SYLM Chapter 13
by VolareChapter 13 White Rabbit Creamy Candy
In the Literature office.
Teachers and students were busy with their own tasks, the only sound was the rustling of papers being checked.
At her desk, Gu Wan Jun appeared to be engrossed in marking the morning’s short language quizzes, but her eyes and ears were actually focused on the two figures checking papers in the center of the office.
The moment Qin Hao Yang got close enough to talk to Chen Lu, Gu Wan Jun’s alert and probing gaze would immediately sweep over.
No wonder teachers were so accurate at catching early romances back in school; the subtle expressions of students were so obvious. Qin Hao Yang might as well have written “I like Chen Lu” all over his face.
The ink in the pen she was using to mark the quizzes was almost dry. Recalling the innocent, moved look in Qin Hao Yang’s eyes when he looked at Chen Lu earlier, Gu Wan Jun sighed inwardly.
What exactly is going on with these two kids?
Is Qin Hao Yang just in love with Chen Lu? Or have they already confessed their feelings to each other?
If they have confessed…
Gu Wan Jun shook her head decisively.
That possibility is almost zero.
Firstly, Chen Lu didn’t even look at Qin Hao Yang the entire time. More importantly, for some reason, Gu Wan Jun didn’t think Chen Lu was the type to have an early romance.
Or, even if Chen Lu were to have an early romance, Gu Wan Jun didn’t think she’d be interested in a little boy like Qin Hao Yang…
These baseless speculations popped into her head. Realizing she was getting off track, Gu Wan Jun rubbed her temples, a wry smile appearing on her lips.
In any case, Qin Hao Yang’s crush on Chen Lu was almost certain. If there were a regret pill that would allow her to choose again, Gu Wan Jun definitely wouldn’t have made Qin Hao Yang the Literature Representative.
Wasn’t she indirectly providing opportunities for students to start early romances?
The more Gu Wan Jun thought about it, the more of a headache she got.
…
Having served as a class representative for several semesters, Chen Lu was experienced, organized, and efficient. Before the bell rang, she had finished checking all the stacks of papers on the floor.
After combining them with the stacks of answer sheets that Qin Hao Yang had checked, Chen Lu neatly placed the exam papers and corresponding answer sheets on the bookshelf labeled “Class 12,” explaining to Qin Hao Yang in simple terms what to do next.
“Just take the sets of papers in order when you need them. I’ve labeled everything with sticky notes.”
“Okay…”
Their eyes met, and Qin Hao Yang suddenly looked away, lowering his head. Chen Lu was puzzled, thinking he hadn’t understood, and asked in a businesslike tone, “Any questions?”
“Huh?”
“Did I not explain something clearly?”
“Oh, no, no questions. It’s all very clear…” Qin Hao Yang quickly explained.
“Alright.”
Chen Lu ended the slightly awkward conversation with a single word.
She knew that Qin Hao Yang was known for being slow, but everyone has a different personality, which is normal.
It seemed that Gu Wan Jun would have to put in some extra effort in the future when it came to checking papers.
For some reason, Chen Lu was already starting to worry about Gu Wan Jun. Having completed her task, she turned to tell Gu Wan Jun that the papers were all checked, only to find Gu Wan Jun propping up her temples, staring intently at them.
Rather than looking, Chen Lu felt the gaze upon her was more like observation.
Remembering Gu Wan Jun’s little gesture of pinching her fingers before they checked the papers, Chen Lu couldn’t help but feel her face heat up. She realized that this new teacher seemed to be constantly breaking her preconceived notions about teachers.
How could there be such a teacher, and why did she have to be the one to encounter her?
…
Seeing that the papers and answer sheets had been checked and neatly arranged, Gu Wan Jun pulled out a handful of candy from her drawer and handed them to Chen Lu and Qin Hao Yang.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Gu Wan Jun gave the candy to the two of them. She gave Qin Hao Yang hawthorn hard candies and Chen Lu her favorite White Rabbit Creamy Candy.
Although Gu Wan Jun didn’t intend to do this deliberately, her left and right hands had sorted the candies before her brain could even process it.
Chen Lu should like it, right?
Gu Wan Jun felt a flutter in her heart.
…
The white cartoon rabbit packaging came into view.
Does Gu Wan Jun like White Rabbit Creamy Candy?
Chen Lu pursed her lips, took the candy, and thanked the teacher, along with Qin Hao Yang.
…
Logically, Gu Wan Jun should have let the two return to class after checking the papers, but perhaps because Gu Wan Jun was overly concerned about their relationship, she noticed that Qin Hao Yang seemed to glance at Chen Lu beside him, looking as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t.
Why does he keep looking at Chen Lu?
Gu Wan Jun frowned slightly and couldn’t help but ask what was wrong.
Thinking she was being asked, Chen Lu was about to reply subconsciously, but when she looked up, she realized that Gu Wan Jun wasn’t looking at her when she asked the question, but at the Literature Representative, Qin Hao Yang.
Her thick eyelashes fluttered quickly, as if pricked by needles. Chen Lu squeezed the creamy candy in her hand, lowered her eyes, and said nothing.
The pre-class bell rang, and there was no time to start the unstarted topic. Chen Lu and Qin Hao Yang said goodbye to Gu Wan Jun and prepared to return to class.
Just as the two of them left the office, Qin Hao Yang tentatively spoke:
“Chen Lu, do you want to trade with me?”
“What?”
“The candy. I remember you don’t seem to like sweets very much. Mine is hawthorn flavored, not that sweet.”
Qin Hao Yang’s tone was cautious. He spoke while observing Chen Lu’s expression, afraid of making her unhappy.
Hearing this, Chen Lu immediately turned to look at the office door that had just closed, making sure that Gu Wan Jun couldn’t hear, and then replied in a businesslike tone, “No need.”
She wasn’t planning on eating the candy anyway. Whatever Gu Wan Jun gave her was what she would take.
The pre-class bell was about to finish ringing, and the two said no more.
To be precise, Chen Lu didn’t give Qin Hao Yang a chance.
After the candy exchange topic, Chen Lu used the excuse of being late for class and ran downstairs all the way.
…
In the office.
Whether it was because she was too concerned about their relationship or intentionally paying attention to something else, Gu Wan Jun heard the gist of the conversation between the two as they left.
But she only heard Qin Hao Yang say that Chen Lu didn’t like sweets. Just as she was about to hear how Chen Lu would respond, the office door closed.
He even knows what she likes to eat, showing that Qin Hao Yang has really put in effort for Chen Lu.
And she had just indirectly helped Qin Hao Yang create an opportunity that shouldn’t exist.
Gu Wan Jun frowned unconsciously, feeling somewhat annoyed.
The drawer beside her wasn’t completely closed. There were already few White Rabbit Creamy Candies to begin with. After giving Chen Lu a small handful, there were only two or three left.
But Gu Wan Jun was in no mood to eat candy at the moment.
