QWAPMP Chapter 92
by VolareChapter 92 Mermaid Comes Ashore
After they entered the South Sea, Yan Ye felt a gaze watching him.
He turned his head helplessly and met the eyes of the gaze’s owner. Yan Ye knew this was Song Qiuyi’s signal that he wanted Kelisi to leave.
“Don’t worry, I didn’t lie to you. I’ll have Kelisi leave now.” Yan Ye kept his word. He went to the deck and found Kelisi.
Song Qiuyi watched the two people talk through the cabin door, his face expressionless. It wasn’t until he saw Kelisi jump into the sea with his own eyes that his expression showed a hint of emotion.
Yan Ye watched Kelisi leave. Not long after, several live and kicking crayfish appeared on the deck.
They were thrown up from the sea.
Yan Ye lowered his head to look. Kelisi surfaced, cupped her hands into a trumpet shape, and shouted loudly in their direction, “Goodbye, I’ll miss you.”
With that, she waved her arm and dove underwater again.
For creatures like mermaids, it’s only safe when they dive underwater and are not discovered by humans.
“Goodbye,” Yan Ye said with a warm smile. The sea breeze of the South Sea swept across the surface, carrying the news of the guest who had traveled a long distance to a certain corner.
Song Qiuyi didn’t know when he also stood on the deck, his hand hanging by his side enclosed in a pair of warm palms.
“How about I make you fried rice with the crayfish Kelisi gave us?” Yan Ye asked, knowing full well that the person beside him would definitely not refuse, but he still wanted to ask.
As expected, Song Qiuyi said okay. The two of them picked up the crayfish on the deck together. Their fingers touched, and Song Qiuyi lowered his head and watched for a long while. He leaned forward and, under Yan Ye’s teasing gaze, bit the mermaid’s lips in front of him and slowly savored them.
The weather after the storm was unexpectedly good, with blue skies and white clouds. This weather was like a person’s mood.
Song Qiuyi looked at the crayfish in the bucket and subconsciously thought of the female mermaid who had just left. He turned back, looked at the sea surface where seabirds with red feet skimmed by, and his lips lifted slightly, “Goodbye.”
Owen was the best swimmer on the entire Silver Sand Island. He could often dive into areas other people couldn’t reach and dangerous hidden reefs.
There would be many good things in the sea after a typhoon. Unlike others who just picked things up on the beach, he dived alone to the seabed far from Silver Sand Island, and thus he always returned with a full load, attracting the envy and jealousy of many people.
If someone were to dive to the seabed with Owen, they would find that Owen’s skin, which usually frightened them, shimmered in the water, looking very beautiful.
Owen filled the fish basket on his back and only realized he had swum too far when he came back to his senses. He swam to the surface to get his bearings and spotted a huge ship.
Owen just glanced at it, calmly withdrew his gaze, and dived back into the sea.
He didn’t know that this ship had brought him a huge surprise.
Because he had swum too far, by the time Owen returned, it was getting dark. When he got home, someone was already waiting for him.
“Look, he’s back.”
“He still dares to come back? This kind of person can’t stay on our island anymore.”
“Exactly, my son must have been harmed by him last time. Do you believe it now?”
Owen heard a cacophony of noisy voices. Before he could figure out what was going on, a barrage of curses came at him.
Finally, everyone got tired of cursing and, seeing that he didn’t speak, an older man stepped forward, “Owen, where did you go today? Why are you back so late?”
“He’s guilty and doesn’t dare to come back, where else could he go?” a woman with slanted eyes said sarcastically.
“You shut up first and listen to him,” the old man scolded the woman.
Owen swept his gaze indifferently over everyone, “Is something wrong? I went foraging by the sea.”
He placed the fish basket on his back on the ground, as if to silence the crowd.
The old man looked at him, his eyes complicated. He told Owen about the incident that happened on the island today when a child rushed into the sea by the beach and got into trouble.
“After that child woke up, he kept saying that some monster was dragging him into the sea and wanted to eat him.”
Hearing the word “monster,” Owen lifted an eyebrow, “What does that have to do with me?”
The old man cleared his throat, “That child said the monster’s skin is the same as yours.”
So, that was why these people were looking for Owen.
Owen’s eyes flickered, silently confronting these people.
“Since you say it wasn’t you, we’ll believe you for now. But if there really is some monster in the sea, for the safety of the children, everyone should clarify things.”
“Tomorrow, you and the men on the island will go together to the place where the monster appeared to take a look. The women and children will stay at home tomorrow and are not allowed to go out.”
After the old man finished speaking this sentence, he waited for Owen to nod and agree, and then the crowd slowly dispersed.
At night, Kelisi surfaced, blew a small string of bubbles, and looked around curiously with her blue eyes.
It seemed as if there was any movement, she would immediately dive back into the water.
This was the second time she had been so close to a human inhabited place. Also, she had seen a human child during the day; that child was so timid.
Kelisi had completely failed to realize that she had scared someone during the day and was still full of curiosity and observation about her surroundings.
Unbeknownst to her, in the dark night, a pair of eyes were also observing her.
After confirming that there was no one around, Kelisi flicked her tail out of the water. Water splashed from her tail, revealing the mermaid tail that shocked Owen.
Owen’s pupils contracted, and a low murmur escaped his lips, “A mermaid’s tail…”
As soon as the sound came out, the mermaid’s ear fins gently flapped. With a splash, the mermaid facing away from Owen disappeared before his eyes.
Owen gazed at the sea surface where the mermaid had disappeared and said the mermaid’s name, “Kelisi.”
He hadn’t recognized her wrong, and he wouldn’t. That mermaid was Kelisi, and her tail was unique; the tail fin had a shape like a moon.
“You know me?” Kelisi’s voice sounded from behind Owen. She tilted her head, puzzled.
Owen didn’t turn around immediately, “Why are you here?” Mermaids weren’t suitable for getting too close to humans; it was very dangerous for them.
Seeing that he didn’t answer her, Kelisi dived back into the sea.
After a while, she broke the surface facing Owen. They were very close, and because they were face to face, Kelisi recognized her friend Owen, “Are you Owen?”
Owen’s calm broke at the moment Kelisi recognized him. They hadn’t seen each other for twenty years, and he had thought Kelisi wouldn’t recognize him.
Owen tried to force a smile. Kelisi’s eyes changed, from happy to shocked and disbelieving.
Owen was a mermaid, how did he have human legs? And why were his legs exactly the same as the human who saved her back then?
The five claw marks on his leg were left there out of fear when she was afraid back then.
Twenty years ago, Kelisi, who was entangled in a human fishing net, was very scared. When someone approached her, she thought that person wanted to harm her, so she directly used her sharp claws to leave five deep scratches on that person’s leg.
Kelisi needed an explanation. Owen couldn’t help but stroke her hair, “Kelisi, you scared a human child here today. They will come here to catch you tomorrow morning. Will you leave this sea area tonight, okay?”
“I will leave, but you don’t need to explain your legs to me?” Kelisi’s eyes were troubled, and she bit her lip, “Also, the person who saved me was you, wasn’t it?”
Owen looked at her stubborn appearance, nodded, and admitted it.
Kelisi slapped the sea surface with her tail, splashing a lot of water on Owen’s face. Gritting her teeth, every word she spoke trembled, “Do you know that I’ve been looking for the person who saved me for twenty years, but I never thought that person would be you?”
Owen was startled. He hadn’t expected, and wouldn’t have expected, someone to look for him for twenty years and never give up.
The night sea breeze was slightly cool. Kelisi’s tears uncontrollably slipped from her blue eyes. She raised her hand to wipe them, feeling the coolness on her hand.
Kelisi didn’t want to cry in front of Owen. With a difficult expression, she dived into the sea and left, leaving Owen at a loss.
