    Chapter 72: Conversation

    Chapter 72 Conversation

After the funeral, the courtyard became spacious, the lively atmosphere disappeared, and the traces of people coming and going slowly vanished, and the village suddenly returned to its former tranquility.

Grandma fell ill after everything was over, purely from being overly saddened these past few days, her mind and spirit exhausted, and her body worn out. She lay in bed taking medicine and recuperating for several days before gradually getting better.

The weather today was very gloomy, the mountaintops were covered in white, shrouded in a large expanse of mist, and thick, piled-up clouds prevented even a little warm sunlight from penetrating through.

The enclosure below was already completely empty.

Cheng Yi moved a small stool and sat in the courtyard, his slender, straight legs bent uncomfortably, a position that looked very awkward.

The phone in his hand suddenly lit up, and message notification sounds followed one after another, ringing several times in a row.

Cheng Yi ignored the sounds, his dark, deep eyes staring at the empty space in front of him, his gaze dull, as if he was thinking about something, but the sudden furrowing of his brow suggested that the content of his thoughts was somewhat difficult for him.

A series of steady footsteps came from the open door behind him, and a person walked out, wearing a black coat with an inconspicuous black belt tied around his waist, accentuating his slim waist and long legs, and highlighting his excellent figure.

The faint footsteps were still noticed by the person who was contemplating something.

Cheng Yi slightly turned his head and immediately met Shen Chang’an’s calm, gentle gaze.

Seeing him look over, Shen Chang’an walked forward without hesitation. He stood upright, his face calm, his eyes gently flowing, but as his gaze looked down from above, a sense of oppression was still faintly revealed.

“What are you doing here?” He asked softly.

Cheng Yi looked up at him, and when he met Shen Chang’an’s peaceful eyes, his dark eyes flickered slightly, and he took the lead in looking away.

He lowered his eyes slightly, his curled and thick long eyelashes covering the emotions in his eyes, and said in a low voice, very directly, “I was a bit bored, so I’m sitting here passing the time.”

He picked up the empty small stool beside him, placed it in front of Shen Chang’an, helped him straighten it out, and then looked up at him and asked, “Is Grandma asleep?”

It was now two o’clock in the afternoon, and Grandma had been sleeping a lot these days due to her illness, as if she was trying to make up for the sleep she had missed before.

The two stools were very close together, and after Shen Chang’an brushed against his clothes and sat down beside him, their arms were touching and their knees were touching.

Shen Chang’an looked at the front somewhat absentmindedly and nodded in response, “She’s asleep.”

As he said this, he leaned his body and rested his head affectionately on Cheng Yi’s shoulder. Cheng Yi subconsciously straightened his back, reached out, put his arm around his shoulder, and tried to make him lean more comfortably.

Looking at this smooth and coherent set of movements, it had become a conditioned reflex. One didn’t know how many times the two of them had done this in private.

The familiar scent was in the air, and Shen Chang’an didn’t know how many times he had seen the scenery in front of the courtyard, but the natural scenery changed with time and years, and his eyes were bright, as if he could never get tired of it.

    “Your phone keeps ringing.”

Shen Chang’an didn’t turn his head, his gaze casually looking at the front, and his tone was lazy as he kindly reminded him.

Cheng Yi looked down at the phone that was lit up and constantly popping up messages, and his face was faintly dark.

Hurry, hurry, hurry, what’s the rush?

He was a little speechless in his heart, directly turned on silent mode, turned off the screen, and casually put the phone back in his pocket.

He stretched out his free hand to the side, forcefully and without allowing refusal intertwined his fingers with Shen Chang’an’s.

He turned his face, lowered his head, rested his forehead on the top of Shen Chang’an’s head, and gently rubbed against his soft hair, pouting his lips and complaining in a low voice.

“Mu An, I don’t want to go back.”

It was approaching the end of December, and City S was starting to urge him to go back. Not only had his family called, but also his close group of friends.

As the end of the year approached, many gatherings of all kinds of people emerged. Although he found these boring social events annoying, as a member of the Cheng family, he still needed to attend some major banquets for the sake of relationships and interactions.

And his group of playful brothers were even more so. Having not seen him for several months, He Zhou and Lin Zhihao were about to blow up his phone.

They immediately asked him if he was so happy here that he had spent all his money and didn’t have enough money to book a ticket back, and then said very brotherly that they would help him buy a ticket as long as he went back earlier.

Cheng Yi really wanted to press their heads onto his bank balance and let them take a good look.

Did they think he was like them?

    A spendthrift?

He was now a small investor who could rely on himself to make money, okay?

Time was dragged on and on, and it was fine in the beginning, but now it was becoming increasingly difficult to refuse.

Even Cheng Fu, who was almost swamped with work, took the time to specifically call him, telling him not to go crazy playing and neglect his family, and to go back earlier to attend the year-end family gathering.

Cheng Yi was helpless and had to assure them that he would definitely show up on the day of the gathering, which finally resolved the almost explosive Cheng Fu.

Shen Chang’an lowered his eyes slightly, making it difficult to see the emotions in his eyes. After a moment of silence, he said faintly, “You have indeed stayed here for a long time, so you should go back sooner.”

The hand that was playing with his fingers paused, and Shen Chang’an stared blankly, his lips unconsciously pursing tightly.

The person next to him sat up straight. Cheng Yi turned sideways, reached out and cupped Shen Chang’an’s face in his hands, his dark eyes scrutinizing his expression, and his low voice seemed a little disbelieving as the volume suddenly increased, “You want me to leave?”

The flesh on his cheeks bulged slightly under the somewhat forceful pressure of his fingertips, and Shen Chang’an’s fair skin instantly turned a shade of red. He blinked, opened his mouth, and hesitated.

His cold temperament was disrupted, and looking at him being forced to act cute, Cheng Yi coughed lightly and withdrew his hands a little awkwardly.

His heart was being overwhelmed by the cuteness, but the deep eyes on his face were still fixed on Shen Chang’an’s eyes, not allowing him to miss any emotion in his eyes.

Shen Chang’an’s skin was fair, and the red marks on his face from just now hadn’t faded at all, spreading out in a large area, with red and white reflecting each other, creating a shy appearance.

Shyness ruined the coldness, adding a touch of warmth and gentleness, but only his eyes were calm and indifferent.

He said calmly, “Cheng Yi, you always have to go back.”

    Sooner or later.

This was a fact that they both knew.

Shen Chang’an’s eyelids drooped, and his slender, thick eyelashes curled up, casting a shadow over his eyelids, barely concealing the dark emotions in his eyes.

Of course he couldn’t bear Cheng Yi to leave.

He could count the people he cared about in this world on his fingers, and there were only three.

Grandpa and Grandma had relied on and supported each other for most of their lives, and neither could live without the other. They were Shen Chang’an’s most important family members.

And Cheng Yi was the bright light that had suddenly illuminated his life.

After Grandpa left, he no longer had the sun.

The moon also seemed to be quietly setting in the west.

In the silent and long night, if there was no longer this light, how would he get through it…

But he also knew that as a rich young master, Cheng Yi had his own extravagant and decadent life, how could a wild and flamboyant youth revolve around a boring and dull person like him?

Had Cheng Yi really not felt any boredom during these two months of boring life?

A trace of irritability surfaced in Shen Chang’an’s heart, and he restrained himself, taking the thought back and not daring to dwell on it.
