Chapter 69 The Merfolk Comes Ashore

Klis had just found a reef to rest on when a large coral tree cast down a shadow. Thinking the squid had chased her there, she was just about to launch an attack when she saw a graceful black fish tail. The scales on the tail shimmered like black gems humans spoke of.

Klis had once witnessed a shipwreck. When the huge waves capsized the vessel, she heard a female shouting, “My gems!”

Seeing humans still thinking about something called ‘gems’ even as they were dying, Klis found the gems out of curiosity, only to discover they were just some good-looking black stones.

In the time it took her to be momentarily stunned, Yan Ye had already swum out from behind the coral. Only then did he carefully examine the female lead.

At the same time, after seeing that it was her own kind, Klis also examined him. It only took a second for Klis to become extremely frustrated.

What did she see? She saw a merfolk more beautiful than her. It was bad enough that her beautiful blue fish tail couldn’t compare to his, but how could she lose in face as well?

Having traveled so many oceans, Klis had never seen a merfolk better looking than herself.

“Hi, I’m a little jealous of you,” Klis said with a frown.

Yan Ye thought he had misheard. He had completely unexpected to get such a sentence upon meeting the female lead for the first time.

However, he looked at her and didn’t see any malice in the female lead’s eyes, only admiration.

Just from the appearance of this merfolk, Klis recognized that he wasn’t the master of this sea territory. “You’re not Ouwen, how are you here?”

Facing the female lead’s question, Yan Ye was very calm. “Like you, I hid here because of the storm.”

“Is that so? Then you should leave quickly. This is Ouwen’s territory, and he doesn’t like others entering his waters,” Klis kindly reminded him, also understanding her friend, even though they hadn’t met for twenty years.

“I’ll leave when the storm is over, what about you?” Yan Ye asked. In just two sentences, he had already drawn closer to Klis and began to extract information without hesitation.

He needed to stop Klis from going ashore. After all, merfolk should live in the ocean; it was their home.

Klis, still unaware that she was being questioned, began to talk about her plans. “Since I’m already here, I plan to go see my friend.”

Yan Ye asked, “Is he here too?”

Klis flicked her blue fish tail. “Yes, his name is Ouwen, and he’s the master of this sea territory.”

Male merfolk leave their families upon reaching adulthood, find a sea territory to live in, and regard themselves as the masters of that territory.

Ouwen had left here twenty years ago, and Klis didn’t know. Yan Ye couldn’t tell her directly. “But I haven’t found any other merfolk since I came here.”

Klis was silent for a moment. She also thought it was strange. If there were other male merfolk invading, it was impossible for Ouwen not to sense it and then come to drive away the other party.

Just as they were both silent, a loud noise came from overhead. Immediately after, a long, thick iron chain was thrown down from above, plunging into the sand and stirring up the surrounding water into a murky mess.

That was a human anchor used for stopping ships. Klis recognized it. She said to Yan Ye, “It’s a human ship! Let’s go quickly!”

Looking at the merfolk swimming away ahead of him, Yan Ye couldn’t deny that she was very wary, but this also couldn’t stop her from being lovestruck. If she believed the male supporting character’s words, she would lower her guard and follow him away from the ocean.

Once merfolk leave the water, they are lambs to be slaughtered.

The storm hadn’t ended yet, but Yan Ye and Klis briefly separated.

Klis wanted to go to other parts of this sea territory to see if she could find her friend.

Yan Ye sincerely wished she could find Ouwen, which would simplify many things. Although he knew this was impossible, he still watched Klis leave.

Klis swam away, but Yan Ye swam towards the surface. The male supporting character’s ship could accurately find this place, proving that they must have something related to the female lead in their possession. Now that the female lead had swum away, to prevent them from chasing her, he thought it necessary to give the male supporting character a small “surprise.”

Just as Yan Ye expected, Song Qiuyi saw the radar’s red dot change direction and wanted to tell Kliff to chase, but in the next second, he found that the radar suddenly had another red dot appear.

Just as Song Qiuyi, puzzled, walked out of the ship’s cabin, he saw a giant black tail leap out of the waves, plunging into the seabed the next second.

The scene from those two seconds was as if he had seen wrong; it was too unbelievable.

Song Qiuyi rarely had great emotional fluctuations. Only at this moment did he feel his heart pounding madly for the scene of those two seconds. If his emotions hadn’t been clear, he would have even wanted to jump into the seabed to pursue that merfolk.

Song Qiuyi let the rain wet his face, his gaze fixed on the turbulent sea surface. He thought, he must catch this merfolk, peel off its scales piece by piece with a sharp scalpel…

Unbeknownst to him, while Song Qiuyi’s gaze was fixed on the sea surface, someone was also raising their head, looking upwards through the seawater, taking in his every move.

Perhaps it was due to the joy of meeting again, or perhaps because emotions had developed, Yan Ye really wanted to drag the person into the seabed and have a deep exchange with him.

But he held back, and his lips curved into a smile. “What a lunatic!”

This sentence was said about Song Qiuyi, and it was Yan Ye’s evaluation of him at that moment.

The ship overhead didn’t leave but instead began casting nets. Nets were thrown down from all directions, one after another. Yan Ye’s mouth twitched as he watched. With the male supporting character casting nets like this, it was no wonder the female lead would be caught by him.

Yan Ye used his agile movements to avoid these nets. Just as he wanted to dive into the deeper seabed, a splash of blue entered his line of sight.

Klis was thrashing around, trying to break free from these damnable fishing nets.

Sure enough, she had been careless. If she had known humans were here, she should have been more careful, instead of getting tangled in fishing nets like she did back then.

Klis tried to use her sharp fingernails to cut through the fishing nets, but the surrounding nets were all converging on her from the same direction, making it even harder for her to break free.

“These hateful things, let me go quickly,” Klis said angrily, her tail bent because the fishing nets were slowly tightening around her, making it difficult to exert force.

By the time Yan Ye discovered her and rushed to her side, the fishing nets wrapped around Klis were being dragged upwards.

Klis’s eyes lit up when she saw Yan Ye. “Help me, I’m tangled in this damnable fishing net.”

There was more than one layer of fishing net wrapped around Klis. It would indeed take some time for Yan Ye to free her now.

Klis looked up at the continuously rising fishing net, her heart panicking, her hands constantly tearing at the net.

“Later, I’ll go up and cut the ropes of the fishing net for you. You just swim straight towards the deep sea. Don’t worry about the fishing nets wrapped around you for now, okay?” Yan Ye said seriously, a fish bone knife appearing in his hand.

Klis nodded, not asking any more questions, as there wasn’t much time left now.

Yan Ye swam upwards along the direction the fishing net was being pulled. Without needing to surface, he could see the ropes integrated with the fishing net, one by one. As long as he cut these, Klis would be temporarily safe.
