Love and Exploration in an Interstellar School

After that pleasant weekend, Jiang Wan’yuan eagerly anticipated a new week of school life, especially the time each morning, hoping for more wonderful encounters with Yi Shang.

Monday morning, before the sky was fully light, Jiang Wan’yuan leaped out of bed. She quickly changed into comfortable sportswear, finished washing up, and headed out the door with anticipation. On the streets, the dim yellow streetlights were still on, reflecting the faint starlight on the horizon. The interstellar greenery along the roadside swayed gently in the morning breeze, making subtle sounds, as if whispering secrets of the dawn.

Jiang Wan’yuan jogged along the familiar route, each step with a light rhythm. Just as she ran past a street corner and turned into a quiet path, that familiar figure appeared ahead. Yi Shang was wearing a black tracksuit, simple and neat, her short hair swaying slightly with her pace. Her posture was upright, her steps steady and powerful, in the dim morning light, like a cold and captivating painting.

Jiang Wan’yuan’s eyes lit up instantly, like stars twinkling in the night sky. She quickened her pace, like a cheerful fawn running towards Yi Shang, calling out loudly, “Yi Shang! Good morning!” Her voice broke the silence of the morning, echoing in the street.

Yi Shang heard the call, turned her head, and saw Jiang Wan’yuan running towards her. Her originally stern face softened instantly, a hint of imperceptible tenderness flashed in her eyes, and she responded softly, “Morning.”

Jiang Wan’yuan ran to Yi Shang’s side, jogging slowly alongside her, and said excitedly, “I was thinking maybe I’d run into you again today, it seems we really have a tacit understanding.”

Yi Shang nodded slightly, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, revealing a faint smile, but she didn’t speak. Jiang Wan’yuan was already used to this, she knew that although Yi Shang didn’t talk much, she actually understood everything in her heart.

The two continued to run forward, Jiang Wan’yuan said enthusiastically: “Yi Shang, I carefully pondered the content mentioned in that interstellar plant book again last night, I think we can really study the special fluctuations of that plant in depth, maybe we can make a super awesome scientific research result and help many people.”

Yi Shang still just gave a light “hmm,” but Jiang Wan’yuan knew she was listening carefully. Jiang Wan’yuan didn’t mind, and continued to say to herself: “I was thinking, we can start by collecting more information about this plant, and then find Jing Xiao and Zhang Yao to discuss together, and see how to design an experimental plan. What do you think?”

Yi Shang was silent for a while, thinking about Jiang Wan’yuan’s words, and then said succinctly, “Feasible.”

When running past an interstellar garden, Jiang Wan’yuan suddenly stopped and pointed to a plant that emitted a faint blue light and said, “Yi Shang, look at this flower, its light seems a bit like the kind that can release special fluctuations mentioned in the book, could there be some connection between them?”

Yi Shang stepped forward, squatted down and observed it carefully, and said, “Possibly, but professional testing is needed to determine.” After speaking, she stood up and looked at the time.

Seeing this, Jiang Wan’yuan quickly said, “There’s still time, let’s run for a while.” Yi Shang nodded, and the two began to jog again.

As the sun gradually rose, golden sunlight shone on them. Jiang Wan’yuan felt the warmth of the sun, turned to look at Yi Shang, and said, “Yi Shang, running with you in the morning makes me feel like every morning becomes particularly beautiful.”

Yi Shang glanced at Jiang Wan’yuan, her eyes full of tenderness, and said softly, “Me too.”

The two came to the lake near the school, the lake shimmering in the sunlight. Jiang Wan’yuan looked at the lake and sighed, “Yi Shang, if we could really develop that kind of treatment instrument that can relieve stress and regulate emotions, how meaningful would that be.”

Yi Shang looked at the lake, her eyes firm and said, “It will.” The short two words were full of power, making Jiang Wan’yuan more confident that they could definitely do it.

At this time, the school bell rang faintly. Jiang Wan’yuan looked at the time and exclaimed, “Oh no, we’re going to be late!” The two looked at each other and immediately quickened their pace, running towards the school.

When they got to the school, the two hurriedly separated to go to their classrooms. Jiang Wan’yuan was particularly attentive in class that day, and from time to time she thought about the conversation she had with Yi Shang during their morning run, as well as various ideas about interstellar plant research.

During the break between classes, Jiang Wan’yuan couldn’t wait to find Yi Shang and said, “Yi Shang, I thought of some more details about the experimental plan during class just now, let’s find Jing Xiao and them to discuss it during the lunch break.”

Yi Shang nodded in agreement, “Okay.”

Finally, during lunch break, Jiang Wan’yuan, Yi Shang, Jing Xiao, Zhang Yao, and Lin Jichuan gathered in the school laboratory. Jiang Wan’yuan explained in detail her and Yi Shang’s ideas during the morning run, as well as the initial experimental ideas.

After listening, Jing Xiao excitedly slapped the table and said, “Wow, this idea is so cool! I think we can start by analyzing the growth state of this plant in different environments to see if environmental factors have any impact on its release of special fluctuations.”

Zhang Yao also continued, “That’s right, and then we have to find a way to accurately measure the frequency and intensity of this fluctuation, as well as its specific parameters for resonance with human brain waves. This has to be carefully studied.”

Lin Jichuan frowned and thought for a while, and said, “However, we also have to consider the ethical issues in the experimental process to ensure that it does not cause any harm to the people participating in the experiment. Moreover, the experimental equipment is also a problem, we have to find some high-precision instruments.”

Everyone discussed one after another, the atmosphere was very enthusiastic. Yi Shang listened quietly, occasionally making some concise and key opinions. She looked at the partners who actively participated in the discussion, and a warm current surged in her heart. In this interstellar campus full of fantasy and challenges, having Jiang Wan’yuan and these like-minded friends made her full of confidence in future research.

After the discussion, everyone had clear divisions of labor. Jing Xiao was responsible for contacting the school’s experimental equipment management office to apply for borrowing high-precision measuring instruments; Zhang Yao and Lin Jichuan went to collect more information about interstellar plants, including their growth habits and distribution areas; Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang then began to design specific experimental steps and data recording methods.

In the following days, Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang still ran together every morning. During the morning run, they would exchange research progress from the previous day, and discuss the problems encountered and solutions. Although Yi Shang still didn’t say much, every sentence could hit the point and provide Jiang Wan’yuan with a lot of inspiration.

One morning, Jiang Wan’yuan said to Yi Shang somewhat dejectedly, “Yi Shang, Jing Xiao said that the school’s existing instruments are not precise enough, and may not be able to accurately measure that subtle fluctuation. What should we do?”

Yi Shang thought for a while and said, “Maybe we can contact off-campus research institutions to see if we can borrow their equipment.”

Jiang Wan’yuan’s eyes lit up and said, “That’s right, why didn’t I think of that? Yi Shang, you’re so smart!”

One day, Zhang Yao and Lin Jichuan found a variety similar to the plant they were studying while collecting data, which might interfere with the experimental results. After Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang learned about it, they carefully analyzed the differences between this plant and the target plant during the morning run, and thought about how to eliminate interference in the experiment.

Yi Shang said calmly: “We can be more strict in the selection of experimental samples, only selecting plants that meet specific characteristics. At the same time, in the data analysis stage, we must also consider the impact that this similar plant may bring.”

Jiang Wan’yuan nodded in agreement, “Yeah, let’s do that. With you here, I feel like any problem can be solved.”

As the research deepened, the relationship between Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang also became deeper. They supported each other when facing difficulties, and shared joy when making progress.

However, not everyone supported their research. Some students in the school questioned their research project, and even made sarcastic remarks behind their backs.

“With them, they want to develop a treatment instrument that can regulate emotions? Don’t dream.”

    “That’s right, that’s too whimsical.”

These words reached Jiang Wan’yuan’s ears, she felt a little sad, and ran to Yi Shang and said, “Yi Shang, how can they say that? We are clearly working very hard to do this.”

Yi Shang gently held Jiang Wan’yuan’s hand, looked at her with firm eyes, and said, “Don’t care about what they say, we are not doing research to get their approval, as long as we firmly believe in our direction, we will definitely succeed.”

Jiang Wan’yuan looked at Yi Shang’s firm eyes, the sadness in her heart gradually dissipated, and she nodded vigorously: “Yeah, you’re right, let’s continue to work hard!”

Encouraged by Yi Shang, Jiang Wan’yuan cheered up again. Together with Jing Xiao, Zhang Yao, and Lin Jichuan, they worked harder and devoted themselves to the research.

After countless experiments and data analysis, they finally achieved some important results. The resonance relationship between the special fluctuations released by that interstellar plant and human brain waves gradually became clear, and they were getting closer and closer to success.

On a sunny day, Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang, Jing Xiao, Zhang Yao, and Lin Jichuan gathered in the laboratory again. Looking at the sorted experimental data and preliminary research report in front of them, everyone’s faces were filled with joy and pride.

Jiang Wan’yuan said excitedly: “Yi Shang, we did it! This is the result of everyone’s hard work together.”

Yi Shang looked at Jiang Wan’yuan, her eyes full of tenderness and gratification: “Yeah, we did it.”

Jing Xiao said with a smile, “Haha, let’s see what those who make sarcastic remarks have to say now.”

Zhang Yao and Lin Jichuan also laughed happily.

Every morning, Jiang Wan’yuan and Yi Shang would still run together. Their figures shuttled through the school’s paths and streets, enjoying their beautiful time. Jiang Wan’yuan chirped and talked, while Yi Shang listened quietly, occasionally responding with a few words. Their laughter echoed in the morning air, as if telling one beautiful story after another.
