MRFD Chapter 5
by VolareRong Yi ran all the way home.
When opening the door, he fumbled with the key a few times before inserting it into the lock. Once inside, he kicked off his shoes and rushed in, throwing himself into the pile of blankets without even bothering to take off his coat.
He buried his head under the pillow, clenching his right hand into a fist and pounding the bed, laughing silently and maniacally.
Only after a few minutes did he finally calm down a bit. At that moment, the phone in his pocket rang.
It was a message from his new boyfriend.
“Forgot to say just now. Good night, get some rest.”
Rong Yi chuckled foolishly at his phone.
Rong Yi put down his phone, lay on the bed, and rolled back and forth while chuckling foolishly.
This world is so wonderful, this life is so blissful.
He reached out to cover his face, feeling like he could still smell a trace of Chen Ke Yao’s unique pheromones lingering at the tip of his nose.
In this day and age, when everyone regularly gets long-acting suppressant injections, Rong Yi, being a single dog, had almost never smelled any Alpha pheromones. So even though the dosage was incredibly faint, it still had a slight effect on him.
But he also felt that his excitement at this moment shouldn’t be just because of that little bit of pheromones.
He was genuinely happy from the bottom of his heart.
Chen Ke Yao must really like him. That’s why he unconsciously released that kind of scent when he kissed him. That was an Alpha’s instinct when facing the person they love, and no amount of reason could completely suppress it.
Deep down, this Alpha must want to mark him.
Although, given their emotional foundation, it was still too early to say. But the fact that his crush had desires for him was a pleasing thing in itself.
He wondered how that thief was doing now. Rong Yi almost wanted to send him a banner of gratitude.
But after taking a shower and cooling down a bit, Rong Yi started to feel insecure again.
Having suffered too many setbacks in love, he couldn’t help but feel unconfident in the face of sudden happiness.
Thinking back, Chen Ke Yao had actually admitted that he didn’t know much about him. The starting point of this relationship was love at first sight for both of them.
And in the process of getting along, Chen Ke Yao seemed to be just as unsure as he was, even assuming that his pursuit would be met with resistance.
There was no reason for that. Even if he looked like an Alpha on the outside, Rong Yi was a pure Omega at heart, with normal aesthetic preferences. Did Chen Ke Yao really not know how attractive he was to the opposite sex as an Alpha?
Were all the Omegas around him blind?
Rong Yi agonized for a long time, and then a terrifying guess suddenly popped into his head.
Chen Ke Yao had seen his Identification Card, but he hadn’t seen Chen Ke Yao’s. Could it be that this person was just like him, an Omega?
Rong Yi was scared out of his wits by this guess, and quickly took out his phone again to open Chen Ke Yao’s WeChat profile and take a look.
He hadn’t noticed it before, but Chen Ke Yao’s profile, like most people’s, didn’t have his secondary gender listed.
The more Rong Yi thought about it, the more panicked he became, but at the same time, a strange feeling arose in his heart. No wonder some Omegas were still infatuated with him even after knowing his gender. If Chen Ke Yao really was an Omega, he probably wouldn’t be able to cut him off immediately either. But forcing themselves to be together wouldn’t lead to anything good. Two people lying flat together wouldn’t find happiness.
Fortunately, the possibility of that was too low.
At worst, Chen Ke Yao should be a Beta. That was still within Rong Yi’s acceptance range. This person at least looked like an Alpha, and the scent of his pheromones made him feel particularly good.
That would also explain why Chen Ke Yao seemed so unconfident in front of him. After all, most Omegas preferred to date Alphas.
Rong Yi silently lowered his expectations, still feeling a surge of happiness.
While he was thriving in love, his career suddenly hit a snag.
The proposal he had submitted to the Client Company a while ago had already been approved smoothly and had entered the concrete implementation phase, but unexpectedly, the other side suddenly had a brainstorm and changed their minds.
Rong Yi, who was a project lead for the first time, had a splitting headache.
Seeing his team members complaining, he had to bite the bullet and actively go to negotiate.
The results weren’t ideal. A new person in charge had been parachuted in, with an extremely active imagination but lacking logic, and yet was stubborn and wouldn’t listen to advice. After the meeting, Rong Yi was filled with anger.
Liu Yuan, who had also attended the meeting, initially avoided him, but after the meeting, seeing him frowning with a look of bitterness and hatred, he took the initiative to come over and offer a few words of comfort.
“Don’t even talk about you, even I think that Bald Jerk is an idiot,” he whispered to Rong Yi when no one was around, “This change not only gives you a headache, but we also have to work overtime, it’s really annoying.”
“…So you can’t help?” Rong Yi looked at him sadly.
“It’s a bit difficult,” Liu Yuan said, “If you want to ambush him, I can help keep watch.”
Rong Yi couldn’t help but laugh: “You’re so useless.”
Liu Yuan escorted him to the elevator entrance. On the way, Rong Yi received a message asking him what time he would get off work and if he wanted to have dinner together.
This was really a mixed bag of emotions.
Rong Yi replied sadly: I have to work overtime.
A moment later, before the elevator arrived, he received a new message.
“I’ll wait for you.”
Liu Yuan, who was standing next to him, couldn’t help but be curious: “Who are you talking to? You’re frowning one moment and smiling like a… something the next.”
Rong Yi looked up at him, and then smiled even more exaggeratedly.
He finally had a chance to show off! He had been so exhausted all day because of work that he hadn’t found a chance!
He tried to suppress the corners of his mouth from rising wildly, trying to pretend to be nonchalant: “My boyfriend.”
As expected, Liu Yuan looked surprised.
“Your boyfriend?” he asked, “When did that happen?”
“…Just, recently,” Rong Yi said.
Actually, they had become official last night, but saying it would make him seem too eager.
Liu Yuan didn’t say anything, but he clearly breathed a sigh of relief, as if a heavy weight had finally been lifted from his chest.
Then, just like he used to when he was around Rong Yi, he reached out and patted him on the shoulder in a very bold manner: “All the best!”
Rong Yi smiled and sighed: “Then I guess your Bald Jerk has to get lost first.”
But being able to have the nourishment of love while being busy with work felt very happy.
In the end, they couldn’t have dinner together, so Chen Ke Yao simply bought him dinner and sent it over. Although it was something that could be easily solved with takeout, the food tasted especially good when received from his boyfriend.
Rong Yi couldn’t wait to take Chen Ke Yao on a tour of the office, but in the end, he felt that it was too high-profile and a bit embarrassing, so he gave up.
Chen Ke Yao was reluctant to leave, so the two of them lingered at the entrance of the company, creating a very strange scene.
“People who don’t know would think they’re homosexuals,” the Beta girl at the front desk, who had witnessed the whole thing, said.
Rong Yi spread his hands cheerfully: “We just need to know we’re not.”
However, he still had to find an opportunity to indirectly ask about whether Chen Ke Yao was an Alpha or a Beta.
When he returned to the office, all of his colleagues were painfully buried in their work, while he was beaming and humming a song, looking extremely annoying.
But after shining so brightly for a few days, Rong Yi still withered along with them, even more gloomy than his colleagues.
They had only just become official, which, give or take, was like being newlyweds, but he was so busy every day that he couldn’t even send a few messages. This was completely inhumane. Rong Yi always felt a little embarrassed to have Chen Ke Yao come over to send him dinner, but when Chen Ke Yao said that he had class tonight and couldn’t come, and told him to eat well, Rong Yi was devastated.
When Liu Yuan came to understand the progress of the work, he passionately scolded that shameless Bald Jerk, saying that he would put the ambush proposal on the work agenda.
Liu Yuan was very surprised after hearing this.
“I feel like you’ve changed,” he said, “I always thought you were quite quiet and reserved before.”
Rong Yi was embarrassed.
Wasn’t that because he still had some designs on Liu Yuan at the time? Now that his feelings for Liu Yuan were completely pure, he was naturally uninhibited and became more outgoing.
Now he was also very quiet and reserved in front of Chen Ke Yao.
It wasn’t on purpose, but he was so afraid of messing things up in front of the person he liked that he couldn’t help but be highly nervous.
It was actually quite tiring. But now that he couldn’t even find a chance to be tired, Rong Yi was still very bitter in his heart.
Seeing that it was difficult to catch up with the progress even with overtime, Rong Yi simply changed his strategy, shamelessly running to the Client Company every day, enduring his anger and repeatedly arguing with that Bald Jerk.
That Bald Jerk took advantage of his position as the client and acted bossy. Rong Yi initially patiently treated him kindly, but finally couldn’t bear it anymore, slammed the table and had a big argument with him, attracting countless onlookers.
After the argument, he felt that he had failed as a professional, and Rong Yi felt deeply distressed. He was worried that it would completely ruin the project and drag down the entire team, but that damn Bald Jerk actually relented. All other requirements remained the same, but he gave them an extra two weeks of grace.
Rong Yi was a little moved in his confusion, feeling that this Bald Jerk was a bit of a masochist, not appreciating a toast but appreciating a forfeit, unable to reason with him but only able to rely on tearing.
After returning to the company and bringing back the good news, just as he wanted to notify his boyfriend, Rong Yi received a call from Liu Yuan.
“You’re done for,” Liu Yuan said while laughing uncontrollably, “That Bald Jerk has taken a fancy to you.”
Rong Yi was immediately frightened: “Are you kidding?”
This Bald Jerk was unattractive and had a wretched temperament, at least twice his age. Rong Yi didn’t even have the mood to care about his secondary gender.
Was he going to be kept? Was he a masochist?
“He wants to introduce you to his nephew,” Liu Yuan said, clearly gloating, “I guess the next time you come over, he will take the initiative to mention it to you, so be prepared!”
“…His nephew is… an Alpha?”
“Definitely not,” Liu Yuan said, “Because he said that only an Alpha like you is worthy of his nephew hahahahahaha!”
“…”
“I advise you to agree first, and at least go meet him,” Liu Yuan said, “This person is fickle, and if he turns against us, we’re all done for. Just think of it as sacrificing yourself for everyone?”
