    Chapter Seventy-Four Merman Comes Ashore

Time flew by, Yan Ye had been living in the same room with Song Qiuyi for ten days. They could already see other ships and cargo ships on the sea surface, which meant they were getting closer to land.

Song Qiuyi stayed in the merman’s room every day. He would only leave to get food for it; the rest of the time, they were together.

A diary with only a few pages of records was almost filled up by him. He meticulously recorded every detail of his daily observation of the merman.

This evening, as Song Qiuyi had just finished recording and was about to sleep, Yan Ye pretended to be uncertain, “After reaching land, what will happen to me? Where will you send me?”

After ten days of peaceful life, it was time to find something to do! His relationship with Song Qiuyi could no longer remain so cold, otherwise the other person would truly just treat him as a creature to be studied.

He should stir up Song Qiuyi’s possessiveness towards him, just like in the previous several worlds.

Song Qiuyi hadn’t fallen asleep yet. He opened his eyes and said in a cool voice, “I will send you to the research institute.”

“Research institute? What kind of place is that?” Yan Ye showed a curious expression, his arms wrapped around his chest, and his glittering, agile tail flipped forward.

Song Qiuyi didn’t explain what the research institute was, but said thoughtfully, “You’ll know when you get there.”

He couldn’t tell Yan Ye what the research institute was yet.

“Then, after arriving at the research institute, will we still live together like this?”

The deep, slightly husky male voice carried a hint of anticipation. This reminded Song Qiuyi of the spaces where the studied creatures in the research institute stayed; there had never been a case where a creature lived in the same room as a researcher.

Yan Ye’s question made him fall into thought and temporarily unable to answer.

Song Qiuyi didn’t answer immediately. Yan Ye knew he was wavering inside. The probing for today would end here. He swam back to the innermost part of the water tank, his voice soft and light, “I’m going to sleep. Good night!”

The next day was the same as usual. Song Qiuyi brought the lively fish that Cliff had just caught from the shore to Yan Ye to eat. Before pouring it into the water tank, Yan Ye spoke up first, “Can I have something else to eat?”

Song Qiuyi put down the bucket, “You don’t like fish?”

A merman lives in the ocean, wouldn’t it like fish?

Yan Ye explained, “Eating it every day gets boring.” If he was in the ocean, maybe he could catch some other marine creatures to eat; anyway, he wouldn’t just eat fish every day.

Song Qiuyi asked, “Then what do you want to eat?”

Yan Ye stretched out a slender finger, pointing in the direction of Song Qiuyi’s breakfast, the toasted bread.

Song Qiuyi asked cautiously, “Can you eat this?”

Yan Ye nodded, “I can eat anything you humans can eat!”

Hearing him say this, Song Qiuyi walked over, brought the bread to the water tank, and just as he raised his hand to throw it in, Yan Ye called out to him, “Wait a minute.”

Song Qiuyi paused his movement, looking at him in confusion.

Yan Ye swam upwards, “I don’t want to eat wet bread. Open the top of the water tank so I can stick my head and hands out.”

Song Qiuyi looked up at the top, pursed his lips without speaking, just opened a small feeding port, tore off a small piece of bread, and reached it in, not letting go immediately.

Yan Ye looked at the pale and thin wrist in front of him, thinking, ‘I could crush the bones inside with a pinch.’

It wasn’t that he didn’t understand what Song Qiuyi was doing; he was just waiting for Song Qiuyi to speak.

Song Qiuyi waited for a while, thinking the merman didn’t understand what he meant, and explained lightly, “You don’t need to open the top, you can eat dry bread like this too.” He could just feed it.

Yan Ye slowly swam towards his hand, bit off the bread in Song Qiuyi’s hand. His teeth were too sharp, accidentally piercing his finger pad and leaving a drop of blood.

Song Qiuyi retracted his finger indifferently, tore off another piece of bread and offered it. A warm sensation came from his finger. Song Qiuyi’s eyes behind his glasses were full of shock; he could feel a warm tongue gently licking the spot where his finger had been pierced.

    Why did he do that?

Song Qiuyi, startled, drew his finger back, his eyes bewildered.

Yan Ye swallowed the bread and explained to him, “A merman’s saliva helps wounds heal.”

Song Qiuyi lowered his head to look at his finger; it really wasn’t bleeding anymore.

It seems, after returning to the research institute, they could also extract some merman saliva.

Yan Ye didn’t know he was causing trouble for himself. He smiled and raised his finger towards the unfinished bread, signaling Song Qiuyi to continue feeding him.

After breakfast, Song Qiuyi took his diary again and began writing down his new discoveries about the merman today.

They can eat human food, and their saliva has a strong healing effect…

Cliff drove the steamboat for twelve days before finally bringing it into Tael Port late at night when it was quiet. Research institute personnel were already waiting for them at the port.

As this mission was executed in secret, the people who came were all professor-level researchers from the research institute. The first thing they wanted to do when they saw the steamboat was to go up and see the merman, but they were stopped.

Song Qiuyi did not allow any mistakes to happen in this place. When the ship reached a place with a signal, he had already hired security personnel to escort them to the research institute.

The water tank was completely covered with a black cloth, so no one could see what was inside. Just like that, the water tank followed Song Qiuyi into a transport vehicle escorted by six armed security personnel. It took five hours to reach the research institute.

The place to confine Yan Ye had already been prepared at the research institute. After Song Qiuyi personally sent Yan Ye there, he received an order from above to attend a meeting.

This time, Tony and Duke returned walking with their heads held high. Without a doubt, they received envious looks from their colleagues. Promotion and salary increase were also within reach.

A colleague who was close to Tony said enviously, “It would be great if Professor Song had brought me this time.”

Others nodded in agreement. They had all forgotten how they had opposed Song Qiuyi going to capture the merman back then.

“Tony, can you take us to see the merman?” Mark’s eyes shone with curiosity about the merman.

“Yes, yes, yes, our rank isn’t high enough, so we can’t research this merman together, but just let us see it once.”

“Exactly, Tony, just take us to see it once. After all, you were a participant in capturing this merman, it should be possible, right!”

“If you’re afraid Professor Song will find out, we can sneak a look and leave immediately.”

Although this group wasn’t as obsessed with merman research as Song Qiuyi, they were very eager to personally see a creature that only existed in legends.

Tony wanted to refuse, but couldn’t resist the requests of so many colleagues, “Are you sure you’ll just take one look and leave immediately?”

Instantly, three or four people nodded quickly, “Just one look.”

“Alright, then follow me.” Tony looked behind to make sure no one else was there before daring to lead them to the laboratory where the merman was confined.
