Chapter 9

Before coming, Rong Yi had envisioned many plans.

The best option, of course, was to get the other party to actively reject him. No matter how sloppy he might be in appearance, he had his bottom line. Deliberately behaving in an offensive manner was theoretically feasible. After all, Rong Yi was an Omega himself, and he knew all too well what kind of Alpha’s words and deeds were most likely to disgust other men.

But while it was easy to imagine, putting it into practice was another matter. Asking him to act arrogant, rude, and boastful, while also rambling on and shamelessly bragging, was beyond Rong Yi’s acting skills. He was afraid he would not only stutter but also blush, and the thought of it made him cringe.

So, he decided to take a more straightforward route. First, he would gauge the other person’s attitude, and if they seemed easy to talk to, he would simply tell them his true gender.

If they seemed as difficult as that Bald Jerk, he would just have to give them the cold shoulder afterward.

Right now, this Zhou Li clearly had a strong liking for him, starting with a classic pickup line, which caught Rong Yi off guard for a moment.

To lower the level of goodwill, he deliberately chose the most unromantic response.

“I don’t think so, you must have mistaken me.”

“Impossible,” Zhou Li said with a smile, “Mr. Rong, you’re so handsome, I definitely wouldn’t forget you after seeing you once. Let me think…”

“Should we get the tickets first?” Rong Yi interrupted him. “It’s almost starting.”

Going on a blind date at the cinema wasn’t a good choice.

The two people sat together facing the screen, unable to talk easily, which wasn’t conducive to communication and understanding. Rong Yi chose this place entirely to deliberately avoid face-to-face contact.

The movie was Zhou Li’s choice, a particularly dull and boring art film. The cinematography was beautiful, with long shots of various stunning landscapes and only a few lines of dialogue from the actors, which was very hypnotic, making Rong Yi yawn constantly.

Unable to get into the plot, he naturally couldn’t help but think about random things while sitting there in a daze.

A young couple in the seats in front were sharing a bucket of popcorn, occasionally putting their heads together and whispering.

Rong Yi sat in his seat, watching them through the gap in the seats in front, and then subconsciously gripped the fingertips of his right hand with his left hand.

    Both hands were cold.

The air conditioning in the cinema was a bit too strong, the temperature was too low, and he wasn’t wearing enough. Even if his two hands were clasped together, they couldn’t warm each other.

    He felt cold.

This place was terrible, he didn’t want to stay any longer.

As he tried to stand up, he noticed that Zhou Li next to him was yawning very exaggeratedly, his big eyes looking moist in the glow of the screen.

He really looked very cute, like a little brother that you couldn’t help but want to reach out and pat on the head.

But he clearly didn’t like this kind of film either, so why did he still come to see it?

Rong Yi’s question was answered five minutes later.

“…I just wanted to go through the motions,” Zhou Li said, looking down as they walked, “so I picked a movie that felt the most boring, I’m sorry.”

Rong Yi felt a bit awkward.

After he pretended to go to the bathroom and sneaked out of the theater, this yawning young man immediately followed him, and then proactively asked him if he still wanted to watch it, or if he wanted to go somewhere else.

He felt that now was a good time to tell the other person that he also just wanted to go through the motions.

Unfortunately, before he could speak, Zhou Li suddenly sighed.

“Mr. Rong, you really don’t remember at all,” he looked up at Rong Yi, “we really met, last month, just downstairs in that shopping mall less than ten minutes from here. I asked you for your contact information, but you wouldn’t give it to me.”

Rong Yi thought about it for a while, and vaguely seemed to have some impression, but he couldn’t be sure.

“There must be a lot of people who ask you for your contact information,” Zhou Li spread his hands, “it’s okay if you don’t remember.”

    “I’m sorry, I…”

“You’re still not interested in me, right?” Zhou Li asked.

Such directness was hard to handle, but it also saved a lot of trouble, making one want to secretly breathe a sigh of relief.

“…I don’t think I’m that bad,” Zhou Li looked upset when he didn’t say anything, “It’s the first time I’ve been rejected like this. Oh no, the second time. The last time was also you. I thought about it for a long time to find an excuse to strike up a conversation with you.”

He certainly wasn’t bad. As the same gender, Rong Yi also thought he was very cute and had a very likable personality.

Even that feeling of envy, like “If only I could be like that.”

Except for freaks like Chen Ke Yao, normal Alphas should be satisfied with such a blind date partner, right? It’s just a pity that Rong Yi isn’t an Alpha at all.

“My uncle used to introduce me to some strange people,” Zhou Li continued, “When I first saw you today, it was the first time I wanted to thank him.”

“…I’m sorry,” Rong Yi felt even more awkward.

After all, he was very likely the strangest one of them all.

Zhou Li looked at him: “There’s really no chance at all?”

From a perspective outside of love, Rong Yi actually had a good impression of the Omega in front of him. So he considered it again and again and decided to tell him the truth.

“Your uncle seems to have misunderstood me a bit,” Rong Yi said with difficulty, “Actually, I’m the same as you…”

“Also in love with me at first sight?” Zhou Li’s expression didn’t seem serious.

Rong Yi smiled wryly and continued, “…also an Omega.”

Zhou Li was stunned for a moment, frowned at him, and didn’t say anything.

“It’s true,” Rong Yi emphasized, “I can show you my…”

    Identification Card.

He even reached into his pocket, but he swallowed the words before he could finish. The pocket where he usually kept his documents was empty. His ID was still being reissued, and he couldn’t produce it temporarily.

In order to prevent Zhou Li from trying to break through the worldly prejudices and embarking on an evil path against his subjective wishes, like the very few Omegas who had pursued him before, he quickly emphasized.

“Don’t look at me like this, but I am indeed a standard heterosexual.”

Zhou Li’s expression was subtle, and after a long time, he said: “…You made up this kind of thing to reject me?”

    Rong Yi was simply exhausted.

After that, he argued with Zhou Li for at least half an hour more.

This Omega had obviously graduated from college, but he had a baby face, and his appearance looked like a seventeen or eighteen-year-old boy. It easily aroused the self-awareness of others as elders, and subconsciously he had a sense of humility towards him.

He said that day was the first time in his life that he had struck up a conversation, and he had always been worried about it after the failure. When he first saw Rong Yi in the cinema, he even thought it was the will of heaven. Unfortunately, he quickly noticed Rong Yi’s strong perfunctoriness towards this meeting.

But even so, if he had this opportunity, he didn’t want to give up easily. After all, this was the first time he had fallen in love at first sight in his life.

Rong Yi thought silently in his heart at the time, when you fall in love at first sight like me seventeen or eight times, you will know that it’s actually nothing, and the vast majority will make you feel like you are blind afterward.

After entangling to the end, Zhou Li said, since we are both Omegas, then it’s okay to make friends, right?

He obviously wanted to take a roundabout route, but Rong Yi couldn’t find a suitable reason to refuse for a while. What’s more, if Zhou Li was depressed and went back to say something nasty, then the Bald Jerk’s revenge would be terrible.

After exchanging WeChat, Rong Yi also specifically showed Zhou Li the gender section of his profile page.

Seeing that the other party was still skeptical, he decided that when he got his new ID card, he must immediately take a photo and set the close-up of the gender column as the top image of his WeChat Moments.

When he finally got home, it was much earlier than he had imagined.

After all, he didn’t finish the movie, and they didn’t eat together afterward. Rong Yi was focused on quickly getting out of the battlefield. When he entered the house and lay on the bed, he realized that he was a little hungry.

Ordering takeout during peak dinner time was too slow, so he found a packet of instant noodles in the cabinet, started a fire, and boiled water to cook the noodles.

Rong Yi was very good at cooking, but unfortunately, he was busy with his daily work. Most of the time, he came home at a very tense time, so he basically either dealt with it casually at the convenience store or ordered takeout. Eating instant noodles occasionally was also a change of pace.

He had time to cook on weekends, but after all, he was the only one eating, so he couldn’t get too excited.

Originally, he thought he would soon have the opportunity to cook for someone he liked.

Chen Ke Yao was too annoying, and he appeared so abruptly in his thoughts again. If the memories in the brain could be easily deleted like the numbers in the phone contacts. This damn Alpha was like a happiness overdraft station. All the joy he had gained from him in the beginning was borrowed, and now he had to return it all with interest.

But this interest was too high, endless, and never to be repaid. Rong Yi felt like he had lost everything.

While standing in front of the stove thinking wildly, the phone rang suddenly in the room.

Rong Yi quickly ran over to answer it and found that it was a sales advertisement. After blacklisting the number, he saw a new unread message.

The sender was Zhou Li, and the content was a picture.

Rong Yi clicked it open, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. It was a photo of him taken when he participated in the sports meeting in college. Zhou Li’s picture also intercepted a part of the forum comments, all of which were discussing whether he was falsely reporting his gender.

Rong Yi remembered this post, which was posted on their school BBS. In the end, he personally posted his student ID on the post.

Zhou Li had obviously searched for it specifically after returning home.

    “Believe it now?” He replied.

Zhou Li sent a voice request. After connecting, Rong Yi immediately heard his tearful voice.

    “I’m so sad,” he said.

Rong Yi was embarrassed: “…I’m sorry.”

“But… it can also be regarded as some comfort,” Zhou Li said, “Being rejected for this reason, although I feel suffocated, it doesn’t seem to be that shocking.”

“You’re really good,” Rong Yi comforted him, “You don’t know how much I envy you. Actually, it should be very easy for an Omega like you to find a partner, right?”

“I originally didn’t plan to find a partner…” Zhou Li said.

From a certain point of view, he was very similar to Rong Yi’s opposite.

He looked cute, but he was particularly independent in his bones, and he despised the many Alphas who pursued him. Before he graduated, he had already made a career plan for himself, and the word “family” in his planned life blueprint was placed on the edge where it could be ignored at any time.

But precisely because of his baby face, it was still okay when he was in school, but now that he started working, he was despised everywhere. Many people were not malicious, but some so-called “care” was not comfortable in the hearts of strong people.

He wanted to work hard, but his family felt that as an Omega, he should quickly find a partner to get married and have children. So they constantly arranged blind dates for him.

“My uncle is really sick,” he complained to Rong Yi, “He has never introduced me to even one normal person! Oh, I don’t mean that you are not normal… but you are really not very normal!”

Rong Yi was not angry when he heard this. After all, it meant that he had successfully passed this level, and Zhou Li would definitely not make a big deal out of it to embarrass him with the Bald Jerk. Moreover, he seemed to have made a pretty interesting friend because of a blessing in disguise.

Each had their own troubles. Rong Yi also complained a few words.

In contrast to Zhou Li, he himself was not a particularly career-minded person. But all along, because of the extreme emptiness of his emotional life and the lack of hobbies that could pass the time, there was nothing else in his life besides his career. He became a project leader at a young age, and while the responsibility became heavier, it also encroached on more of his spare time, making it even harder to find a partner.

And although his parents usually teased him for not being able to marry, they didn’t seem to be in a hurry in their bones. He hinted several times that he didn’t mind going on blind dates, but the response he got was “The introducer was scared away by your height.”

The two comforted each other, and although their personalities and preferences were very different, they were very compatible, and their friendship gradually warmed up.

After sighing for a while, Zhou Li suddenly seemed to have thought of something while chatting.

    “That…I suddenly have an idea, I don’t know if you’re willing…it’s…”

    “Tell me?”

“Can you pretend to be my boyfriend?” Zhou Li said.

    “…”

“My uncle definitely doesn’t know you’re also an Omega,” he continued, “It doesn’t necessarily have to be that we’re already together, just say that you feel pretty good and want to continue to get to know each other, I’m really tired of endless blind dates.”

    “Uh…”

“Anyway, our social circles don’t overlap at all, right?” Zhou Li said, “I’ll try not to cause you any trouble!”

    Rong Yi hesitated.

This was not the first time someone had come to him to help with such a thing. He had agreed before, and as a result, the other party pretended to be real and developed some unnecessary emotions for him, which was quite troublesome afterward.

Zhou Li’s situation was bound to make people think more.

“…It’s okay if you want to charge, but I’m still pretty poor now, I can’t afford anything too expensive.”

    That’s what he said.

Rong Yi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just as he was about to nod and agree, he suddenly smelled a very pungent burning smell.
