    Chapter 77: Tattling

    Chapter 77: Tattling

The city was illuminated by the resplendent lights, and along the road from the airport to the city center, rows of amber streetlights stood guard on either side, casting a bright glow.

The dim light flickered intermittently, and within the spacious and comfortable sports car, only the gentle murmur of the man in the passenger seat could be heard.

He Zhou kept his eyes fixed on the road ahead, steering steadily according to the voice navigation, his blue hair taking on a light gray hue in the dim lighting.

He pretended to be an ordinary little driver.

But with a shift of his eyes, he perked up his ears, openly and earnestly eavesdropping, outwardly calm but inwardly screaming.

    Is that Brother Yi?

    That’s my Brother Yi!

Is Cheng Yi this gentle and affectionate person?

He Zhou was expressionless, feeling like he was hallucinating.

Half an hour later, the sleek sports car pulled into an upscale residential complex and came to a smooth stop in the underground parking garage.

Cheng Yi was the first to get out of the car.

The video call had ended long ago. He took his phone and walked to the elevator entrance, pressing the button. With a slight curve to his back, his dark eyes gazed casually ahead.

He Zhou wore a conflicted expression and hesitated before walking to his side, standing with his feet apart in a cocky stance.

With his arms crossed, he casually bumped Cheng Yi’s arm with his shoulder, asking curiously, “Brother Yi, are you and that male streamer Mu something or other together?”

The person on the other end of the phone sounded unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar. Plus, with how his brother was acting, he immediately guessed who it was.

After all, this person had made an appearance in his circle of friends.

He even snagged a few big red envelopes in the group that day.

When the elevator arrived, Cheng Yi shed his lazy demeanor and strode inside. After pressing the floor button, he stood in the center of the elevator. Though he hadn’t seen him in months, he hadn’t changed much, but He Zhou felt like something about him was different.

    It seemed… he looked gentler.

The sharp coldness had faded, and his sharp edges had been smoothed down, making him less abrasive.

He Zhou entered the elevator and stood next to Cheng Yi. The elevator doors slowly closed and began to ascend.

After rushing around for most of the day, fatigue was evident in Cheng Yi’s dark eyes. He seemed languid and not very interested, but his gaze brightened slightly when he looked at He Zhou.

He nodded, a smile playing on his lips, not minding being open, “Yes, we’re together.”

Hearing this, He Zhou wore an ‘I knew it’ expression.

He knew Brother Yi liked that streamer. He just wouldn’t admit it before. Now that he’s come to his senses, he’s gone and snatched him up.

As expected, he had to be Brother Yi.

He Zhou looked very proud, his eyes crinkling into a smile.

He didn’t know what he was so proud of, but he just wanted to be proud.

Suddenly, He Zhou asked curiously, “Hey, Brother, where have you been these last few months? Some newly developed farm? Where did you go after that? You didn’t even invite us. With you not in City S, Old Lin and I were bored to death.”

He was clearly a little resentful that Cheng Yi had gone out to play without him.

Cheng Yi found it amusing, shooting him a cool look, scoffing, “You bored? I think you’ve been running wild with no one to keep you in check.”

“Losing a race is just losing a race. It’s only five million. You were unhappy and got into a fight.”

    “What, can’t afford to lose?”

Cheng Yi’s voice was cold, yet it carried a pressing intensity.

He Zhou wasn’t stupid enough to admit it, lowering his head and saying aggrievedly, “Brother, you don’t know, that idiot Pei used dirty tricks. It was all a conspiracy. He saw you weren’t around and deliberately provoked us into taking the bet.”

With those words, he shifted all the blame away.

    Were they at fault?

    They weren’t.

He furiously explained the cause of the matter, “The venue was on his side, and the race was set up quickly. Our mechanic couldn’t come that day, so we had to use his guy. We thought he’d be smart enough not to leave such obvious evidence, but that kid didn’t even try to hide his dirty tricks.”

“Luckily, Mu Feng only suffered minor injuries. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been as simple as beating him up. We would have had to send him to the emergency room.”

He Zhou got heated just talking about it, his still-youthful face full of anger, spitting out his saliva, and spitting, “That Pei is just a brainless idiot.”

He acted all high and mighty, but he was actually just pathetic. The people around him were all sycophants who knew how to flatter and twist words to get him to do whatever they wanted.

They weren’t in the same social circle, and He Zhou was just watching the drama unfold.

But he didn’t expect that this guy always liked to cross them, constantly trying to provoke them and get their attention. He especially liked to target Cheng Yi. When Cheng Yi ignored him, he went crazy and turned his attention to He Zhou and the others, acting like a mad dog biting anyone in sight.

Cheng Yi hadn’t shown his face in City S for a long time, so he probably hadn’t been ridiculed in a while. Ignoring the proper procedures, he directly came to He Zhou and started barking.

Then an accident occurred during the race.

    Enough is enough.

With all the pent-up resentment, they started cursing at each other, and the two sides started fighting.

By the time they got back to the apartment, He Zhou was thirsty from all the ranting. Without ceremony, he went straight to the water dispenser to get a drink.

The apartment had already been cleaned and tidied up by the housekeeper, and everything had been replaced with new items.

Cheng Yi walked to the wide sofa and sat down, leaning lazily against the back, crossing his legs, his eyelids half-closed, and playing with his phone casually.

He Zhou walked over with the water cups, handing one to Cheng Yi. After seeing him take it, he sat down as well.

“Brother, why aren’t you saying anything?”

The slow-witted He Zhou finally noticed something was wrong and asked directly, feeling a bit strange.

Cheng Yi raised his eyebrows, looking at his idiotic brother, feeling utterly helpless.

He smiled gently, his voice low and soft, “Knowing he’s an idiot, you still let him take advantage of you.”

His eyes were indifferent, as if they could kill, and he shrugged, saying flatly, “Stupid.”

He Zhou shuddered, putting down his cup, lowering his head, sitting up straight, afraid to move, like a well-behaved student who had made a mistake.

Brother Yi looked too scary when he was angry. He was terrified.

He was submissive, but at ease.

Cheng Yi didn’t bother to scold him, changing the subject, “How’s Mu Feng’s injury?”

Stealing several glances at his face, confirming that Cheng Yi didn’t seem too angry, He Zhou finally relaxed.

Recalling the doctor’s diagnosis, the anger that had been scattered by his fear returned.

“Besides that one spot the mechanic didn’t check, the car’s configuration was top-notch. He only suffered some cuts from the glass shards, but the doctor said he might have some psychological trauma.”

Psychological trauma was much harder to heal than physical wounds.

He Zhou gnashed his teeth, regretting that he had agreed to the race.

Cheng Yi’s dark eyes dimmed, and after a moment of silence, he said, “Tomorrow night, seven o’clock.”

“Huh?” He Zhou looked at him, puzzled.

He uncharacteristically explained, “An An goes to bed early, and I have to come back early to call him.”

He Zhou blinked, his blue hair ruffled, even more confused.

Cheng Yi sighed softly, his eyes dark and cold, his face indifferent, saying softly:

“Tell that mad dog to be on time.”

He Zhou’s eyes lit up, “Okay!”
