    Chapter 88: Mermaid Comes Ashore

Although the mermaid’s self-healing was strong, she hadn’t woken up for a while, and they couldn’t stay out of the water for too long. Yan Ye wanted to put Klis into his water tank, but was met with Song Qiuyi’s strong refusal.

“That’s the water tank I made for you, she can’t go in,” Song Qiuyi said coldly and heartlessly.

Even though the mermaid had been out of the water for two hours, any longer and she might die from dehydration, Song Qiuyi was determined not to let her into the water tank.

Yan Ye was confused for a second. Upon seeing the possessiveness in Song Qiuyi’s eyes, he understood.

Guessing that Song Qiuyi was unwilling for Klis to stay in the same water tank as himself, Yan Ye chose to indulge Song Qiuyi, not wanting to make him unhappy over such a small matter. So he had Song Qiuyi get a bucket and put Klis’s tail in the bucket.

Klis woke up an hour later. The first person she saw was Song Qiuyi. Because he was human, she immediately thought of the humans who had almost killed her, and her reaction was particularly fierce. Her fish tail suddenly sprang up, flicking the bucket that had just been soaking her tail flying.

She didn’t immediately reveal that she could speak human language. Instead, she bared her teeth and glared at Song Qiuyi, revealing a pair of sharp claws.

Song Qiuyi wasn’t surprised. He thought to himself, this is the normal reaction of a mermaid seeing a human, unlike Yan Ye, who looks calm no matter what he sees.

Klis assumed a stance ready to attack at any moment. If she were fast, accurate, and ruthless, this human before her could be pierced by her claws.

Klis’s eyes were full of wildness. Song Qiuyi regretted not tying up this mermaid.

    “Klis, calm down.”

A familiar voice came from behind Klis, entering her ears. Her ear fins gently flapped, and she turned her head to see a large piece of glass. The next second, her eyes widened. Her friend, Yan Ye, was enclosed inside this glass.

Klis rushed over. Before Yan Ye could say anything else, her tail heavily slammed against the glass.

The glass didn’t move at all. Perhaps it was because Klis’s tail hadn’t fully recovered, or perhaps Klis’s strength was not as great as Yan Ye’s and she couldn’t make cracks in the glass like Yan Ye could.

Although she didn’t make any cracks, Song Qiuyi was still angry. “Tell your friend to stop going crazy, or don’t blame me for being impolite.”

Yan Ye shrugged helplessly and said to the still confused and angry Klis, “Stop hitting it. If it breaks, where will I live later? Also, you have to thank him first, he saved you!”

Klis’s tail, which she had raised again, froze because of his words. Some fragments flashed continuously in her mind. She remembered that she was being hunted by humans and almost died.

Humans saved her? Klis couldn’t believe it. Then she thought of the pair of legs she saw ten years ago and questioned, “Did he really save me?”

Yan Ye nodded. Seeing Song Qiuyi walk towards the water tank without a word, he swam over to the young man and explained, “Klis just woke up and doesn’t know anything. She might have thought you were with the people who caught her.”

Song Qiuyi glanced at Klis coldly and scoffed. He disliked this mermaid; she had stolen Yan Ye’s attention.

After Klis heard and understood, she immediately apologized to her benefactor, “Sorry, I thought you were with the humans who wanted to catch me.” That was an instinctive reaction.

Song Qiuyi neither said he accepted her apology nor that he wouldn’t explain. “Other humans found you?”

If ordinary people discovered mermaids, if the news spread, who knows how many believing people would go out to sea to catch mermaids.

If the people from that research institute heard the news, would they think it was him? And then come to this sea area.

Song Qiuyi thought for a while and decided they couldn’t stay in this sea area any longer.

Klis nodded vigorously, only feeling unlucky to always be discovered by humans and nearly caught twice. “They cast many nets into the sea and also prepared a very powerful weapon. That weapon hit my fish tail and almost killed me. If my willpower hadn’t been strong, I would have become the unlucky mermaid in the mermaid story!”

When Yan Ye heard Klis’s last sentence, he knew that Klis had really finished reading the book he gave her and was very resistant to coming ashore, having lost her previous desire to do so.

Yan Ye smiled and said, “Just don’t be as foolish as the mermaid in the book.”

Klis pouted, thinking she wouldn’t be that foolish. “By the way, Yan Ye, weren’t you going to find your own territory? Why are you on a human ship?”

They hadn’t been apart for long, and Klis still remembered what Yan Ye said when they parted.

“Because this ship is my territory,” Yan Ye misled Klis. Explaining to Klis why he hadn’t gone to find a territory would only be more troublesome. It was better just to say this.

“Can this ship be a territory?” Klis asked curiously. She had never seen a mermaid use a ship as their territory. The tribe members would hide far away when they saw human ships. How could anyone use a ship as a territory?

Song Qiuyi sat quietly next to them, not exposing Yan Ye’s lie.

“Yes, but using a ship as a territory is very dangerous. Don’t learn from me,” Yan Ye smiled. He didn’t want other mermaids to learn from him and use ships as territories in the future. If that really happened, they would face the danger of being discovered and captured for research by humans.

Klis shook her head. She loved the sea. Although ships were also on the sea, they were too small for her. They weren’t as big as the territories in the sea.

Yan Ye felt relieved seeing that she didn’t like it. “Where did you encounter humans?”

Klis said, “Cardacy Sea Area. I was discovered by them as soon as I got close to that sea area. This is very strange!”

Yan Ye and Song Qiuyi exchanged glances. When Klis said it was strange that she was discovered as soon as she approached, they both simultaneously thought this was the research institute’s ship trying to catch them.

Klis hadn’t finished. “I swam very deep, but they still found me.”

The truth was revealed. They were discovered by Song Qiuyi in a similar way before.

Song Qiuyi spoke in a deep voice, “I’m going to start the ship now.” They had to leave this place as soon as possible to avoid being chased.

Yan Ye nodded. Being captured by the research institute versus staying here with Song Qiuyi, he would naturally choose the latter.

Klis thought that the Cardacy Sea Area wasn’t too far from here. Afraid of being discovered by those humans again, she didn’t want to leave the ship temporarily. She asked Yan Ye if she could stay in his territory for a few days.

Yan Ye didn’t dare let Klis go either, afraid she would run into their fishing nets again, so he agreed.

Klis looked at him very gratefully. “Yan Ye, you really are my lucky god.”

The ship was slowly changing direction. Klis, being on a human ship for the first time, jumped out of the bucket curiously, pressing her cheek against the window, her face full of wonder.
