    Chapter 64: Showing Affection—Wasn’t That Your Initiative? I Thought…

Yu Shuli didn’t quite believe that Wei Yan would personally cook. Many gentlemen in Da Liang prided themselves on staying away from the kitchen. Therefore, Yu Shuli always felt that his words were a trick of some sort.

Wei Yan smiled, “What’s so difficult about cooking?”

Yu Shuli looked unconvinced, “But you never mentioned you knew how to cook all these years! You even kept it from me!”

Wei Yan raised an eyebrow at him, “I wanted to tell you, but someone stood me up that day.”

Yu Shuli “ah’ed,” exclaiming, “So, you cooked yourself on your birthday?!” He shook his head in annoyance, muttering, “If I had known, why would I have run away?!”

“Meeting the parents for the first time, it’s understandable to be uncomfortable.”

Yu Shuli suddenly jumped up, “What meeting the parents!”

Wei Yan chuckled softly, calmly appeasing him, “Alright, not the parents, meeting the in-laws.”

Yu Shuli pinched his arm hard.

Wei Yan’s expression didn’t change, he smiled and looked at Dong Siwen, “Please, Miss Dong.”

Dong Siwen also curved her lips into a smile, “I don’t think Prime Minister Wei is kind enough to cook specifically for me.” She took a step, following, “But it’s alright to take a look, at least you wouldn’t dare poison me in front of Ji’an.”

Inside the kitchen were laid out about ten dishes, some simple congee and side dishes, some presentable main courses, with both fish and meat, looking and smelling delicious.

The three of them sat down, Yu Shuli in the middle, serving food to both sides.

“Siwen, you’ve suffered, eat more to replenish yourself!”

“Wei Yan, you worked hard cooking, you eat more too.”

Dong Siwen chuckled, using her chopsticks to pick up a piece of fish from her bowl, looking at Yu Shuli, “Are you using me as an excuse to show your generosity? Speaking of which, it seems like you, Ji’an, have never cooked either, right?”

Yu Shuli, having been exposed, narrowed his eyes, “Eat it or don’t! This young master’s skills are meant to be proven on the battlefield, I don’t have time to mess around with pots and pans in the kitchen.”

    The little cat was angry.

Dong Siwen smiled and shook her head, smoothing his fur, and put the fish in her mouth.

Yu Shuli’s expectant gaze turned to Wei Yan again.

Wei Yan calmly pushed away the same piece of fish that Yu Shuli had put in his bowl, selecting two green vegetables from the side of the bowl, and slowly ate them.

Seeing that he ate it himself, Dong Siwen let down her guard, swallowing the fish.

Who knew that as soon as it entered her mouth, her entire face turned red, and she spat the remaining fish onto the table with a “bah!”

“Prime Minister Wei, are you really trying to kill me for my money?” She hurriedly grabbed for the teacup, swallowing the hot tea without waiting for it to cool down.

Yu Shuli was completely baffled, seeing her suddenly drinking water so exaggeratedly, he quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”

Wei Yan blinked innocently, “Miss Dong, what are you talking about?”

After a few sips of hot tea, Dong Siwen’s expression finally eased. She tapped her finger on the table, looking at Wei Yan, “Try the fish yourself.”

Wei Yan smiled, not tasting it.

Dong Siwen snorted coldly, “Looks like you did it on purpose.” Her eyes still watered from being almost cried out by the saltiness, mocking, “I really didn’t expect the dignified Prime Minister to resort to such petty tricks.”

Yu Shuli finally understood, looking at Dong Siwen, “Ah, so it’s really bad? I thought Wei Yan’s cooking was good.”

He picked up his chopsticks, also picking up a piece of fish, “I want to see how bad it is.”

Wei Yan’s chopsticks reached over, holding him down, “I’ve already told someone to remake it. Just eat these vegetables, these are normal.”

Yu Shuli frowned, glaring at him, “So you knew your skills were off, or are you deliberately targeting Dong Siwen?”

He tugged at Wei Yan’s arm, whispering, “Wei Yan, what are you doing? She’s my good friend.”

Wei Yan raised an eyebrow, “She’s your good friend, I’m still your good brother.”

He emphasized the words “good brother,” making Yu Shuli blush instantly.

Dong Siwen “tsk’ed” again, “Ji’an, you found such a man, there will be no peace in your household in the future.”

Wei Yan retorted, “What does it have to do with you? You’re not entering his household anyway.”

Dong Siwen finally understood with a smile, “Oh,” she said, “Why are you so hostile towards me? I didn’t think you were defending against me wanting to enter Ji’an’s household? You think I want to marry Ji’an?”

She leaned closer, looking him up and down, clicking her tongue twice, “Such a fuss, so you were just jealous of my relationship with Ji’an.”

Wei Yan pursed his lips, glaring fiercely at her.

The topic was brought back to himself, Yu Shuli looked at his nose and his heart, not daring to take sides.

“I said…” He stirred his rice bowl, “Can we eat first? I’m really hungry, friends.”

The brand new dishes were brought up, Dong Siwen didn’t quibble anymore, she picked up her rice bowl and slowly ate.

Yu Shuli’s gaze fell on the replaced dishes made by Wei Yan in the servant’s hand.

“What a pity, just throwing it away like that? I really want to try it.”

Dong Siwen raised her eyes from the rice, “My suggestion is don’t try it.”

Wei Yan smiled, putting two green vegetables into Yu Shuli’s bowl, “These are also made by me, trying this is the same. I’ll make you a normal fish next time.”

“How bad could it be that you don’t even dare let me try it?” The more he said that, the more Yu Shuli excitedly moved over, he quickly snatched the plate from the servant’s hand, bringing it back.

Before Wei Yan could reach out to stop him, his chopsticks quickly picked up a piece of fish, and stuffed it into his mouth.

As soon as it entered his mouth, he spat it out with a “bah,” saying, “It’s so salty it’s bitter. Wei Yan, with your level, even pickling vegetables would be considered a lack of talent.”

Wei Yan smiled, “Didn’t I tell you, don’t try it easily?”

Yu Shuli blinked, leaning closer, “If I didn’t try it, how would I know how deep your jealousy is towards Dong Siwen?”

Wei Yan choked, about to argue again when Yu Shuli wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him closer, “Since Siwen and I have both tasted it. At least our chef, Prime Minister Wei, has to know his own level.” He turned his head, his lips touching Wei Yan’s, just like that, he opened his teeth.

Wei Yan didn’t react for a moment, being easily invaded.

Because he didn’t drink water, the salty and astringent taste filled Wei Yan’s mouth.

Eye to eye, Yu Shuli’s malicious teasing and retaliation wasn’t fake, but how could Wei Yan let him go so easily?

In the end, the faces of the two who didn’t want to show weakness were dyed with a blush.

Wei Yan frowned at first, after a moment, he completely relaxed, hooking his hand and pulling Yu Shuli closer, then deepening the kiss instead.

The two were already sitting close, being pulled by Wei Yan, their bodies were tightly pressed together, there seemed to be no gap between their chests, they could hear each other’s heartbeats.

“Cough… cough…” Dong Siwen’s eyes fluctuated, commenting, “How intense.”

Yu Shuli finally remembered, Dong Siwen was still watching!

Realizing this, he pushed him away in a panic, his little face was red.

    What did he do!

He just wanted to tease Wei Yan, to punish him slightly. As a result, he was turned against and thoroughly cleaned up in front of Dong Siwen, making him unable to come down from the stage.

Dong Siwen had seen a lot, not shy at all, but raising an eyebrow, “The two of you are quite interested, actually kissing in front of others so vividly and oblivious to others. Why don’t you continue? Is the next part going to cost money to watch?”

Yu Shuli wanted to cry but had no tears, “Siwen… I’m not like this…” He used to be a decent person.

Yu Shuli turned his head away, three feet away from Wei Yan, “It’s all your fault!”

Wei Yan’s tongue slightly traced over his lips, smiling with lingering pleasure, “Wasn’t it the little general’s initiative? I thought you liked this.”

Yu Shuli clenched his fist, “I was letting you taste how bad the food you made was!”

Wei Yan “hmm’ed” with a sound, “That’s true, I tasted it.” His Adam’s apple rolled, “But I think, it doesn’t seem bad?”

“You… you… you! You big pervert!” Yu Shuli’s voice stuttered with anger.

Dong Siwen sighed, suddenly standing up, “Hiccup, I’m full.”

Yu Shuli “ah’ed,” “But you haven’t eaten much.”

Dong Siwen glanced at him, her words implying, “I’m full from watching.”

Yu Shuli’s face turned red again, murmuring, “I’m sorry…” The more he thought about it, the more sorry he felt for Dong Siwen.

She had just gone through a hardship, finally returning safely, but he was busy showing affection with Wei Yan, without considering her feelings at all, and without caring about her.

“What can you be sorry about?” Dong Siwen smiled, teasing him, “It’s not like I was with you first, and then you cheated.”

“How is that possible?” Yu Shuli muttered, “You were always dressed as a man before, I thought you were a man, but I didn’t like men before.”

Dong Siwen grabbed the key point in his words, “So you admit it, you’re in love with this Prime Minister Wei now?”

Yu Shuli said without confidence, “Well… we’re married after all.”

“But I heard you didn’t go through your parents and matchmakers, you got married in private.”

Yu Shuli suddenly looked up, “Ah?”

“Who did you hear that from?” Secretly getting married, this matter hasn’t been made public yet.

“Shisan,” Dong Siwen looked natural, “Didn’t you tell him to tell me?”

Yu Shuli suddenly looked at Wei Yan.

This old fox! It was him again.

Wei Yan’s gaze fell on him calmly.

Dong Siwen understood in her heart, not intending to pursue the matter, “In short, if you two are sincere with each other, I’m relieved.”

She said, “The reason I came this time was just to see what kind of person the legendary Prime Minister Wei is. Having seen him today…” Her voice paused, “Although he’s cold and has some scheming methods, at least he treats you sincerely.”

She turned back and smiled at Yu Shuli, “Little general has found his own happiness, I should plan for me one day too. There are so many excellent young men in your army, you can always introduce me to one or two, right?”

Yu Shuli wrinkled his nose, crying, “Wuwuwu, Siwen, you’re so good. I like you so much…”

Dong Siwen’s face stiffened, “Idiot, say less of these words in the future! I’m afraid of being assassinated by your man.”

Wei Yan shook his head, with a bright smile on his face, “Miss Dong is magnanimous, I’m happy that Ji’an has such a good friend like you. Since you are friends, of course you don’t have to worry about me being jealous.”

“Don’t praise me too much, I also have selfish intentions.” Dong Siwen cleared her throat, “For example, I really want to know if all the money the old folks got over the years has to be turned over to the government? Do I still have a chance to inherit it?”

Yu Shuli thought seriously, “They should have also had legitimate businesses before, right, legitimate income should still be able to be retained?” He poked Wei Yan, “Wei Yan, what do you say? I don’t understand this aspect.”

Wei Yan was silent for a while, suddenly saying, “If Miss Dong wants to make money, what’s so difficult about that?”

    “What do you mean?”

“I have a business here, that guarantees a profit.”

Dong Siwen’s eyes lit up, “There’s such a good thing?”

Wei Yan nodded, pretending to be deep, “I’m running the entire Da Liang’s storybook business, just lacking a manager, I wonder what you think?”

“That sounds great! I also like to read storybooks!” Dong Siwen was eager to try.

Wei Yan hesitated, his tone sounding a bit difficult, “However, if you want to join, you also need a pledge of allegiance.”

“What is a pledge of allegiance?”

Wei Yan curved his lips, “That’s simple, help me get Ji’an’s signature, he always disagrees.”

“What’s so difficult about that? But why does the storybook need his signature? Does he also work as a writer?”

Yu Shuli’s face darkened, glaring at Wei Yan with gritted teeth, “Don’t even think about it! I’m not signing that! It’s too embarrassing!”

Wei Yan had shown him the storybook that day, and Yu Shuli was very dissatisfied at the time.

Why in the storybook does he love Wei Yan to death?!

    He doesn’t at all!

    Pure slander!

Wei Yan looked at him like this, chuckling, “It’s not letting you sign your real name, just signing the fake name in the book.”

“A fake name is no good either!” How could the weakling who “uhm’ed” and “ah’ed” in the storybook be himself?!

He will definitely counterattack in the future! He absolutely can’t let Wei Yan keep taking advantage!

Dong Siwen was amused, suddenly becoming interested, “May I ask what kind of storybook is it?”

Yu Shuli glanced at her resentfully, “The two or three things between me and Prime Minister Wei on the bed.”

He was originally counting on Dong Siwen to say a few words for him, but who knew she “ho’ed” with interest, her eyes shining, “There’s such a good thing?! Da Liang’s bookstore is actually publishing it?”
