Chapter Index

    “Don’t run! Hold your ground!”

Samuel desperately shouted, trying to rally the fleeing soldiers. But no matter how hoarse his voice became, no one answered his cries.

Even if they didn’t know what had happened up ahead, the loud noise was enough to shatter their will to fight.

That shocking sound was the sound of demons possessing their allied soldiers.

For those who were simple farmers with only naive faith, the mere thought of demons made their legs tremble.

At the first explosion, they were only suspicious, but the successive explosions left them no choice but to cower in fear.

“It’s a demon!” one of them shouted as he ran away. And, like an avalanche, the followers of the Bawa Roma began to flee, each trying to get away first.

No one listened to Samuel’s voice.

    Samuel looked forward with frustration.

He saw the vanguard of his allies collapsing, and enemy soldiers attacking their fleeing comrades in a panic. The enemy had begun their pursuit.

Now that it had come to this, the outcome of the battle was decided.

There was nothing Samuel could do about it.

The same was true for Waomou, who called himself king and claimed to possess divine power.

Group psychology. The crowd was in a panic and only thinking about fleeing, with no strategy whatsoever.

It was clear that trying to stop them would only result in being knocked down and trampled.

The king’s miraculous power was only effective on those who listened quietly.

It had no effect on those who were frantic and confused like this.

The crowd was now an uncontrollable behemoth.

A powerful elephant, enraged and only thinking of crushing anything that stood in its path.

That was what the crowd was now. Blind.

Samuel was of noble birth. He had no military experience, but he had been trained in the art of combat since he was a child.

Among the things he was often told was, “It’s more difficult to retreat than to attack.”

He had been taught that the greatest losses in war occurred during retreats.

That’s why he felt that now was the most difficult time. How to escape with the least amount of damage was difficult.

In this chaotic state, even reorganizing the ranks was difficult.

The soldiers were all men who had never received regular training.

Even during ordinary marches, they never considered forming ranks.

The soldiers were simply running around aimlessly, and there was no sign of anyone standing up to the enemy soldiers.

It was only a matter of time before the soldiers, still in a state of chaos, would reach this place where His Majesty was.

Remaining in the enemy’s southern territory meant certain death. In the south, where there were no residents to provide assistance, the chances of survival were close to zero.

They had to disengage from the battle as soon as possible. Fortunately, the leader was near the rear of the army.

If they escaped now, they could pass through the southern hills and enter the central plains.

There, there would be several escape routes, and they should be able to get the king away from the enemy. They could even flee abroad if necessary.

In any case, he felt that now was the time to prioritize the king’s safety.

“Your Majesty, I believe it is time to retreat.”

    “Very well.”

The decision was made to retreat the Bawa Roma army.

But, after all, the Bawa Roma army was nothing more than a group of amateurs. They had not clearly decided who would secure the route ahead, who would delay the attack from the pursuing force, or, above all, who would protect the king.

Going down the Mulan River by boat would be the easiest way, but it was safe to say that this route was the one the enemy was most wary of and could not be used.

If that were the case, they would have no choice but to pass through the hills as quickly as possible, either on horseback or on foot.

The roads in the narrow hills were narrow and had steep cliffs in places.

It would be difficult to pass through those areas in a carriage without slowing down.

But if they didn’t get out of the cliff area quickly, they would not only be caught up in the chaos, but also be hunted down as remnants of the defeated army.

Samuel guarded Waomou’s carriage, constantly looking behind him.

But an unexpected ambush awaited them here.

The armies of the Midland and Gregg families were lying in wait.

The two dukes had each sent scouts to the area around the Bawa Roma army.

Duke Gregg, who had taken up a position in the area where the Bawa Roma army would enter the southern hills from the central plains, heard about the battle situation from his scouts.

“It is not clear what the cause was, but a large cloud of dust arose within the Bawa Roma army, and soldiers were being struck down one after another. It was something unknown that seemed to use magic.

The sound was tremendous, louder than thunder.

Furthermore, shocks occurred one after another, and Bawa Roma soldiers were being blown away. Among the things I saw, one soldier on horseback was blown away and disappeared with the shock.

As a result, the Bawa Roma army was in complete disarray and is now retreating through the hills.”

“Hahaha. As expected of Toma. I don’t know what he’s up to, but he must have done something incredible.”

Duke Elliot Gregg couldn’t help but laugh.

“If those Bawa Roma thugs enter my territory, I will crush them all at once,” he had said before.

That’s why he had been meticulous in analyzing the enemy’s strength. In fact, he had been constantly thinking about where to set up camp and build a fortress in his territory to defeat the Bawa Roma army.

He was so disappointed when he learned that the Bawa Roma army had advanced its forces to the south instead of the west, where Elliot was waiting.

Now, it was his role to strike the Bawa Roma army from behind.

Elliot waited for the Bawa Roma army with a face that made him want to lick his lips.
