Chapter 30: An Extremely Bold Guess

Qin Yuanging also felt like he was sick.

Li Chongge was consistently good at hiding his emotions, and Qin Yuanging couldn’t completely figure him out, but even someone as cautious as Li Chongge had moments of oversight.

Li Chongge was a very cultured person. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t ignore someone who proactively and warmly greeted him, especially since Sun Qihao wasn’t a complete stranger to him.

But tonight, Li Chongge didn’t even spare him a glance.

This indicated that Li Chongge wasn’t as calm as he appeared.

The rejected phone calls and the sudden business trip were all telling Qin Yuanging that Li Chongge was indeed angry.

But Li Chongge just wouldn’t admit it.

The problem was that Li Chongge had no reason to not admit it.

Counting back over their decade-long friendship, Qin Yuanging was always the one being controlled and suppressed. Li Chongge didn’t always react with good-tempered advice to Qin Yuanging’s incorrigible “bad habits.” Occasionally, he would sternly “suppress” him with a very firm attitude.

So Qin Yuanging couldn’t understand why Li Chongge would conceal it and why he would deny it.

Or was the reason he was angry something that couldn’t be spoken aloud?

Qin Yuanging used his now less-than-clear mind to deduce an extremely bold guess.

What if Li Chongge was angry because of Yang Yanqing’s appearance?

This thought excited Qin Yuanging so much that he couldn’t tell if his rising body temperature was due to extreme excitement or a thoroughly delightful cold.

In other words, was it possible that Li Chongge actually liked him just a little bit?

As long as there was just a little bit, Qin Yuanging would never let go.

So Qin Yuanging shamelessly sent Li Chongge another message.

“Where are you on your business trip? I’ll come find you tomorrow?”

Qin Yuanging didn’t turn on the lights. In the darkness, only the faint light of the phone screen illuminated his faintly expectant face.

Ten minutes passed, and Qin Yuanging’s message sank without a trace. He laid back down in frustration. Three minutes later, he got up again, unwilling to give up, and sent a picture of a thermometer.

“Li Chongge, I have a fever again.”

Soon, Li Chongge’s phone call came in.

Qin Yuanging glanced at the time; it was already close to twelve o’clock.

“The fever reducer is on the bedside table to your right.”

Qin Yuanging lowered his voice. “I already took it, but I’ve been lying down for almost three hours since then, and I still don’t feel well.”

Qin Yuanging deliberately revealed that he had returned to his residence early, attempting to ease Li Chongge’s anger with this information.

“Then get dressed and get out of bed. My private doctor will arrive within an hour.”

“It’s late, I don’t want to get up. I’ll be fine after a night’s sleep.”

It was very quiet on Li Chongge’s end. Qin Yuanging could even hear the notification sounds of him receiving messages on his other phone.

“Since you’ll be fine after a night’s sleep, why are you looking for me?”

Li Chongge’s attitude was somewhat cold, and Qin Yuanging’s painstakingly constructed mental fortitude began to collapse.

“I wanted to ask where you are on your business trip…”

“Qin Yuanging, don’t do anything rash.”

Li Chongge’s slightly stern warning left Qin Yuanging speechless.

After a long while, he said, “I understand.”

Li Chongge paused for a moment, then asked, “Why did you want to find me?”

“My mom has been urging me to go on blind dates these past few days. I might as well hide from her. Anyway, I have nowhere else to go, so I thought I’d go find you.”

Yu Keci had indeed made such a phone call to Qin Yuanging, but after being sternly rejected, she didn’t insist any further.

“Your aunt is doing it for your own good.”

Qin Yuanging no longer had the courage to continue talking to Li Chongge.

At that moment, he felt both stupid and affected.

Sun Qihao was right. He was almost delusional, actually thinking that Li Chongge might like him.

“I’m not feeling well, I’m going to sleep, good night.”

Qin Yuanging hurriedly hung up the phone, covering his head and getting angry with himself.

Just as he finally accepted the fact that he was seriously ill and was preparing to fall asleep, he heard faint footsteps outside the bedroom door, which startled Qin Yuanging.

The thought of a home invasion flashed through his mind. Before he could get up, the door was pushed open. The next second, the bright light blinded Qin Yuanging.

    “Feeling uncomfortable?”

Li Chongge stood at the head of the bed, his gaze carrying a condescending scrutiny.

    “You were downstairs?”

Qin Yuanging smelled the faint scent of body wash on Li Chongge’s body, and his previously subsided heart started pounding fiercely again.

Li Chongge thought Qin Yuanging was really feverish, and bent down to test his forehead.

“I’m going on a business trip tomorrow. Why weren’t you here tonight?”

“Then why didn’t you answer my calls several times?”

Qin Yuanging’s face was flushed red. Even though he was trying his best to hide it, his eyes still held an emotion called grievance.

Li Chongge crossed his arms and looked down at him for a long time, his eyes darkening.

    Why?

How dare Qin Yuanging ask why?

His anger, jealousy, unwillingness, and even pain, all stemmed from this ignorant fool in front of him.

Qin Yuanging could still ask him why so calmly?

“There was an important video conference tonight, it wasn’t convenient for me to look at my phone.”

“Are you done with work now?”

Qin Yuanging half-propped himself up and touched the back of Li Chongge’s hand hanging by his side with his burning palm.

“Pour me a glass of water, I’m so thirsty.”

Li Chongge’s fingers involuntarily curled slightly, turned around and left the bedroom. The moment he stepped out the door, a sigh, almost inaudible, escaped his lips.

Qin Yuanging clenched his hand, leaned against the headboard as if he had no bones, and stretched out his voice with confidence: “Peel me an apple too, I’m a little hungry.”

Li Chongge brought the water in and put it in his hand, giving him a cool glance.

With a “beauty” by his side, fine wine, and delicious food, he still had the nerve to say he was hungry?

    “Didn’t eat enough tonight?”

“I didn’t have much of an appetite. If I had known Sun Qihao was bringing someone else, I wouldn’t have gone.”

Qin Yuanging seized the opportunity and subtly defended himself.

Li Chongge took the empty water glass that Qin Yuanging had drunk clean.

“Why would he bring someone else?”

Qin Yuanging repeated the words Sun Qihao used to scold him verbatim, “He’s sick.”

    Li Chongge: “…”

“You have a fever, eating cold food is bad for your stomach, I’ll have someone send you some food.”

“No need, I brought back the food you packed for me, I can heat it up in the microwave.”

Li Chongge indeed saw the food that Qin Yuanging had brought back in the refrigerator. The ball of air that had been stuck in his chest suddenly dissipated.

At least his effort wasn’t worthless to Qin Yuanging.

In the silent early morning, the lights on the twenty-first floor contributed a faint glimmer to the colorful night scene of Jing City.

While Li Chongge was putting the food on a plate, Qin Yuanging draped a thin blanket over himself and stood behind him, asking, “Do you really have to go on a business trip tomorrow?”

Li Chongge’s hand paused slightly, as if not understanding. “Why can’t I go on a business trip?”

“No, it’s just that ten days feels a bit long. Director Jiang isn’t familiar with the resort project either, so it won’t be very convenient to coordinate.”

Li Chongge put down the bowl and looked at Qin Yuanging.

“Ten days isn’t long… compared to two years.”

Qin Yuanging was stunned, losing all qualifications to bargain.

“I’ll come back as soon as possible, maybe I can shorten the time a bit.”

Li Chongge could never bring himself to be cruel to Qin Yuanging.

“Then can you stay tonight… and take care of me?”

Li Chongge pulled out a dining chair, signaling Qin Yuanging to sit down and eat.

“If you could say less nonsense, maybe I could.”

Qin Yuanging obediently shut his mouth, even eating two bowls of rice to prove that he was really hungry.

After quickly washing up again, Qin Yuanging got his wish and lay down next to Li Chongge.

    “Li Chongge, good night.”

    “Good night.”
