Oh My Hero – Episode 35

    35. The S-grades I Ended Up Raising (16)

Woojin was an even kinder student than I had expected.

He listened diligently to what I taught, faithfully did the homework I assigned, and eagerly answered the review questions I verbally posed during meals.

Actually, I had been subtly worried that Woojin, whom I had seen run off somewhere a few times, both at the Medical Center and the other day, might escape to the restroom during today’s lesson and not come back.

‘Plus, he seems to have a tendency to ignore what people say.’

So, I was thoroughly prepared before teaching Woojin.

I applied for and received Woojin’s GPS access last night, and I diligently prepared lesson materials to make it easy to review today’s lesson even if Woojin didn’t pay full attention.

In fact, Woojin should have received basic education separately in a lecture hall, but I couldn’t spare the time, so I had no choice but to squeeze it into my schedule and teach him directly.

Of course, that was something I had already discussed with Director Kim, so there was no problem.

The only thing to worry about was whether Woojin would pass the basic education test in three days.

This test, taken only five days after becoming an Association member and receiving basic education, only has a grade but not a pass/fail status, but long-time Association members all know the truth. The score on this test determines how you will be treated during the three-month intensive training that follows.

Usually, scoring over 60 points meant you were classified as an ordinary Association member and could have a smooth training period, so we called that score the passing score.

Conversely, not scoring over 60 points meant you were considered an uncooperative Association member.

Woojin was already in Director Kim’s bad graces, so if he failed to pass, the situation would become even more difficult.

‘I can’t stand to see Woojin go through such a hard time.’

Whatever happens, he has to avoid getting on Director Kim’s bad side.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to give Woojin.

At most, I could only spare time during my original “High-Risk Esper” class.

Still, I tried my best to teach him in a short amount of time, but judging from the results of the pop quiz, it wasn’t enough for Woojin.

    ‘Well, that can happen.’

Even if he doesn’t get all the knowledge during the lesson, he can just fill it in other ways.

    With homework and verbal quizzes.

I had a busy schedule after lunch, so I took Woojin and Cha Wooreen back to their room and came out again.

I wanted to check if Woojin was doing his homework well, but I had to head to the Central Center.

I needed to check on the status of the field mission applications for my class, which would be happening in about a week.

The mission was appropriate, not too difficult, and low in danger, a hooligan patrol mission, but the team ratio wasn’t good, so it hadn’t been approved yet.

At least one Healing-type or Guide needed to be on the field mission team, so I had submitted a dispatch request to the Guide Bureau.

They’ll send me a notification if I wait, but it’s easier to go in person and see how things are going.

As soon as I entered the Central Center, I headed straight for the main counter in front.

Luckily, today’s main administrative employee was Jo Seunghwan.

“Oh, you’re here? The application went to the Guide Bureau, but it’ll take a while. It’s hooligan season, so a lot of people are going out.”

“I said it’s okay even if they’re low-grade, but it’s taking long? I need to get matched within this week.”

“You put the condition that they have to be experienced in the field. But since you’re not picky about the grade, you’ll get a call within this week. It’s annoying, so stop coming to find me.”

I said goodbye to Seunghwan, who gestured for me to leave, seemingly annoyed, and moved on.

It’s convenient because Seunghwan knows me and gives me the information I want quickly.

Seunghwan said I’d get a call within this week, so I achieved my initial goal.

Now, all that’s left is to do my personal preparations for next week’s field mission.

Even though I’m not working as an official team, I have to act as the team leader on this mission, so there’s more to prepare than usual.

I have to retake the life-saving and first aid training courses I used to take, and I have to check and choose the equipment I’ll receive. And I can’t neglect my personal training while going out in the field.

I diligently moved, thinking about the things I had to do today.

“Whew, that was hectic. Now I have to go see Woojin.”

It was late evening before my schedule was over.

I ordered dinner to go from the cafeteria and returned to my room.

‘I need to check if Woojin has done his homework and review, so the room will be more comfortable than the cafeteria.’

When I entered the room, Woojin had laid Cha Wooreen down on the bed and put her to sleep.

Woojin turned to look at me, slightly surprised by the sound of the door opening.

The look of a frightened rabbit disappeared as soon as he saw me.

A gentle smile, like a spring breeze, spread across Woojin’s face, as elegant as an ink painting drawn by a master.

The spring breeze blown by Woojin’s smile blew straight to me and settled in my heart.

    *

Woojin must have been shocked by his score on the first day’s pop quiz because he started taking notes and listening diligently to the lessons from the second day.

Perhaps because of that, his score on the pop quiz improved from the first day, but it still wasn’t a score he could be satisfied with.

I had no choice but to keep giving him homework. It broke my heart that Woojin’s arm was hurting because of the homework, but it couldn’t be helped for Woojin’s future. He has to do what he has to do. I can just massage his arm tonight like I did last night. The pain is only temporary.

Like yesterday, another hectic day passed by in a flash, and Woojin’s test day arrived.

I took Woojin to the test center and went to do my work, holding Cha Wooreen in my arms.

I had to get the certificate for the first aid training I had taken and check the equipment I would be using next week, so I had a lot to do in many ways.

I had to finish quickly and pick up Woojin after the test.

So, I can’t consider Cha Wooreen’s walking speed.

Of course, Cha Wooreen didn’t know any of this and was just cheering and enjoying the fact that I was holding her and running at a fast pace.

I quickly ran into the Central Center, got the certificate, checked the progress of the mission, and was about to move to the equipment rental office.

That’s when the Smartwatch on my wrist rang.

It was a call from Woojin.

Woojin told me on the phone that the test was so easy that he was able to solve all the problems in less than 10 minutes.

So, he submitted the test paper right away.

As expected, Woojin is also smart.

As soon as I received the call, I readjusted Cha Wooreen and ran to Woojin.

I ran hard to the test site so that Woojin would wait a little less, and I saw Woojin leaning against the wall in the hallway.

I called out to Woojin happily with Cha Wooreen, who was calling for her brother loudly in my arms.

Woojin, who had been looking at the floor, heard our voices and looked up.

His winter lake-like eyes reflected me and Cha Wooreen. A clear smile bloomed on Woojin’s face, which was as pure and serene as freshly fallen white snow.

I was momentarily mesmerized by Woojin’s beautiful face before quickly returning to reality.

Because Cha Wooreen was trying to cross over and hug Woojin.

I put Cha Wooreen down for Woojin, who still couldn’t hold Cha Wooreen.

Cha Wooreen was annoyed and stepped on my foot and kicked my shin, but that wasn’t important at all.

I asked Woojin the important question.

“Did you do well on the test? It’s a one-hour test, but you came out quickly. Wasn’t it difficult?”

    “Yes…”

“All your hard work has come to a good end~ Congratulations. But what was your score?”

    “……”

When the basic education test is completed and submitted, the test taker submits his or her test paper to the scoring machine.

When the test paper is put into the scoring machine, the scoring results are available in 10 seconds at the latest, and the score is registered with the Association.

Since the scored test paper is also returned to the test taker, there is no way to not know the test results.

Woojin had studied hard during that time, and the voice he had on the phone earlier didn’t sound regretful, so he must have done well.

But Woojin looked at me and frowned slightly.

‘Why is he doing that? Could it be that the test results are bad?’

I looked at Woojin and worried, but what Woojin, who had a frown on his face, handed me was a 100-point test paper.

‘As expected, our Woojin is smart and perfect. To solve a one-hour test with 100 points in 10 minutes.’

At this rate, I can make up for the fact that Director Kim was displeased with Woojin’s attitude.

We can’t just let a day like this go by.

It’s the weekend, so why don’t I take Woojin out to play?

I can just check the equipment hard from tomorrow morning. As for the certificate, I can just get it unmanned at night after playing.

I patted Woojin, who was pouting, and repeatedly told him that he had worked hard and congratulated him.

Woojin grumbled that I had taught him too much compared to the difficulty of the problem, but it doesn’t matter since the best result came out. And Woojin quickly cheered up at my words that Woojin was smart so the test was easy.

We were happily thinking about what to do outside.

Come to think of it, around this time of year, they put a lot of red ribbons and colorful bells on them for decoration, so it would be fun to just look around the streets.

Woojin was talking about whether they celebrate Christmas here when someone grabbed my hand.

    “!!”

When I checked the face, it was Park Haemi. She came to make me work.

Park Haemi teleported me right away, as always, with her Esper teleportation ability.
