory, her attitude towards her was different from that of others. Those several times she stepped forward to risk her life to save her were all subconscious expressions of her true feelings, without any pretense. Yao Jinglin had no doubts about it at all.

So now the core of the problem between the two of them had surfaced—how to make Lu Ziming realize that she cared about herself just as much?

The white sedan sped across the gray-black asphalt road, like lightning streaking through the night sky. However, Yao Jinglin, who was in the driver’s seat at this moment, couldn’t calm down.

What method should she use? She couldn’t help but fall into deep thought.

And although Lu Ziming, who was sitting in the passenger seat, didn’t say anything, she keenly noticed that Yao Jinglin beside her was troubled by something. She cautiously glanced at Yao Jinglin, whose expression was slightly serious, and a question arose in her heart, uncertain about what she was worried about. Was it a problem at work, or was it because of the relationship between the two of them? After all, there were indeed a lot of troubles at work recently that needed her to deal with, and she had been taking the time to visit herself these past few days, even spending the whole day with her today dealing with personal matters.

Was she…too tired? Lu Ziming raised her hand and touched her forehead, thinking, and slowly came to a conclusion…

“Want to come to my place for dinner?” She gently bit her lip and then released it, until the pale pink flesh slowly regained its color. After hesitating for a long time, she still looked at the darkening sky ahead and asked.

“…Hmm?” Yao Jinglin’s mind was still swirling with the problem of how to conquer Lu Ziming. When she suddenly heard the other person’s words, she couldn’t react in time. So she paused for a moment and made an inquiring sound through her nose.

Hearing Yao Jinglin’s question, Lu Ziming thought that she hadn’t understood her words, so she took a deep breath and explained, “The food outside is ultimately not as healthy as homemade food, but I haven’t bought any kitchenware for the new place yet. We can take advantage of the time we go to the supermarket to buy groceries to buy some. I’ll treat you to dinner at my place, how about that?”

That’s right, didn’t they say that to capture a person’s heart, you must first capture their stomach! How could she have not thought of this! Yao Jinglin’s face, which had been expressionless because of her worries, instantly revealed a touch of contemplation. Then she suddenly realized—what a great idea. By cooking and eating together, they could not only enhance their relationship, but also increase the time she spent with Lu Ziming. If she had only planned to eat out as the two of them had discussed before, she would have had to find a way to get herself drunk in order to have a chance to have the responsible Lu Ziming take care of her. But that would make her seem too casual and useless. She still wanted to leave a good impression on Lu Ziming. Since Lu Ziming had proposed such a good plan, how could she not agree?

“Okay!” Yao Jinglin turned her head to look at Lu Ziming, her eyes shining, and readily agreed.

After the two reached an agreement, the white sedan resembled a swimming fish, nimbly weaving through the bustling city traffic. Yao Jinglin’s mood was great, as if she had already seen the dawn of victory beckoning to her. She glanced at Lu Ziming sitting quietly in the passenger seat, and endless tenderness and expectation welled up in her heart.

In the parking lot, Yao Jinglin turned off the engine, but didn’t get out of the car immediately. She sat in the driver’s seat, took a deep breath, and calmed her somewhat uneasy mood. She knew that every step from now on was crucial, and she had to be careful, not letting Lu Ziming notice her true intentions. After all, what she wanted was not just to have dinner with Lu Ziming, she also wanted to take the opportunity to narrow the distance between them and take this relationship one step further.

The two of them walked into the supermarket together. Yao Jinglin pushed the shopping cart, ostensibly picking out ingredients, but in reality, her mind was not on these trivial things at all. She paid attention to Lu Ziming’s every move, and in her heart, she was calculating how to naturally create opportunities for physical contact. She deliberately approached Lu Ziming, and her fingers lightly touched the back of her hand. At that moment, she felt as if she could feel Lu Ziming’s heartbeat accelerating and her body slightly stiffening. Yao Jinglin secretly rejoiced in her heart, but she didn’t dare to show it too obviously, for fear of alarming her prey.

In the following shopping process, Yao Jinglin was like a brilliant hunter, patiently waiting for the prey to walk into the trap on its own. She created “unintentional” physical contact time and time again, and each time she felt Lu Ziming’s reaction become stronger and stronger. She knew that her plan had already succeeded by more than half, and all that was left was how to seize this opportunity and capture Lu Ziming’s heart in one fell swoop.

When the two of them returned fully loaded, Yao Jinglin brought Lu Ziming to the downstairs of her new residence. Lu Ziming, however, looked around at the quiet and elegant surroundings of the neighborhood and seemed slightly surprised—she thought that the temporary residence arranged for her would be similar to where she lived before. Now it seemed that the environment and decoration here were much better than the neighborhood she lived in in Clearwater City.

The two of them carried several bags into the building, took the elevator to the seventh floor. Yao Jinglin took the key that she was originally going to give to Lu Ziming and opened the door in front, turned on the lights, and then stepped aside to let Lu Ziming go in first.

This apartment was a one-bedroom, one-living room layout, plus a kitchen and a bathroom. Although the area was not large, it was enough for one person to live in, and it seemed particularly cozy. Because cleaning had been arranged after the place was decided, even though no one had moved in yet, the entire room remained bright and clean.

Lu Ziming looked around. The simple but stylish decoration, coupled with the well-placed lighting, slightly relaxed her nerves, which had been tense because she had come to an unfamiliar environment.

“This will be your temporary residence from now on. Sit wherever you like, don’t be polite.” Yao Jinglin put the shopping bags on the dining table, and while rolling up her sleeves, she said to Lu Ziming, “Do you need me to help you pack anything? Or should we just start cooking?”

Lu Ziming shook her head, indicating that she didn’t need to pack anything, so she also walked to the dining table and began to take out the ingredients from the bags one by one and sort them out.

The two of them chatted while starting the preparations before cooking. Although Yao Jinglin agreed that this meal would be made for her by Lu Ziming, in order to show off her skills in front of Lu Ziming, she also started preparing the dishes together after obtaining her consent.

When it was time to start cooking, she first helped Lu Ziming put on an apron and sleeves, making Lu Ziming look quite like a chef.

“Well, at least it looks professional!” Yao Jinglin looked at the fully equipped Lu Ziming, nodded in satisfaction, and then covered her mouth and chuckled.

Lu Ziming, who was being sized up and teased by her, blushed slightly, and began to wonder if her plan to thank the other party by cooking was wrong… But after thinking about it, Lu Ziming still had a good idea of her cooking skills. After all, she had been living independently for nearly ten years. In the past, in order to save living expenses, she mostly cooked her own meals, so it could be said that her cooking skills were slowly developed.

So she prepared to skillfully heat the pan and add oil, but before she could start, she was stopped by Yao Jinglin.

“Hey, wait a minute, this…let me tie up your hair for you.” Yao Jinglin opened her palm, and a black hair tie was lying in her palm.

Lu Ziming suddenly raised her hand and touched her hair that had reached her shoulders, only to realize that the hair that she had personally cut short when the disaster first happened had grown long again.

“…Okay.” So she obediently agreed, turned around and leaned her head back, waiting for Yao Jinglin’s actions.

Yao Jinglin tried hard to control the corners of her mouth from tilting up behind her, and gently placed her five fingers on Lu Ziming’s hair.

Not knowing if it was because the nerves in her head were too sensitive, Lu Ziming only felt that Yao Jinglin’s fingers seemed to carry a subtle electric current, gently stroking her hair, causing her body to suddenly tense up after the stimulation—she couldn’t help but recall the feeling of being inadvertently touched by Yao Jinglin in the supermarket, each time causing her body to tremble slightly, as if all her muscles were unconsciously tightening.

What’s…wrong with me? A look of doubt flashed in Lu Ziming’s eyes, and she began to associate this unusual feeling with Yao Jinglin, putting them together to think about.

When she tried to sort out the clues, she realized that every contact between herself and Yao Jinglin was like throwing a pebble into her calm heart lake, stirring up layers of ripples. This feeling was strange and intense, making her unable to ignore it.

So she instantly recalled the days she spent in the hospital recently. Obviously, the physical contact between the medical staff and her during the examination in the hospital was also frequent, but the touch of those people, to her, was like the wind blowing over her skin, fleeting, leaving no warmth, and not arousing any feelings in her.

However, Yao Jinglin’s touch was different. Her fingers only lightly touched the back of her hand. At that moment, she felt as if a current was passing through her body, directly reaching her heart. That feeling was novel and exciting, making her want to feel more.

Lu Ziming began to realize that Yao Jinglin didn’t seem to be an ordinary existence to her. Her smile, her eyes, her every move, had left a deep mark in her heart. She began to wonder if she had special feelings for Yao Jinglin?

This realization made her feel panicked and confused. Because of her indifferent personality, she had always been very ignorant about the word “love”. Even in the past, when she saw young couples loving each other, she couldn’t understand why two people could be so intimate, because she had never had a strong feeling for love. So now she didn’t know how to face this change, and she didn’t know how to deal with this sudden emotion.

Lu Ziming took a deep breath, trying to calm her excited mood. She knew that she needed time to think and sort everything out. This woman, Yao Jinglin, had already occupied a special place in her heart, and this was an undeniable fact. And now, she had to face her feelings squarely and bravely face everything that might happen in the future.
