Chapter 3

Rong Yi paced around his house until he went to sleep, still unable to send any message successfully.

As the saying goes, a good beginning is half the battle. It was rare to find an Alpha who didn’t give him suggestive looks and was so handsome and dashing. Rong Yi felt he had to be careful and cautious.

He typed, deleted, agonized, rolled around, clicked into Chen Ke Yao’s Moments to admire his photos, then continued typing and deleting. After repeating this several times, he noticed a new post in Chen Ke Yao’s Moments.

“Only two months left this year, can I still achieve my goal of escaping singlehood that I set at the beginning of the year?”

Rong Yi’s hand trembled, and he accidentally liked the post.

Before he could recover, a new message suddenly popped up in the chat box he had been staring at all night.

“You seem to have left something in my car.”

After a brief moment of confusion, Rong Yi slapped his thigh hard.

That’s right, why didn’t he think of deliberately leaving something in Chen Ke Yao’s car? What a great excuse! But thankfully, although he didn’t think of it subjectively due to being too nervous, he was indeed a somewhat careless person.

    Rong Yi replied nervously.

“I’m so sorry, what did I leave in your car?”

He quickly received a rather cute sticker in response.

“You didn’t even notice you were missing something?”

This was embarrassing. Rong Yi quickly searched all his pockets and even checked his jacket. After thinking it over, he suspected he had left his handkerchief behind.

He often got dizzy when traveling and felt that taking out Cooling Oil and taking a deep breath in public was too geriatric, so he got into the habit of putting a little on his handkerchief and smelling it when he felt unwell.

After actively inquiring, he received an affirmative answer.

Originally, Rong Yi’s handkerchief wasn’t anything fancy, and it was covered in old Cooling Oil. It wouldn’t have mattered if he lost it. Or he could just send a courier to solve the problem simply.

But Chen Ke Yao took the initiative to ask him when it would be convenient for him to drop off the handkerchief.

If Rong Yi didn’t overthink things at this point, he wouldn’t be Rong Yi.

He even had the urge to reply directly: Do you have feelings for me? Let’s not beat around the bush, I also have feelings for you, especially strong feelings. Why don’t we just define our relationship right now!

But he was still too afraid to scare him away.

So, let him drop it off. Afterwards, he could find an excuse to treat him to a meal and arrange another date. Perfect. After a couple of dates, they should almost be ready to have a house full of grandchildren.

Rong Yi solemnly expressed his gratitude on WeChat, then eagerly arranged to meet him after work two days later.

After excitedly pacing around the house for the twelfth time, he turned around and saw a neatly folded plaid handkerchief on the corner of his desk.

That should have been the only handkerchief Rong Yi owned.

He stared blankly at the handkerchief for a while, then squatted on the ground, holding his head.

He was self-aware and knew that he liked to daydream, but most of the time he never took it seriously.

But this time, it must be real, right?

It would be outrageous if he still couldn’t escape singlehood.

Although Rong Yi was usually a bit careless, he was very particular about his appearance.

He cared about his daily outfits, made sure not to wear the same clothes twice in the same week, paid attention to the cleanliness of his clothes, and tried to keep his hairstyle neat and tidy. These good habits had only earned him more favor from Omegas in the past.

After all, an Alpha who was both tall and incredibly handsome, behaved appropriately in front of Omegas without a hint of frivolousness or lewdness, and looked so clean, refreshing, and tasteful, was already very rare.

Unfortunately, the person he really wanted to attract had never been moved.

After all these years of winking at the blind, he finally had the opportunity to primp for someone he liked. Rong Yi’s heart surged, and he even took half a day off in the afternoon to go home and work on his look.

He put on a face mask, washed his hair, and carefully styled his hair. He changed four or five outfits in front of the mirror, feeling extremely confident when he finally left the house.

Unfortunately, he panicked again when he arrived at the meeting place.

If you ignored gender, Rong Yi could be classified as someone with outstanding qualities. But gender was a big issue that couldn’t be ignored. When Rong Yi chose his clothes, he prioritized what was appropriate over what he liked. After all, if he followed his preferences, the style he would most want to try right now was the bright-colored hoodie full of youthful energy worn by an Omega not far away on the street.

But those clothes probably didn’t come in his size.

Rong Yi continued to secretly look at himself in the glass exterior wall of the mall, then silently sighed in his heart that he was so handsome that even he wanted to marry himself.

But what if this aroused Chen Ke Yao’s instinctive resistance as an Alpha?

“Hello?” A girl with waist-length hair carefully walked up to him and looked up at him. “Excuse me… um… I…”

Rong Yi had encountered similar scenes at least dozens of times. While sighing inwardly, he appeared unfazed: “Can I help you?”

“Can I have your contact information?” the girl asked.

This was one of the most direct approaches among those who tried to flirt with him.

Rong Yi was about to refuse when a thought suddenly struck him. He then opened his mouth and replied: “Sorry, I’m waiting for my… boy, boyfriend.”

His face turned red as soon as he said that.

“My boyfriend,” this was the first time in his life that he had used this sentence structure, and the feeling was indescribable. Unfortunately, he hadn’t asked the “boyfriend” himself for his opinion, which inevitably seemed a little shameless.

But secretly taking advantage of people felt a little unethical, but also quite good.

He was still surging with excitement, not even noticing how the girl left.

Just as he was about to take out his phone to check the time again, someone beside him suddenly said faintly: “So you have a boyfriend?”

Rong Yi was startled, and almost dropped his phone on the ground.

“Careful,” Chen Ke Yao, who had appeared beside him at some point, unnecessarily reached out to steady him. “Sorry, did I scare you?”

Rong Yi was flushed: “When did you get here?”

“Five minutes ago,” Chen Ke Yao turned and pointed to a bench by the flower bed not far behind him. “I saw you seemed to be thinking about something seriously and couldn’t find a chance to say hello.”

Rong Yi lowered his head, not daring to look at him: “…I was just saying that to make it easier to reject her.”

“I see,” Chen Ke Yao smiled and nodded, then pointed to the mall next to him. “Shall we find a place to sit down first?”

They had only said they were going to return the handkerchief when they made the appointment.

But afterwards, the two of them deliberately arranged to meet in a commercial center at dinnertime, which could be said to be a tacit understanding.

When they arrived at the restaurant, Rong Yi discovered that the other party had even made a reservation in advance.

    This was completely a date.

Rong Yi had lived for twenty-six years and had been treated as a brother by Alphas who patted his shoulders and had also eaten alone, but the atmosphere was completely different from what it was now.

This was the first time an Alpha had been so caring towards him, actively pulling out his chair for him before he sat down, carefully asking about his preferences before ordering, complimenting the style of his coat, and even secretly paying the bill on the pretext of going to the bathroom before leaving.

Rong Yi used to think that Alphas were more attractive when they were rough around the edges, but now he had completely changed his aesthetic preferences. He was just waiting for Chen Ke Yao to open his mouth so he could immediately nod and tell him “I do.”

Unfortunately, Chen Ke Yao didn’t mention anything about it.

He started by asking a lot of questions about Rong Yi, looking like he really wanted to get to know him. Unfortunately, Rong Yi was too nervous, and he was using all his strength just to keep the hand holding his chopsticks from shaking. He was afraid that he would say something stupid and ruin his image, so he was extremely reserved.

Fortunately, Chen Ke Yao didn’t force it and changed the subject to talk about interesting things at work. He must have really liked those children, as his smile became even gentler when he mentioned them, making his originally sharp features look much softer.

The more Rong Yi looked at him, the more he liked him, and his heart was moved beyond words.

After dinner, Chen Ke Yao offered to take him home, and Rong Yi even had the urge to take the initiative to break through this layer of paper. But this time, he started to worry about things, even though he would easily confess when his hopes were slim in the past.

Maybe Chen Ke Yao was the type of person who was slow to warm up and liked to cultivate feelings little by little. What if he thought he was too frivolous? Should he be more patient and wait?

Anyway, he had been single for twenty-six years, what difference would a few more days make?

It wasn’t until Chen Ke Yao’s car arrived at the entrance of his residential complex that Rong Yi finally managed to swallow the urge to confess.

“Thank you for today,” he said, lowering his head and not even daring to look at Chen Ke Yao’s face. “Next time, I…”

    I’ll treat you.

“I was originally afraid that you would think I was being too abrupt,” Chen Ke Yao said. “So I can still see you like this next time, right?”

Abrupt my ass, it wouldn’t be abrupt at all if you asked me to go home with you right now.

    No one’s home.

Seeing him freeze up and say nothing, Chen Ke Yao didn’t press him any further and got out of the car to open the door for him.

“Good night?” he said to Rong Yi.

Rong Yi looked at him and felt that he was bound to have a restless night.

After he walked into his house in a daze, a strong sense of unreality suddenly surged up.

It’s so strange, why would such a good thing suddenly happen? Such a perfect Alpha, there must be no shortage of suitors around him, yet he’s still single and has feelings for me, it’s too incredible.

Could it be that all the rejections he had suffered in the past years of his love life were just a training for the perfect love that heaven was about to bestow upon him?

There’s no such thing. Could this person be a scammer?

But what does he have that could be scammed? Money or looks?

Rong Yi had been working for four years, spending lavishly on a daily basis and having to pay rent. Although his income wasn’t low compared to his peers, he never had much savings. He couldn’t scam him for money, and he couldn’t possibly trick him into taking out a loan, that would be too convoluted.

As for looks… it didn’t seem like a loss to be scammed by an Alpha like Chen Ke Yao?

While he was still hesitating, his phone rang. Chen Ke Yao, who had just parted ways with him, sent him a message.

“Sorry, I just remembered, I forgot to return the handkerchief to you.”

Where did you get a handkerchief, the handkerchief is still on my desk. Rong Yi looked at his phone and couldn’t help but laugh.

See, he really is a scammer.

But Rong Yi decided to give him his heart.
